About The Event

The COVID-19 measures have left the Rare Soul scene littered with cancelled events and the faithful following home alone at the weekends; so the Bury Town Hall team have decided to launch a ‘virtual’ all-nighter. The show will be broadcast over internet radio every Saturday while we’re under lockdown from 20:00 until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The format will be just like a real event with a selection of DJs from previous and upcoming all-nighters at Bury Town Hall selecting their spots, carefully in order, from actual records they own to keep it real.

...and we also hope to be posting links for use with iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, Real Player & Quick Time in the near future.
We hope you enjoy the show and it goes some way to filling the void and lifting your spirits

A definite must attend event,the feedback so far from people who may have never been to Bury,is phenomenal!! I think we are learning to adapt in the current climate and there are some positives coming out of the dark times. The music lives on!! We must also give thanks to Baz and Jordan for the promotion of the virtual events as well as Simon's wizardry with the production of the event,a proper team effort!! 

Next week's niter already in the making and the addition of the request slots at the start,has added another dimension,as this event grows and grows.I'm sure Simon will update this week so we can add people's selections and add to the unique flavour.Look forward to the mix cloud from last week,it was another special event!!

when i hear a tune for the first time i cant always tell you instantly if i rate it as a soul record  i would want to dance to or to listen to  i might need a few listens to get it !

A lot of people are the same on that score, and is why it can takes years to 'break' a tune to new ears - At least you listen and enjoy.  Getting the balance right is key, and my opinion is that these shows get that balance of known tunes and not so known tunes pretty spot on.

Your gonna love this.  Lou asked me was I going to start buying records again properly after my return set on Saturday night. . Did she mean I haven't been buying proper one,s or did she mean more expensive ones.

Sometimes a good DJ  will persevere with something and you cant hear it    a great example of this would be Gangster Boy  Wonda Mcdaniels     heard this played out  and just didnt get it  but after 6 or 7 plays  it ouses soul  and the lights are on ,these Djs are the groundbreakers      by the way Steve Smith i ve always found deception and fraud are the best combination for a strong marriage !          Len i woke up wandering what Nina was making you for tea ,i need to go back to work

He he.  Yes I tend to mention my family quite a lot in my posts (Nina being a 'key figure' in there somewhere) To build a picture you understand :D

Well Nina still hasn't pretended to sew my Virtual Bury patch on my jacket as yet, I hope she'll oblige in due course.  'FYI' - We had jacket potatoes, cheese coleslaw, and ham (on the side) for tea last night. Ref eating, I'm past the stage of 'squirreling', I now think I'm 'comfort eating' during the times when this show isn't on, so that's a lot of food!

I woke up this morning as if it was just another normal day to get ready for work, then of course I remembered - It's all messed up!......I texted a close friend of the family last night, just to check in with him and I'm so glad I did - Rather than texting, he rang straight away, and was on the phone to us for nearly two hours. He lives in a one bedroom flat on the 9th floor of a block of flats near the center of Birmingham, and he can't leave his flat because he has asthma - I will be passing him on the details of next week's show.

This show really is good for people.

Stuart Raith put this up    sort of sums things up .Everyone has a story that in isolation is staggering ,its like were in a film     hope you and yours Len have a fantastic  day x    im no chef but today im going to make Chicken Mixed Peppers Brocoli with melted cheese on in a bread stick   for me my missis Lisa and the 6 kids the triplets are behaving ok so far !  Simon you and the Bury team are wonderful people

Don't have to spend the earth mate just a great ear and keep on looking. Buy what you love mate as sataurday night showed you certainly have one. 👍 But it means Lou agrees you had a good enough rest now pull your finger out 😂🤣😂. Oh and if you could Kickstart the other heaven help us!!!!!

'VIRTUAL SUGGESTION BOX'

My suggestion - Simon, it may be an idea to lock each thread weekly on say the Wednesday, and post the link up to the next week's thread as you're closing post.  So we then all 'flip' to next week's build up / and 'early doors requests' (Also giving you time to sort that request spot)
