Things i love:

The sicky feeling i get in my stomach during the day before a Soul night, knowing that its soo close!!

Looking at your watch and realising you have another 6 hours to go!!

The DING DONG of the postman (EASY!) at the door with a brown package for you! (ok that just sounds wrong!!

Obvious one being on the dancefloor hearing sounds you havent heard before and making the hairs on your neck stand up and you just wanna shout "F**KING YESS GET INNN!! WHAT THE FOOK IS THIS AHHHHHHH DONT END SONG PLEASE DONT END!!"

Added with all the friends you make and places you go to you would never normally visit and the atmosphere it all creates, even the people that just sit there and dont smile all night make this scene the scene that it is today and i for one just LOVE it all.

I love the Northern Soul Scene, The Best Venues EVER, No other Music comes close.

Everything....

The music - dancing - the people - records Labels, Artist's and their history. The fact that no one can ever say the've heard everything ever recorded, which ensure's there's alway's something new to hear.

I really love the fact that the scene offer's such a vast array of things to learn n discover that it's an endless path to walk n I can certainly say I never get bored.

Though it's alway's a good thing to take time out to do other stuff outside the scene, like learning how to fly a Helicopter

No matter where I am, or what I am doing, whenever I hear it (the music of course) I am transported back to the tiime and place where I first heard it. God Damn!

Best thing about the scene for me is, In a traffic jam on the M25. Jackie Wilson came on the radio. Hot day top tune, so i got out of the car and did some shuffling on the M25 for 3 minutes or so and then got back in the car. Nothing else could possibly make me do that other than the MUSIC.

The fact that we know not everyone 'gets it' makes me feel special.

The emotion in the voices of these men and women who were singing for their lives, about their lives, and my life, never ceases to amaze me.

I think sad though it is, the fact that most of them never really got anywhere making this music adds to the-I can't think of the word- romance maybe.

The fact that a few people 40 odd years ago 'got it' and have managed to keep it going all this time, and it is still not mainstream, or commercialised, is something I am so grateful for.

Truly mate, i bet its on a police 5 or crimestoppers rerun somewhere. . My Mrs at the time thought i was mad and kept shouting at me to stop embarresing her (i wasnt embarressed)and get back in the car. Some people just dont get it. Thats the beauty of the scene i think, that when you get immersed in it,and you dont need to be out of your head,and you feel sorry for people who dont know what it is.

i like been off the scene as much as on it mainly due to the fact that when i do visit a do allnighter its great to catch up with everyone,get the gossip etc.My scene is record collecting not the northern soul scene that i only occasionally frequent mainly due to alot of the dislikes in the other posts and not enough hours in the day etc.

Looking forward to another usa trip this year to look for records to me for the last 3-4 years ive done this more and went to less dos mainly because its a good break and a different perspective etc.

THE most awesome memory for me on the northern scene was not wigan or anything like that but the first time butch played jesse james love is allright ,to me it all fell into place ,i thought to myself as i had a subliminal momment [that philly drum roll will not be bettered]this will not get anybetter ,goosepimples down the spine and you know what it hasnt!

i love the friendliness and in a way the bitchiness as well seldom does any other music evoke such passion,but at the end of the day i love the flip sides more than the monsters cos they usually are ballads or deep soul and that is my main passion now.

seeing about 200-300 people, average age must be 40, but many younger and older dancing like mad in the main room at 7 in the morning at Prestatyn while the so called 'young generation' generally mope around in bars that shut at 1 am listening to nondescript background music, or cram into meat market fun clubs leering at each other to a soundtrack of banal shite.

Truely shows that age is irrelevant (untill your knees or hips go ) and passion is everything. brilliant.

With all the negative stuff on SS and the weekend coming up, thought I'd add to this again with an old post:

Here are a few of my favourite things:

Hearing new sounds and running up to the DJ to ask about it.

Having friends round to the house early, few drinks and spin a few tunes.

Driving up to the do with friends and hearing all the excited banter.

Meeting friendly new people and they always seem to understand that you have to shoot off for a dance mid-sentence.

Good dance floor etiquette. We all try to avoid bumping into people, but it happens. It's so nice to see both parties turn round and apologise. I see it all the time

The 2 hour goodbyes at the end of the night.

Chatting to people without them or their boyfriends thinking you're on the pull

The fact that you can leave your bag anywhere and it won't get touched.

People at the bar who say "he was here first"

Free flowing drinks, cigarettes and chewing gum. Share and share alike.

Service station meets for coffee afterwards - See Stafford services after Stoke

Promoting and flyering nights for friends and having it reciprocated

Driving back from a do, all the others are out cold. Just you, your favourite CD and an empty motorway.

Can't wait for the weekend now

That's it for me in a nutshell. It doesn't matter who you're talking to or what you're talking about. Every cell in your body is suddenly telling you "Stop this now, get out there and dance". It often just takes the first note and I'm away with the missus trailing in my wake. She's used to it by now.

I also like that feeling you get when you go to a venue you haven't visited before and you get there early doors, enter the big room and do the mental checklist: plenty of interesting looking record boxes, big, proper dance floor; big, long bar with lots of people ready to serve, lot's of good sitting space, vaguely remembered nice tune playing, friendly faces all around - woohoo

Update Reg..Liam is here already and Olof gone a month now....Liam and Olof have the same passion and the build up to a weekend...Olof aint sick of anything soul wise,he just had to go back to work in Sweden after a long long holiday here .....He will be back,he is missing the weekends already...

Things i like about the soul scene,tooooooooooooooooooo many to mention...I try and get overseas as much as possible to soul nights,i like the buzz of another country and meeting like minded people...Sometimes my only connection is on the dancefloor when that sounds comes on,soul is in just one language
