Don't think All-Dayers were ever as good as All-Nighters.....can't give a definite reason why though....Maybe it wasn't as rebellious to take drugs, dance and lose the plot at 3pm as much as it was to do the same thing at 3am...

But anyway my top 3 (that's what l'm leading to.. yes.gif:D ) are

in 3....Wigan Casino...late 70's

in 2....Sleepless Nights,Dublin...now..

and in 1............

The Ritz.....70's,80's and the rest...

What do you think??

What about Kirby Belars(Painted Lady)a Mr Manship promotion

i did a couple of those . only bus from grantham was like 10am, so i was waiting for doors, stupid early !

Glad somebody else remembered Central Hall Kettering.East Anglian Soul Club was a big thing for us further south.

St. Ives was a special event for me. I had heard how good the allnighters were from the older Norwich lads. I would have been slightly too young at 14 to do the niters (although I expect their were a few similar aged kids who did go) so when the Dayers were announced I was chuffed This would have been 1979, and the original East Anglian soul club was promoting the event. I remember hearing the late Nev Wherrys final set and Soul Sam playing Lester Tiptona adding over the mike that he wasn't meant to play it until a fortnight later! Great Times.

For me Cleethorpes Winter Gardens, followed by the Ritz and a quirky one was the Pile Bar Bradford featuring Record dealer Ivor Allen and his 50 odd tables of record sales boxes thumbup.

Hey Mark, can you remember when the coach broke down and we got back at 6.00am, I had to start work at 7.30 after cycling four miles. Got there and tried to have a kip at lunch time laying flat on the floor boards, this pesky plasterer then tied my shoelaces together while asleep, after 30 minutes got woken by the foreman to resum work only to piss straight back over!

Always enjoyed Birmingham Locarno ,used to listen to both Rare Soul and The Jazz Funk room ,also the 80’s room with Arthur Fenn and Soul Sam.

Central Hall Kettering was great with John Vincent ,Sam ,etc in the mid 70’s .Went to Matlock Bath once when I was seeing a girl from Derby ,that was also good from memory .

Hi Eddie Mark from Coventry here and remember the days of the Locarno in brum - loved the modern played there

Yes Locarno was great

I remember one time with Pat Brady gusting with his upfront tunes.

The Modern room was short lived but very good, even if it felt like you were visiting a lighthouse to get there.

Cheers Paul

Whitchurch was my first All Dayer so it sticks out, but later The Ritz had good vibe with lots of records for sale at that time as many, well some, were switching to Modern and selling their sixties stuff..

The Ritz for me were just exceptional dayers with artists on and a diverse play list from the DJ's. Carousel Ballroom in Longsight were good too but it was always pissing down walking to it from Pic station. Cats Whiskers Burnley had a fabulous dance floor and was the first time I heard Soul Sam play George Kirkby.

Only went to one, 76 Club, Burton on Trent, Alan Day.

Very flat atmosphere, the Torch had been on the previous night, would have been February 1973. Things picked up a bit in the evening, too much in fact as there was a scrap on the dance floor.

Didn't bother again.
