just browsing flea-bay and noticed a few of these singles on there. no shortage in supply, one particular listing has 6 bids already. Its a corking tune in my opinion, raw, pacey and a brilliant delivery what i wanna know is: when did you last hear this record played out and would you play it personally?

So many brilliant memories associated with that tune Ive not heard it played out for a long time , shame really its a cracking tune and its got a good B side aswell

it was obviously a big tune in its day,..and got the recognition it deserved, but personally it seems a tad commercial now, theres definately loads of other stuff that had the odd play back then, that still has,nt been fully appreciated yet , but i still prefer "Come go with me "

but the soul DJs at the time ruined it forever by over playing it.

i played this at the co-op in nuneaton on saturday..

Most weekenders play it on their Sunday evenings, at their end of weekend party.

Personally, anything faster than Pyramid at that stage is too fast

Theres an interesting video recorded interview with Ian Dewhirst on the front of his myspace page which he did in Toronto which covers how Almond and Soft Cell came about the record.Loads of other interesting stuff as well.

Having read this again i can't help but sing and clap to the song. That's how strange Northern soul is, songs we clap to when played.

Think that Soft Cell did a good job in 1981, anyone fond of the Ruth Swann version

It was a 1964 flop when first released, love the track but sadly played far too often that it lost its impact.

Wouldn't it bit great to have heard it for the first time at a massive venue like Wigan, I did not but I can imagine the impact of that drum roll intro followed by that beat that you can not ignore, ace dancer, super record!

It is a testament to Richard Searling who spun it first at Va Va's in Bolton (Got all this from Wikipedia so no insight claims for me).

Sadly it is no longer played and it may have been the first ever "Divvy" record?

Be nice to hear and dance to it, I don't think I have ever danced to it??

its a great record but its how no soulies class n-soul because of the soft cell version!

the only good remake i have heard is imelda may doing it live but then again all her stuff is good live (rock and roll but great energy)

First record I ever heard (circa 1979) that made me realise what this strange 'Northern Soul' music that some guys at school were into actually was.

Two guys in my class turned up at a school disco wearing their bags, vests, etc and got the teacher on the decks to play their Northern records. After telling us we couldn't go on the dance floor while they were 'doing their thing' (ooh, how arrogant!), they then proceeded to do the usual kicks, backdrops, splits etc to these weird and wonderful sounds.

After they had danced to their four or five records they then buggered off - probably to the pub at age 14 - while the rest of us got on down to whatever chart rubbish we were being served up.

Have loved it ever since!
