No. Yellow is orig 77 label. 1st label was local Impel. it was also legally re issued on multicoloured 77.

Well I'd never heard of it being done but you know how these thing's can turn out like some forgotten short run or something done in the late seventies but I didn't think it had been thank you Simon.

Is their not a W demo as well ?

Been told there are yellow bootlegs out there that are hard to tell from the original, was told this back in the 80s by numerous guys

Has never been bootlegged as far as I know, all the ones that were around in the 70s 80s were the multicoloured seventy 7 releases and they're actually legit apparently.

Unless they've just been booted lately by whoever it is that's churning all those lookalikes out, but most have them have another record on the b side anyway.

I'm going 'no'.

Sure the IMPEL one I had many moons ago was a green/blue colour, not red.... but my memories not what it was!

Remember getting this as a new release from Record Corner in Balham circa 72 along with Continental Four - What You Gave Up - Jay Walking. Ann Sexton never got much exposure at the the time as it was not really considered a "sound" and the tempo was not quite right - unlike Continental Four which got hammered on the decks as a new release.

Never heard of this being booted on the yellow seventy seven label.

Never heard of it being booted either, though I could see that "outta sight" label doing up a repro of it at some point since it always seems to be in demand. All I know is I'm happy I paid 99 cents for my slightly roughed up US original yellow issue!

Dave those multicoloured copies were done in 1977. The first represses of stuff on Sound Stage 7 / Seventy Seven etc were the blue ones and they were more likely 74/75 (Suzy Serenade, Little Ritchie etc) Definitely nothing as far back as 72, especially 77 label reissues.

Hi Jim, not really, I have one and the tinnieness and flimsy feel of it and because of what others have said made me assume mine was a boot, I would however, be delighted to be wrong and actually own a genuine issue, I reckon John Manship could clear this one up

There might be a recent carver type one with a stuck on label but there isn't one from the 70's or 80's.

Anyway Kev you only have to see what's in the run off, tells you all you need to know.

really pete....... that label design doesnt tie in with seventy seven release label at that time..they were black and had reverted to sound stage seven logo again..eddie billups shake off is on both designs from 1972 but that label was used up to 1974.when it changed to the blue sound logo.....do you think they could have been pressed in 1974 maybe... is the vinyl different to the yellow release?..there were new releases on sound ( ann sexton youre losing me brief encounter human) lee fields etc as well as northern reissues1974/75..mind you little richie and the valentines breakaway are on the multi coloured 77 as well as sound plus.was it pressed up with them....would love to get to the bottom of it

I always assumed the Orange/Black 77 issue (or multi-coloured) was just a slightly later press on the newly designed label? I certainly bought it either late '74/early '75 and definitely not as late as 1977. Got the Yellow issue many years later.

Yes - doubt it - yes.

I can say with 99.9% certainty that Ted Ford was played at Wigan in 1977 and it was definitely DEFINITELY released on orange 77 label at the end of that year and not before.

Little Ritchie was released at the same time because a rubbish looking Sound Stage 77 bootleg had appeared a month or two earlier. Breakaway and Ann Sexton also then appeared on orange 77 label. Breakaway had previously been out 2 years earlier as had LRitchie.

I'm pretty sure it was played in '74 at the Mecca but it took almost a year before it started to take off. It was around in quantity on the yellow 77 label and it wasn't unusual to see it for a quid or two in many people's boxes. It was a 'last hour' record at the Mecca for ages and built up a cult following and eventually started featuring earlier in the evening. It translated elsewhere at exactly the right point where people were a bit more receptive to different rhythms. It kinda surprised me when it started going big. I thought it was a bit too Southern for the tastes at the time but I was wrong. A guaranteed floor-filler across the country but that was probably 2 years later from when it was first played. A real grower!

I would go with Dave on this as we both went to Accrington British Legion Soul Club then, and I remember it being played. The DJ's n collectors bought from soul bowl then weekly. It was about before Ian Levine did his one night spot at the Casino. So that will date it.

Dave was an avid collector then, even going to the states to buy in bulk.

Back to the original question though. Never seen a boot of the yellow label. Unless someone done some lately........

I don't know about the adds Pete, but we used to go to London on record hurting trips.

And the last time I went was sometime in 75 and bought this and "I Sill Love You"

I did the States thing for the 1st time not long after and never the the London thing again.

I got my 1st yellow copy also in the back end of 75.

P.S. I don't know how Ian's post ended up being attached, but since it has. Ann Sexton was a floodfiler at the Mecca in 74 not just in the last hour!

As Jim says, "Breakaway" played at the Torch, but I didn't know "You are Gonna Need Me" and "Just Another Heartbreak" until 74 both played at the Mecca.
