Are the orange label issues with a bevelled edge also original? Had a couple of these over the years which I've bought and sold for little or nothing.

Dave Raistrick showed me a white demo a few years ago . :thumbup:

Had my first orange label copy around Spring 1983 - would it have been released then, or was it actually a 70s release?

I have a white deejay copy as well Simon. Wasn't aware that it was particularly difficult in this format. As for the year of release I'm sticking my neck out with very late '70s.

Yeah I reckon about 1979 . They were all orange when I got mine lol :thumbsup: Sam has a nice acetate by this chap!!

Yellow label I believe 1969. Legit Orange label re-issue 1980.

any additions to the label listing would be appreciated.

Luckey "Jamal" Davis is for those not aware is also Mr Lucky (I Was Born To Love You).

It's never a '69 recording Chalky, '79 at the absolute earliest. I'd be very surprised if the orange reissues were more than a matter of hours after the yellow first press.

Good to see this picking up a few revival spins though, top quality tune..... :thumbsup:

Probably not Cliff in retrospect, I didn't have a copy of the record when I did the listing and was given that date by a usually reliable source, I might have even typed a 6 rather than a 7 at the time, I'll have to check all my notes when I get home or I'll just ask Lucky himself. It was as far as I can remember definitely before the orange press, not at the same time. Anyone got the run out details?

John Anderson had the original batch. I remember being there when he did his list. The originals are orange for sure. Price - wise I aint got a clue but I have two here unplayed.

1975/76 and think I paid about £40 or £50 for a mint yellow (first issue) sometime late last year. Guess they go for slightly less and I think the orange one goes for about half that?

that's how i remember it Simon.

Raistrick came back with a hundred count box of orange labels from the distributers (i bought one at the time, always a favourite of mine from Clifton Hall & the Winter Gardens) and i'm sure it was before i'd seen it on Anderson's list.

Hence the very old joke 'Lucky David' (100 count box) as apposed to 'Lucky Davis'. :)

Could it been possible that the differant colour pressings are cos they were maybe pressed at differant plants same time?? I.e East/West Coast.This happened a lot on lp`s where each plant left a mark :lol: .

I`ve got the Orange,i like the colour better :)

First heard this record on KGFJ radio station in LA around 1979 - zipped off to the local distributor in North Hollywood and bought a box of 100 copies as a NEW release- shipped them back to the UK, sold to Sam, Arthur, Adam etc....Played at Cleethorpes, Clifton Hall and so on, the rest is history.

Think Anderson and Clarkie had copies a little later on..

Found the first copies of BILEO on the same trip.

It definetly sounds from that period.I think what most the anoraks want to know if the label was yellow or orange.
