no particular order:

Sarah Vaughan - I Need You More Than Ever Now

Loleatta Holloway - Cry To Me

Gladys Knight & The Pips - The Makings Of You

Jean Carn - Time Waits For No One

Chic - At Last I Am Free

If i may, i may add another

The fidels- try a little harder.

Moses Smith = Girl across the street. Only when I listen to it on my own. Works every time, and I don't know why ! Soft git.

This melts me to a gibbering mess. Play this and you could do anything with me, shape me, mould me, delete me. It;s those backing vocals that turn me into jelly...

No one has mention:

Uphill Climb - Walter Jackson

Hey Girl - Freddie Scott

Shirley Brown - It's worth a whipping

Loletta Holloway - This man's arms

Brenda Holoway - How Can I

Spinners- It's a shame

Powerful stuff this stuff we love

Temptations - Since I Lost My Baby

Vivian Reed - Save Your Love For Me

i love you more than you'll ever know - Donny Hathaay

an obvious one for me is Marvin Gaye 'whats going on'  but for a real 'haunting' tune try Masters of Soul  'by the time I get to phoenix'.  unbelievable version and make sure you listen right to the end!!

No mentioned James Blunt.

If you are listening to tunes from JB you have lost all sanity and ought to be blubbing like a baby as they take you away in a yellow van.

The Dells 'Make Sure' and Sam Dees 'After All'

The Dells-- Reminising

Thelma Jones---Salty Tears

The Controllers--My Love Is Real

Roy Hamilton--Heartache hurry on by.

Take me to the top of your mountain--Ron Matlock.

All these get me everytime, killer soul all the way.

Cheers Chris

for me it has to be Ray Pollard - no more like me - Shrine

fantastic and effortless by the legend (somebody please attach soundclip)

A real tear jerker this one , even William Bell, Velvet Hammer and Pharell W wouldn't be so happy hearing it.

The great Paul Williams gets every last drop of emotion from the words whilst the others provide the perfect backing.

Unissued at the time , maybe too intense, for Motown. If it had been issued, the recording may have faded out before it does here but that would have lost the last gasp from Paul.

At the time Paul Williams had a very troubled life, marriage break up, failing health, drink , drugs and rows within the group. He took his own life, although some people question this, which adds further depth to the record.
