A new year and a new beginning for the fabulous Soul Source photography thread. We've had so many fantastic contributions from so many members over two very long-running and very lengthy threads now, so it makes sense to start afresh.

For people who perhaps haven't contributed before, the idea is very simple: although the emphasis has been on nature/wildlife/flowers and scenic views, just post up and share pics you've taken of, well, just about anything.

Here's three from me, which were taken today in a small nature reserve behind Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. Although it started out as a very clear and sunny afternoon, conditions changed very quickly and it became very overcast - and, I have to say, there was very little in the way of birdlife to see. Perhaps they'd all cleared off elsewhere as the place was pretty busy with people out burning off the Christmas calories.

Second that Pete. I know I little bit about birds and animals but really nothing about plants and trees.

I continue to be amazed by the power of nature, yet we seem hell bent on destroying the beauty of this planet we call home, sometimes I think we're the aliens.

I'm not a fan of daffodils, but the specie Narcissus is incredibly vast and beautiful, I still have one or two to find in Spain, and as one is a late autumn flowerer I have that as an excuse to keep searching next year.  Bytheway, I was wearing shorts and sandals on my foray yesterday, it was like a late spring day in the UK.

Stone the Crows, our mate comes onboard our Fishing Boat for a biscuit every time we go past Brownsea Island on our way out of Poole Harbour,                                                      I  managed to grab a couple of pictures on Boxing Day, there was nearly a mutiny having to go out on a boat on boxing day mind! :pirate: :)

Took this at the top of Fairfield, atmospheric conditions have to be just right it's called a Glory when a rainbow appears at the end of your shadow, I'm no expert at photography wish I was in this instance but you can just about make out the Rainbow at the end of me and my mates shadows. He was lucky enough a few years ago to see a Brocken Spectre where your shadow stretches across the clouds.

We had a rare visitor today, this little beauty should be mid Atlantic off the coast of Africa, it is a Grey Phalarope and was as close to tame as I have seen a wild bird at Belvide, it would happily swim within a few metres of us on the shore, at one point it was swimming under the Pike anglers rods.

First one for three years, so it drew a good crowd

I love that fire place as much as Blackie!

Just a couple from me today. First day out proper with the new lens, nothing as exotic as Martyns Phalarope.

Just a female Goosander ( redhead ) and a male Shoveler

Thanks, Steve. I might have started the original thread, but its success is entirely because of the now countless wonderful photos everyone has shared here. As I mentioned not so long ago, I've hardly been out and about with my camera at all this year. The only real exception being when we went on holiday in the summer. Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to change that in the new year and start contributing more regularly once again.

Thanks, then, to you and everyone who's made "Show us your great photos (2016)" as good as, if not even better than, the 2015 thread. And here's looking forward to the 2017 edition, which I'm sure will offer up even more fantastic selections, and which I'll start up once we leave the old year and cross the threshold of the new one.

Cheers, all!

Thanks Ste, after months in hospital it's good to have him home, he is still on a trickle of oxygen to help develop his lungs but that's nothing compared to what he has been through......

Hope to see you and Lou in the new year mate :)

My eldest was born a month prem, with a heart murmur, pneumonia & all sorts of complications, had the last rites and we we told to prepare for the worst. Back in the day (1975) when it left him with next to no chance of making it.

41 years later..........................

I was thinking that too Steve, but was hoping to narrow it down a lot further, looks like the River Nene, somewhere around Thrapston, but I could be way of course.

It's the back water where it splits from the nene to Whittlesea, right near Stanground lock - if you zoom in on the middle pic the bridge is the Peterborough to March line.

I thought I knew the area, old stamping ground for me.

Thought I would say farewell to 2016 with an unassuming Robin ... hope you all have a happy new year

Extremely touching and uplifting. May he grow stronger and stronger with each day.
