post-1224-1150066047.jpg There's me looking like a young lad DJing at the Jaspers all-dayers in York October 1980. Thats Tony Coleby sat centre front and Kim from Selby wearing a pink shirt on the right.

post-1224-1150066235.jpg Don't some people just love having their photo taken (laughs). Dave Evison and Barry from York stood right.

Ahh ... Jaspers All dayers, I remember them well, had many good times there. Might dig out some of my photos if I get chance and post on here. Not seen Kim for years, look at Barry can hardly recognise him, such a baby face  Though not on phote wondered the other day, what happen to Steve Barlow sure he was Selby.

Had my 18th Northern birthday party at Jaspers in 1982, what a good nite that was, even if I say so myself.

Is that Diane from Leeds at the front?

I'm sure i will have some photos of Jaspers somewhere, have you any?

I thought that was Kim . I've got a great one of him at Wigan somewhere - i'll dig it out and post it soon.

Jaspers was great - all day piss up in York , boating on the river , fun in the park then into Jaspers . It always seemed to be dead sunny - just halcyon days :D

Also The Oval Ball on Haxby Road , Thursday nights with Alan Rhodes , Ron Pedley and Bub . But what about Sunday alldayers at The Highwaymans Halt in Snaith (GREAT DO ! )

Kim and Graham from Harrogate were part of the furnature at these venues (my wife still has some records off these two )

Steve Barlow, and his sister Tina, were from Skelton, about 5 miles up the road from York

Don't know where he is, but Tina used to turn up at the Holgate with Julia. Can remember DJ'ing at a couple of Jaspers 'dayers with Ian and Chris  Ahhh happy days.......

Nicky,

On the second photo from the left are Steve Barker and his girlfriend (can't remember her name), Ronnie Marsh and Steve Campbell who were all from Northallerton. Steve B and Ronnie are still in Northallerton, Steve C is now in Brighton.

Never went to Jaspers myself but I use to travel every week with these guys to the Oval Ball, great warm up session for the Casino. I also remember going to an all-dayer at Boroughbridge around 1980 but can't remember the name of the venue.

Think it was the Cottage Cottage Homes Hotel ? Remember going from York with Alan

Rhodes & a few others, think Manship was DJing aswell.

Oval Ball ran on Thurs nights, think we started it in 77 after Chris & Sue Holmes had their Wedding reception there, great venue good.

Cheers Ian

Top venue the Oval Ball  Alan Rhodes wedge cut was bigger than Colin Curtis's

Boroughbridge was one of Jinxy's do's I think.

I felt sorry for the unsuspecting country folk in North Yorkshire in those days.

And here we go again with Piercebridge (well it's on the border)

I've got literally hundreds & hundreds of photos taken at various clubs over the last (nearly) 30 years and slowly but surely I'm working my way through them when time and motivation allows. Used to DJ every now and then at Jinxy's do's at Rudies and took loads of pics there as well. When I post them up the fun bit is trying to see if you might just be one of those (unknown to me) strangers in the background wandering by.

cheers, derek

I used to know Jinxy well and used to knock round with Mick Hussey back then. Rudies was my stomping ground at that time and I used to travel to Wigan with the Scarborough lot.

That'll be Talbot Hotel then - aka my pub. I had the lease between 1994 and '97. Ran soul nights with my old mucka Nick Ward who's just about AWOL these days. After the pub closed we moved to the Conservative Club for a while (huge compromise for me - but it did have an ace dancefloor...). After that we went to the Royal Hotel until middle of1999. Nick fell out with the 3rd partner Adey Stelling. I couldn't be arsed with taking sides and quit. The club folded and Adey started the 99 Soul Club at the Corner.

Have to say I still miss Wardy :P

I actually did a spot at Jinxys night last Friday. Bloody nightmare. Back to the old funk nights for me as far as Scarborough goes blush.gif

Think I remember who you are now, have good memories from the Talbot, small but very atmospheric - went to the Conservative too when you moved venues - fabulous dance floor, had good nites there too, just didn't seem to have the same feel. Corner cafe only went once or twice. Adey ran the corner cafe with Mick B didn't he? Sounds like Jinxy's ok - I'm glad, last time I saw him was at Melodies and he and Diane had split up.

Hi Kim

So glad there all ok - met Diane and partner at Jaspers/Melodies after Di and Jinxy had seperated, not sure if it's the same person she's with now, Di seemed very happy at the time - good to hear that Jinxy's happy and settled.

Hi, I'm Steve Barlow.

I co ran Jaspers with Gary Hepworth to start with until we had a spat. We ran Tuesday nights and a monthly dayer to start with, but Tuesday nights weren't that well attended.

The dayers were the most attended soul events that York ever had, regular attendances broke 350-400, I enjoyed every minute! The record collection went in 2001 to Pat Brady who also did a spot there, I regret selling most of those records! (sigh)

I also did spots with Derek at Bradford, also did a couple at The Oval Ball, Rudies in Scarborough, and who remembers the Nighter at The Forge on the A64? That was the last that I did.

Thanks for the pictures Derek, and regards to Steve Bowman, Mr. James, Kim and all the York crew who knew me, fantastic memories of my years in the soul scene 1975-1982.

I do have some tunes on youtube, check 'em out on the elvingtonred channel!
