Posted February 8, 201114 yr Conversation topic last weekend was the value and rarity of certain records and Mel Britt came up. A mate of mine asked me how many original copies there would be knocking about, not having a clue I thought I'd consult the oracle. I know its an impossible question to answer but what would be your guestimate??
February 8, 201114 yr a lot i would say that it's in every top collector's possesion. and most well known dj,s too , it was in mine when collecting, and now resides with mick h.
February 8, 201114 yr Not that many on Demo and the 3 i have seen for sale had seen better days. On issue its sat in a few collections but as in both copies is hardly ever for sale and rightly commands a £1000 + price tag in top condition I'm looking for a mintish demo by the way Edited February 8, 201114 yr by CheltSoulNights
February 10, 201114 yr Author Any advance on 200 copies then? Thought this might have (not might of) provoked a few more responses from all you knowledgeable collectors out there BTW I know its overplayed
February 10, 201114 yr Must have been a fair few.. There was even a find of quite a few copies in Chicago itself not too long was there? Which I found quite amazing really considring how long its been known etc.
February 10, 201114 yr Had a look on Popsike and see more boots for sale than originals so how many boots were pressed up 1000?
February 11, 201114 yr i'd say lot more than 200 still great choon price is a reflection of demand rather than rarity. DJ
February 11, 201114 yr More like 500 upwards, It's rarity is due to demand rather than copies available. I remember John Anderson at a Whitchurch Alldayer, had more than a few of them, when it first started to get played. Fabulous record though. Rgeards Ricardo.
December 17, 201113 yr As I'm in Baghdad right now, can someone pse remind me how you tell the boots/reissues please. Thx Russ

December 17, 201113 yr The bootlegg has the delta number 100275, which means made in 76 , also the boot has a white outer ring on the label. Edited December 17, 201113 yr by HARRY CROSBY
December 17, 201113 yr Harry is correct! colouring on yellow and blue stripes is different!...the boot is lighter yellow.
December 17, 201113 yr A couple of years ago on Ebay there was a test pressing of Mel Britt But it was an acetate and most of the vinyl covering had come off it was in appalling condition and unplayable but the guy still wanted about £600 for it
December 17, 201113 yr I have a vinyl boot with a machine stamped ZTSC 142593 for "SCRB" and ZTSC 142592 for "LIM" in the run outs, anyone come across this one before, i got it off P Brady in the mid 80s.. Dave f....
December 17, 201113 yr dead easy to tell boots from real if you got em side by side.. real one has the typical ztsc machine stamp anyway dave
December 17, 201113 yr colouring on yellow and blue stripes is different!...the boot is lighter yellow. It also has a fine white ring around the outside of the label Edited December 17, 201113 yr by allnightandy

December 19, 201113 yr Yes thats the bugger , Did you buy it ? or were you selling it ? Neither just took a copy of the scans off ebay.
December 19, 201113 yr Have to ask, did the acetate sell ??? I can't imagine anyone paying anything like that for a wall decoration. Nice to look at though Skeeny

December 19, 201113 yr Don't think anyone would doubt the quality of soul here, the vocal, the strings, even love that label, but it just gets so tidious after 30 odd years, although would still own an original with pride of place if I had one. Aid.
December 20, 201113 yr £60.00 seems about right I know how gutting it is to find something like that an then you see the condition :( I remember when I found a different take to the Four Dynamics - Things That A Lady Ain't Suppose To Do on an acetate as soon as I heard the opening bars (it had a longer instrmental intro and sounded a little faster) I started to get that wonderful feeling you get in the pit of your stomach then the thing turned into an absulute mess you couldn't hear anything but static talk about a sinking feeling
