Pete Burton
Our first trip up to Thorne and Claire and I had to drive up through a monsoon to get there but it was well worth the effort, quality music and great people making for easily the best night we've had for a while. Hope Cat and Rich aren't still walking the streets of Thorne searching for the kebab house Thanks for the trade Flanny and thanks for the laughs Woody Pete Link to comment

Theresa
Just a quickie (story of my life!) to say that the South London Massive spent a cracking brief interlude at Thorne last night, before heading off to Radcliffe. Happy birthdays to the lovely Karen & Tracy, thanks to Flanny for the industrial sized round of Slippery Nipples, foul of course but necessary to sustain us throughout Justin's very random driving across to Madchester. Myself & Dru had a lovely squeeze from Arthur (I'm sure we're both pregnant now) and it was fab to see lots of loud and proud crumpet out in East Yorks. Frank Giacobbe particularly is a proper handful isn't he? Phwoaar Lots of laughter throughout our visit. Caught Marco & Arthur's sets, quality throughout. Hope it won't be quite such a long interval before we sojourn in Thorne once again. Theresa x Link to comment

Rbman
Well done Karen (I don't choose the talent) and Maria for a splendid alldayer. Always made so welcome. Lovely meal in the company of Maria & Arthur, Mr Barnfather, Ady Pountain and his friends. Had a good laugh and a few shorts with Flanny (Mr SlipperyNipple), Taffy, Ady, and Arthur but had a hangover in the morning. Thanks to Geoff Green for his good company there and back and booking the B&B. Good to meet Cunnie for the first time. Link to comment
Geoff
Reading Rbman's post has spurred me into action. I have to reiterate all he said, great time, good friends and excellent music from all the DJs. Thanks to Martin for driving and his company, sorry there wasn't any R&B on the tapes I bought along for the car, will do better next time, lol. Seriously though, good of you to drive and we did have a laugh didn't we? Good job I could find our way back to the Thorne Central Guest House otherwise we might still be wandering around. Memo to myself: don't mix wine and spirits, not a good idea, lucky no hangover. Boomerang plays the right mix of music for me, long may it continue. Link to comment

Maria O
Had some time to use my brain again here at work (and I've seen the photos ) so I've not much to add to the earlier thanks I'd rather everyone else gave us their feedback anyway - and besides, it was Karen's day - thanks for the cakes etc. Also celebrated the Box's 40th wedding anniversary coming up this month, Tracy's birthday, Sam's birthday ...and the good offerings of nice social company. Not forgetting a big thanks to our guest DJs, especially Marco - our Boomerang virgin. I'm hoping he posts up a playlist soon. As for mine, it's a bit of the usual mix-up of soul from me. Was nice to get some requests ...because it means that I don't have to think so much! 1ST SET (5:15pm-6:30pm) Norma and the Heartaches - "Nice and Slow" (Vocal) (Joy Ride) The Geminis - Can't Let You Go (RCA) The Jades - L-O-V-E I Love You (Imperial) Jean Shy - "We've Got A Good Thing Going" (Fox Car) The Notations - A New Day (Twinight) Ronnie West - Lil' Woman (Goins) James Phelps - The Look On Your Face (Apache) Tan Geers - Let My Heart And Soul Be Free (Okeh) Minnie Jones and the Minuettes - Shadow Of A Memory (Sugar) Cookie Scott & the Chevelles - I Don't Care (What The People Say) (Orr) The Belles - Don't Pretend (Mirwood) Marshall, Donovan, Broomfield - Since I Found My Baby (Augusta) Second Re$surrection - You Done Let Daylight Catch You (Stanson) Ujima - I'm Not Ready (Epic) Bits & Pieces - You Should Have Told Me (Paramount) Primbrock Skiggs - That Was Yesterday (Pzazz) Sandra Wright - I Come Running Back (Demon LP) Alice Clark - Don't You Care (Mainstream LP) The Main Ingredient - Have You Ever Tried It (RCA LP) Peabo Bryson - Turn The Hands Of Time (Capitol LP) Bessie Banks - Don't You Worry Baby The Best Is Yet To Come (Quality) The Athens Rogues - She Could Love Me (Stop) "Sunny & the Sunliners" - If I Could See You Now (DPR) Towana Barnes - You Don't Mean It (A&M) Althea Spencer - Take Me Baby (AV International) The Hamilton Movement - She's Gone (Look-Out) The Rotations - (Put A Nickel On) D-9 (Frantic) 2ND SET (9pm-10pm) Betty Wilson and The 4 Bars - I'm Yours (Dayco) Shiela Ferguson - "And In Return" (Swan) Terri Bryant - Geni (Verve) Out Of Sights - For The Rest Of My Life (Saru) Marvelous Ray - Whirlpool (Abner) The Districts - One Lover (Just Won't Do) (Nile) Purple Mundi - Stop Hurting Me Baby (Cat) Richard Caiton - I Like To Get Near You (Up Tight) Towana & The Total Destruction - Wear Your Natural, Baby (Romark) Love, Peace & Happiness - Strip Me Naked (RCA) Tommy & the Derby's - Don't Play the Role (Swing) Almeta Lattimore - These Memories (Mainstream) Margie Joseph - I Can't Move No Mountains (Atlantic) Nate Evans - Main Squeeze (Twinight) The Ultimates - Girl I've Been Trying To Tell You (Br-roma) George Hobson - Let It Be Real (Sound City) William Cummings - Make My Love A Hurting Thing (Bang Bang) Brown Bombers & Soul Partners - Wait For Me (Amazing) m ps. Glad to read that nobody seemed to suffer much on numbers with venue clashes. Our venue's management have already asked me about next year's dates and I said that we'd return to the 2nd Saturday in August for 2010 (It was Sam who asked us to make it earlier this year). I normally confirm dates by November for the following year - so those interested in "early bird" Travelodge deals can book well in advance Link to comment
spot
Right then, the once a year superdopa Boomarang Soul Sams early start Birthday bash, beautifully arranged & co-ordinated by Maria & Karen, movers & shakers to the stars, so S**t,Showered & Shaved in readiness for Pauline, Kev & Kennys 5'ish arrival for Pimms on the Terrace. A couple of slurps for the guests & we're off on the first half of our Saturday adventure & to meet Big Paul, whom is our Navigator on the later journey to Radcliffe with Gail & I. Maria's in full swing when we arrive & though the room is sparsely populated at this early hour this is more than made up for by a Large hug & kiss from Karen Burke & her beaming smile that light up not only the room but the entire Street, lovely . The room slowly filled beteen 6 & 9:30pm until there was a good crowd in, amongst that crowd was Lynn Wilson who we've seen twice in the last 35 years, so nice suprise there then, Lynns first visit & she loved the music but she commented on the Tavern way, you know everybody sits tapping their feet & singing along whilst the odd brave person graces the floor, usually Kirsty (If she's there), Paul & Sue from Donny plus Geoff, with the odd straggler thrown in, in this case Gail, I explained to her that this is how it always play out & if she were patient the floor would end up packed, so hopefully she'll be back to sample some more. We had to leave at 11pm as the M62 was closed between Junction 34 & 33 making us divert on the A roads via Ponte but till that point in the proceedings I had not heard one bad tune, infact Kenny & I spent most of the evening like two nodding dogs leaning in saying, "I like this one", I especially enjoyed both Marco's sets, thought they were exceptional & well put together but Maria & Arthur were on top form also, a big Thanks to Arthur for playing Wee for Gail & Bobby Rich for me, hey & I didn't even have to ask, now thats forward thinking . So that was it for us till next time but it was nice to chat & touch bases with RB Man, Geoff, Nicola, Paul & Sue & Pete Widd etc, so top marks again Maria & Karen, till next time . Take care, be safe & remember,"Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise, Birds in the trees seem to twitter Louise", Spot. Link to comment

PS-Soul
Arrived about 7.30pm so we missed the 1st sets from all except Arthur, got to say I only know a handful of tunes from Sam's 1st spot so I reckon that would have been worth the admission on it's own, looks like we missed some nice stuff from Maria's 1st spot as well. Overall we enjoyed the night with a good mix of music including a more up-tempo spot from Marco which were mainly unknown to us although great to hear Eugene Gaspard in his set. Strangely quiet without Kirsty, good thing Karen was on hand to do the honours with the lollies. Great company with Elaine, Russ & Jackie,Cunnie & Shelley and the Derby crew (can't wait to hear about the camping experience)and thanks to Mark for the taxi service. Big thanks to Maria & Karen for putting on yet another great night at the Tavern & thanks for the retro sweets as well (forgot how foul flying saucers tasted ). Had planned to get there at about 4pm but finally managed to stroll in at about 8-30 as family things got in the way & looking at the early spots we missed some great stuff. Good to meet up with some of the usual suspects like Paul & Sue, Elaine, Russ & Jackie, Big Paul etc & also to put a few faces to names on here like Rbman (where was Jocko?). Must thank Arthur for playing Ebony Stones feat Jade - Take You Higher for me (the next one's mine ya hear Arthur) & also thank Sam for playing Jackie Wilson for Shelley, cheers guy's One last message for Arthur, get that Sideshow back in ya sales box fella Already got November pencilled into the diary. Guest marco
Hello Karen and Maria, Just wanted to say thanks for inviting me up to Boomerang and for making me feel so welcome... Sorry it's taken me a while to reply but the laptop's been up the spout. Really enjoyed myself - lots of great people in the place, some of whom I haven't seen for ages. The day started off on a high note in Dysons shed (joined by Trev and Jock O'Connor, Andy couldn't believe his luck, could you darling??) and just got better and better (thanks for the ham sarnies Heather). Good to see Nige Mayfield out again at last, just a pity Sue couldn't have been out too mate! Not to mention Woody, Cheryl, Yan, Pete and Drew up from London, Gillie and Nicola, Dean, Kitch, Byrnie and Julia (you lightweights! expected more staying power from the Notts massive!). Fantastic to see Chuddy looking back to his old self again too. Here's an attempt at a playlist. Guest peter burke
Thank you all who came to Boomerang last week, As a 'warm up' birthday party it was perfect. All DJs played great sets, just look at the above playlists, and I got cards and presents. The special delivery gift from Arthur and Maria of sweeties of yesteryear went down very well with many, and Dean was filling his pockets when he didn't think anyone was looking.! Andy Dyson deserves a special mention for agreeing a special door price at Radcliffe for those with enough stamina to carry on the fun, and reports from friends say it was a blinder. I intend to carry on with the Big Birthday celebrations with Kipper from Shrewsbury at the Lifeline niter 29th August, which is much nearer the date of our 50'ths. BRING IT ON, Love from KAREN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Link to comment
