Bleedin' Hell, Do you REALLY think Webby could stand still for 30 minuteshuh.gif

Hi Webby - how you doing?

The best long version of Walk on By for me is by the Stranglers off the white EP that came free with the Black & White album - awesome bass playing from Jean Jacques Burnell (who is also pretty damned good at karate ph34r.gif ). Vocals by Hugh Cornwell.

I didn't reckon it was them really Webby laugh.gif but I do rate that Stranglers' version - pretty much like the Doors really with a punky edge.

Have you checked Refosoul?

Maybe it was the supermarket manager telling you to get out the shop.

Stu.

Seal did a version. Not bad.

BTW i think D-Train's version is shite.

SoulSupermarket? Ouch - groan - sorry, that was really, really bad yes.gif

Cheers

Don't think it was Seal it was a bit acoustic! yes.gifthumbsup.gif

Average White Band? I can't think of any more male versions. Seal's is fairly minimal.

I used to dj in a "trendy" wine bar in Leeds, in the 80's. A version of walk on by i used to enjoy playing was by Smith & Mighty. Not that common but you should be able to find it Theres a few different mixes some not so good as the others I think i used to play the original it used to go down quite well I really liked it and lent it to another dj from another club Said he'd bring it back the following week I haven't seen it since : (

I have searched for it now and again would like to get it back some day. Having said all this, i doubt if it's the one you heard. If it is, Supermarkets are getting way too errr something not trendy cos it's an old choon ---but something.

The answer to your question is simple .

Go back into the said supermarket today ( the store is open from 6 AM this morning until Midnight tonight ) , go up to the manager's office - Mr. Eddie Byrne - and ask him for the details of the music that was played in the store yesterday .

He might give you a strange look - but I am sure that you will be used to that Phil :D - but I am sure that he will help with the respective information

If you cannot get in personally , ring him on 01 6795422 .

Ok well the only Modernish versions that have slipped past by my player in recent years are Mike Mcdonald; Paul Carrack and Steve Tyrell, all good versions but for me the one is Gloria Gaynors version that I used to spin in the Starlight Romm Morecombe allnighters in the 80's - now theres a TOON!

... You're having a laugh aren't you Matt? D Train's version is fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this is coming from someone who thinks that Dionne Warwick is quite possibly the greatest female singer of the past 50 years.

Those D-Train albums are all fantastic, I can't think of a single bad track on any of them. And most certainly not 'Walk On By'!no.gifno.gifno.gif

Lou Johnson? Superb version. Aretha's is good as well but the original is the greatest.

Alan

Hi Paul,

I've noticed before in other listings versions not being listed, not totally sure how the licensing malarky works, sure someone will tell us.

Can't for the life of me remember the OJays, or some of the others mentioned.

Why are you talking in a funny language?? :lol:laugh.gif

P.S. It's gone now.......No it wasn't me!! :D

I'll have what you've had :D

Just watched DW sing( or should l say mime it) on Pebble Mill and l always thought everything from there was 'Live' :D

Everything on Pebble mill was pre recorded Phil , even down to that weather man on the floating map : that was done three days in advance .......

hell yes!

My fav version by far....

Did you make a return trip to Supervalu and see Eddie Byrne , or ring him Phil ?

My original reply might have appeared TIC , but Supervalu , like other retail outlets, location or premises where music is played and can be heard by the public , have to keep a documented record ( no pun intended ) of what is played as part of the regulations stipulated in their PRS Music Licence

Please visit or give him a bell : the nation is waiting with baited breath and is expecting you to to find out who the mysterious " Walk On By " vocalist is .

Is this thread leading up to a Supemarket themed one ? If so , can we expect contemplatable topics like " What are your three favourite aisles ? "

Remember - the nation is waiting .................... and you never know - you could meet a pretty lass at the bus stop

Supervalu....Aston Quay.... thumbsup.gif

Supervalu...they are part of Musgraves Retail Partners?

I do IT for them - tills that kind of thing.

Why don't you email them and ask them. group@musgrave.ie

Maybe they have in-store radio like the Co-op or it could be a set CD like somebody else said. It may not even be anybody famous-bit like those old Top of the Pops lps in the 70s.

It could be one of them types of tracks you got on 2 quid cds from supermarkets and petrol stations.

. Not sure who did these cds  but they had classic tracks done by different folks..

I thought 2 quid was pushing it with reagards to quality, i thougth 50p was pushing it to be honest....

These type of cd are quite popular among supermarkets i hear..

Phil---my old North Yorks/Co Durham bud---i thinl you,ll find it,s Kevin Coyne on U.K. Virgin and i,ve just had a listen it,s ace!!!!!! ---Queen,s hall downstairs lives on!!!!

T.C.

Try spotify. Lots of versions on there to listen to, if you search for 'Walk on by" Even Gareth Gates!
