Aided by the angst of youth, I can remember getting very frustrated and angry that others couldnt see just how mind blowingly fantastic this tune was. Even guys who might like Get Ready, or Mustang Sally. Because it wasnt a regular play on the radio it had absolutely no standing with them at all.

Now I am perfectly happy they have their Phil Collins and stuff to listen to on CD

First record I ever bought - "These things...." Still would be my favourite, despite other great tracks, especially "Lonely, lonely girl am I". In my opinion a timeless masterpiece.

was one of the first ones to get me interested in motown records that werent in the top twenty etc

ie:- to me they were more obscure and that made them even better

"These Things".. still a cracker after all these years.

Does anyone have any ihfo on the alternative take that was used on Chartbusters 6 and The Cd Chris King put together This is Northern Soul.??

Was this ever issued as a single or did Motown ship the wrong tape/

So difficult this, neglected to some extent by Motown.

A sort of poor relation to the other groups as far as releases go,

and then we discover the wealth of recordings on the marvelous Double CD Collection. The Motown Anthology

I love The Velvelettes, but If I was pressed I would have to say Lonely, Lonely Girl Am I.

However

I have been to a couple of functions recently, weddings etc where the DJ has played

"Needle In A Haystack" and the like, in order to help get the party in full swing.

Once the Dance floor is full to breaking point, all ages, he then turns to the chart of the day and the dance floor starts to empty.

How much would a VIP demo fetch these days ?

I have been to a couple of functions recently, weddings etc where the DJ has played

"Needle In A Haystack" and the like, in order to help get the party in full swing.

Without a doubt it's just got to be 'Needle in A Haystack'. No matter how many times I hear it, no matter how much i get told its cheesy, no matter how much the chin-strokers diss it........IT'S AWESOME....

I hate to say the following (cos it's dead boring so to do!) but.......... just imagine if this was found in the can today as an unreleased jobbie. There'd be questions asked in parliament, a special parade would be held down whitehall in its honour, it could bring peace to the world. Goddamit, it would even make my mucker Rob Thomas smile!

From those opening bars of pure fantasticness, its one of the best ever. IM(nv)HO, of course

I might even have it played at my funeral to cheer things along (just before 'Keep The Fires Burning')

Sadly my father in law passed at Christmas, we had his funeral at the beginning of this year.

The question of music to be played came up, and I was shocked to discover that they had stopped people bringing their favourite CD or tape etc

Apparently, If it isn't on our vast database they said then unfortunately we can't play it.

We do try and have only failed a couple of times to find someones favourite piece of music.

Shocked Surely this is wrong.

A Bird in the Hand was always the favourite, but then I discovered Let Love Live. Anyway I have heard the ladies sing both tracks live so I'm quite happy, another ambition realised

Love these girls, my favourite Motown girl group, but isn't Needle In A Haystack an overplayed classic. Also love 'Aint' No Place Like Motown'

NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK and LET LOVE LIVE are my favorites from them.

It just has to be both Needle in a Haystack and These Things Will Keep Me Loving You.

Some great tracks there peeps.Would like to add "He Was Really Saying Something" to this.Heard it on radio.From opening intro had me singing along while driving home from work.
