it was given out about 10 months later....(thats a picture of mine that l sold for £300) to get it you had to promise Russ that you were telling the truth with one hand on a copy of blues and soul tezza

I sold mine to Steve Morgan on the train to the Locarno in early 1979, for £5. That was a lot of money then. It was obtained by our jackie's husband Malc at the casino but he can't remember exactly whenm he always thought it was the first night but seeing as kev didn't dj that night, he's obviously wrong.

there was 500 made 250 for russ and 250 for kev which kev threw his away all 250 of them leaving russ with his 250. thats why this patch is worth 500 plus now

1st anniversary patch 120

tommy hunt patch 150 plus depending on condition

3rd anniversary patch which is a trial patch that was printed and is getting as rare as the kev and russ patch now 80 to 100

Hi Mr Badge :- If you read all of this article you will see that not if any people from the 23rd September 1973 did attend the All-Nighter on that date? also my comments about the incident in October 1973 I need to work out if it was the 2nd or 3rd All-Nighter at the Casino but thats the night of my 1st night at the Casino. In the Real World at the begiuning the numgers were up on the first night but there was still only 500 in the place in comparason to what it was like 1 year on? as so Few badges exist and those that are sold by dealers at £500 have to be shunned and I for one would take it of them and give it to someone who never got one on the 1st night or just keep it, call me old fashoned but I could never understand why someone who did not attend the Casino in 73 would want to own this badge?? it's the samr as bying a fake degree and thinking you have a reel one? If someone gives you the badge that is differant because you will know it's provanance however if you are going to sell it why not offer it to the origanal Casino goers, as to further my Piont the 1st Anaversary badge is worth Jack no matter if you get £1 or £200 for it, as mine is priceless as it has all the memories of the night attached to it, My attitude to this and other aspects of the Soul Scene seem to be lost on some! for example DJing with records that are not origanal or with the exception of people like Adt C Richard S Ian L and others who woork for the music Industry who are allowed to promote records legally, This used to be frowned on and as such should stay at home in your collection, and the use of CDs is a big no NO1 but there of course exceptions to the rule, I have a copy of the 1st All-Nighter Badge and I must state to those who do have an origanal this is a far cheaper way of owning one, As are quite a few replica badges, the Howard Mallet Repro id very well made in my pinion I would love an origanal However, this is also the same for my VAVA bade from 73 that Just faded away by the mid 7ts love to have one of those back but at the prices that you ar quoteing Bollocks, this is not a personal attack on yourself, as your price are in line with my own observations.

True , also they were crap , a rubbish print on a frayed sheet of square cotton .I stuck mine on my record box with Bostick & then had trouble getting it off when it devalued the look of my box !

it all depends what you are doing with them Pete doesn't it. Using them under the pretence you were there or simply collecting. There are 1000's that simply collect medals, there is a couple of stalls on Chesterfield Market on a Thursday that sells stuff like that. I nearly got beat up for wearing one when I was 15, before I'd actually been to Wigan, so yes, the police should come down heavily on them and slap them all in jail in my opinion.

I also collect artifacts and memorabilia that are linked into a certain period of my life, I do believe that I would by even a packet of RIZLAs if had the for HMP-PRISOS & HMB-BORSTALS, NOT FOR SALE TO THE PUBLIC. as collecting is all about our ways of getting comfort & is a self gratification to receive "strokes" Dr Erick Burns coined the word after observation that most people in the western world, are unhappy? we will always greet a cat or a dog with affection freely by a pat or a stroke, but to each other we are suspicious of the dangers of engagement, this is what makes us Human "I think so I am", So our need for warmth over 6t million years has gone from the basic needs of food warmth shelter of hunter gatherers into instead of the big kill to support the extended family with food which is now the preserve of females, we have turned into obsessive collectors of the rare elite, so powerful is the need for the adrenaline hit from the purchase of the dealer we are succeed like a drug addict for the first of more & more blinded by the light of desire, this obsession is very similar to the rush of crack?......many individuals on the rare soul scene have been and become to self centred over the years almost making it's value Authentic as if a badge is worth £500?? and I for one would not deprive anyone of the right of liberty of freedom of choice, or there democratic right to pay whatever for there desire to buy and the right to sell, that was not my point, you can do whatever you want especially in the UK as it is the safest place on earth to live "there ain't gonna be a Sumani in Darby and all my life I called it a tidal wave?? and the other issues of preventing people to listen to a record or buy medals is a Big Red Herring to deflect or overt attention away from the issue I made and stick buy the badge is worth more than money to someone who was there at the time than someone who was not? of course if you went to Wigan Casino at any time why not collect the badges that come from the Club my point was about rarity & purposes of it's significance, but £500 it's this mindset that the elite have! deprives many from hearing so many hundreds of soul classics. Come on Dean Penford I need help-he used to wear a white FRED PERRY with a RED TRIANGLE shaped badge on it with white stitching--remember Dean ? Look out some of your old photos!

This was from early 1973 only ever seen a couple of them in 36 years !!

The early ones I remember were "Russ and Richard" Heart of soul and the much copied standard Red Rose Wigan Casino badge-which there must be Thousands!

Hi Dave love the posts, good recollections and a lot passion and always interesting. Back to post - re the original mallet badge (or dinner plate as we used to call it) remember being at the Mallet when a coach load turned up from the Cats. The Mallet had run out of badges (cost 75p for a very nice embroidered blazer badge ,the original one) and the guys were desperate for one and offering £5 and £10 then! any idea what year the first coach ran? I have got the 3rd Anniversary Badge. Lucky to get in from what I remember, I am sure alot of people spent the night outside.

Hi Rob, I can remember that badge, I don't think I have a pic anywhere but will try have a sort through. Given Chris's artistic tallents he could've made it . Be good to see him to ask him, I think Garry bumps into him occasionally on his freelance education travels. Would be good to see the old bugger, a wealth of knowledge in that family.
