:hatsoff2:HI ALL. THIS YEAR WILL BE 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL, BACK THEN THERE WAS STILL A DEVELOPING YOUTH CULTURE IN THE UK, AFTER ALL IT HAD ONLY BEEN RECOGNISED FOR 10 YEARS OR SO, WITH YOUR TEDDY BOYS, BEATNIKS, BAN THE BOMB LEFT WING STUDENTS, MODS & ROCKERS, HOWEVER IT'S THE MOD SCENE THAT HAS IT'S ROOTS IN US R&B MUSIC AS WELL THE INFLUANCE OF CARABEIAN CULTURE & MUSIC,WHICH DEVELOPED IN CELLERS OF OLD HOUSES IN WHAT WAS THE BLACK AREAS OF LARGE CITYS, FOLLOWING ON FROM THE RIOTS IN SHEPARDS BUSH, THE BLACK MUSIC SCENE WENT UNDERGROUND, AS SUCH THE MODS FOLLOWED, IN LONDON MANY FAMOUS BUT SHORT LIVED CLUBS SERVERD THE BLACK COMMUNITY WITH ALL NIGHT BLUES,GAMBLING HOUSES WHICH PLAYED THE JAMAICAN SOUNDS OF THE DAY, LIKE MOST MUSIC SCENES OF THE DAY DANCE MUSIC IS A THROW AWAY SCENE AS THE DJ WAS THE TOP DOG, TO KEEP THE CLUB RUNNING HIS RECORDS WERE A SECRET AND HE WOULD NOT LET ANYONE KNOW IT'S TRUE IDENTITY PLAYED.

AS THE 6TS MOVED ON THE R&B CLUBS STARTED PLAYING MORE UPBEAT BLACK MUSIC, & EVEM THE NAME CHANGED FROM R&B TO SOUL, SOME PEOPLE FROM TIN PAN ALLEY SAW A MARKET IN BLACK MUSIC THAT WAS NOT IDENTIFYED AS WORTHY OF RADIO PLAY, BUT PEOPLE LIKE RONAN O'RILRY HAD A NEW APPROACH BY PLAYING MUSIC FROM A SHIP, THIS WAS CALLED PIRATE RADIO, CAROLINE, RADIO LONDON TOOK TO THE AIR WAVES FROM 1963 TO 67 WHEN NEW LAWS ON BROADCASTING WERE INTRODUCED, MOST ALLNIGHTERS WERE BY WORD OF MOUTH, THESE WERE LOCATED IN THE NORTH & IN LONDON,WHERE THE FIRST RECOGNISED ALLNIGHTER STARTED, CALLED THE SCENE CUB IN GT WINDMILL STREAT IN SOHO THE MUSIC POLICY WAS A MIXTURE OF US BLACK R&B, JAMAICAN SKA & ROCK STEADY.

I would like to think that we have the passion of the worlds longest running Youth Sub Culture, To celebrate 50 years of rare soul, it would be good if you could make at least once a week to pick a sound that you feel hits your soul, the choice is yours alone, however still dig out those 45s that the night has made you expose it to the world via SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018.

MY FIRST PICK WILL FOLLOW ON SHORTLEY AS I STILL CAN'T GET MY HEAD AROUND MY PC TRANSFERING MUSIC FROM MY COLLECTION INTO A MUSIC LIBARY, IT'S NOT FARE, ANYWAY PLEASE TRY TO CELABRATE 50+ YEARS OF SOUL. BELOW ARE SOME OF MY MEMORIES OF 50 YEARS, IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF LAST 50 YEARS THAT RELATE TO THIS THREAD POST THEM PLEASE

Recent acquisition, The Soul Notes - Don't Make Me Bag - Way Out , though I'll be amazed if Martyn for one, hasn't posted it at sometime.

A former sales box cheepo, that must now have legs, with two cracking sides:

Mick

Big 90t's nighter tune that still gets the odd outing.

Yes I'll have posted it at some time I would think in the past but still worth another post, still love it as much as the first time I heard it.

The demos are the only way you can get "Don't Make Me Beg"

Been missing for awhile but caught up now & some nice tunes posted.

Got a couple of things to add & first up is a long time want that I've managed to acquire (at last).

Old Stafford play for Guy Hennigan & C/U as Earnest Mosley? Also an LP track for the 4 Tops.

Jimmy Hart-Tea House In China Town Mercury Demo

Bang up to date with this great double-sider

The James Hunter Six- I Got Eyes Daptone

The James Hunter Six - I Don't Wanna Be Without You Daptone

A bit of British anyone :D

Nearly the same as Bo Jr-Coffee Pot but a lot cheaper.By the way for the anoraks Bo Jr's version is the theme tune to Hawksbee & Jacobs radio show on TalkSport :hatsoff2:

David Ede & Go Man Go Men-Last Night Pye

Staying with the British tunes & the Pye label but something very different, got this given ages ago but don't think I've posted it?

B side of his 1976 chart hit "Now Is The Time". Bet there's loads of these at car boots etc.

Jimmy James-Want You So Much Pye

Another from 76 & a great double-sider from The O'Jays

The O'Jays-Paradise PIR

The O'Jays-Message In Our Music PIR

I got eyes edges it for me but both sides get played a lot on my system, if you heard it without knowing anything about it you'd think it was a late sixties recording?

Not posted for a while just gonna post a horn driven  Double Header !

The Mad Men - Do The African Twist pt1 & pt2 - Gamble

Atb Kev :hatsoff2:

Hiya Martyn, hope all good with you

Not heard this at all but really like it - hadn't heard of James Hunter either so looked him up thinking he must be American (Daptone, etc) but actually from Colchester. Used to be known as Howling Wilf :D

2 fantastic sides i dont recall this ever having huge plays i hardly recall hearing it out ? It doesnt appear to fall into classic oldie status.

Maybe just not rare enough either......

Recently aquired from my bro'

Bobby Rio Ask the Lonely Picadilly 7N.35303 1966
A sterling effort by a UK artist , made by the orchestral arrangement by the great Ivor Raymonde.

Added this Brilliant oldie from Chuck Jackson - I Don't Want To Cry recently to the box.  :hatsoff2:

Another addition for me and one of my all time favourite Northern Soul tracks, The Major's - You Don't Want Me No More, it just doesn't get much better!    :hatsoff2:

Sorry but this is one of those "untouchable" tunes for me,as you say descent effort but pales in comparison to Levi & The Tops.

Some good tunes hidden on those cheap MFP and Starline albums, my mate doing his weekly Charity shop search looking through the usual fare of Klaus Wunderlich, Jim Reeves etc  turned up a Sammy Davis Jr album he was just about to discard it when he noticed one of the tracks was Being Natural.
