Therefore I've now decided to respond to any want directly on the thread.

I'll list price, condition and bang up a scan if I can be bothered.

This way it opens the "want" up to other potential buyers, and the person posting the "want" might be less inclined to fanny around.

You've just highlighted one of the things that annoys me more than anything. It's just polite to reply to a PM..as you say doesn't matter if it's a yes, no or get stuffed. Course loads of people do reply but the ones that don't.....

annoying isnt it? still no reply is better than the time wasters who want a £200 item for a tenner and put endless wants lists on never actually intending to buy ....i must admit printing a public response seems to work better as ive sold stuff to persons other than the thread starter that way....

If it is some kinda problem for sellers/buyers all you gotta do is make it the rule that when posting a want you put how much you want to pay. Ok you may not get the 45 for less than you thought but at least you'd get it for what you considered it was worth, and those sellers who thought they'd chance their arm with an inflated price wouldn't have the opportunity.

No bad feeling at all.

you can always respond politely. if someone acts like a jerk back to you, that's on them, not on you.

I know how you feel and sometimes it seems like politeness and good manners are in short supply in this world. That said, I agree totally that most people on here and on our scene generally are decent well-meaning people.

On the occasions I have been late in replying to messages (e.g. like now because my Mum is in hospital at the moment) I have been grateful for the patience people have shown me - even holding records for me for quite a while.

I do think there should be room for a bit of negotiation or haggling on price.

So why not just put a time limit for a reply when sending a PM in reply to a want, saying you will offer the item for sale (or offers) on the thread if you haven't heard anything back by then? All clear and above board then

I agree. How many posts on Wants Lists want them 'cheap as chips' 'no silly prices' 'realistic' 'remember the credit crunch' etc for something dead rare that hardly turns up. I can't help but have a suspicion that they have a buyer waiting who's ready and willing to pay top whack.

Saw a short list on here recently that was a wants list someone had also sent to me via my web site. Didn't have the brass neck myself.

just to let people know, if i put a want up on here, its cos ive had loads of success on this site and allways found the pricing and grading very fair indeed, but i do understand peoples frustration, ive replied to wants on here through pm`s with not even a reply, wich i find very rude, even a no thanks would do, if youve taken the time to try and help someone out thats the least you can ask for

I've only ever put two wants up on here, one came through and resulted in a great record for me, one didn't get any response. On both occasions I put the want and what I was prepared to pay. As it's me that wanted the record I thought it only fair to state that. If I'm selling I put a price I expect to sell for, may not always get it right as records we but and sell don't have intrinsic value, only what another (or two in bidding) is prepared to pay.

There are a number of reasons why records appear on here on wants list...

But above all...its a hard item with no luck ...often over a period of time ..in finding one.

I personally never post wants lists....there's always something else..

But to those who do there does seem to be an expectation to get something thats hard to find..in tip top condition ..for next to nothing.To a certain extent that's what we would all like.

I think the fairest all round is for those posting a want to state price willing to pay so that everyone knows whats what.

once I posted a big want list here and then found some german guy stole the entire list and posted like a few of their wants under it on their myspace page, which was funny. i got most of the items on it since anyways (but not from here!).

hi pete, what i normally do is post in top section for a realistic price, did this last year on an item i was looking for and got a valuation of £70 put it on wants and got three replies between £40-£55, so were does that leave us by putting up a pice you want to pay? whilst i fully understand what you say its a tricky one really

I have posted a want up before without any success but I think the aim of me posting would be looking for one of 2 things:

1. If it's a fairly common record to get severall offers and take the best one. Still need to say already sorted to the other offerers.

2. If it's a rarer item to get any offer and if it's reasonable to take it.

But Pete's original point was that people are posting, asking for PM's and then not bothering to reply to the PM's. AND THERES NO EXCUSE FOR THAT !!

It takes less than 2 minutes just to type a brief comment such as "already sorted, thanks" or "more than I want to pay, thanks" or something similar so theres no excuse at all for no response. IMHO

Lets face it ...collecting records is about knowledge and information. If you know a good tune but can't get hold of it quickly, I've found a bit of patience and sitting tight until it appears on a list or evilbay is the best way . If you post it as a want on a site or send a wants list to a dealer you may as well broadcast it on News at 10. As others have said the net effect of doing this is that others, who perhaps dont know the record, then start to pursue it and those the have it want top dollar as they fear giving it away and watching it mushroom in value .

The guy who wanted the record claims, he'll get the money at the end of the month and you even agree to that. And two months later, there is still no payment!

It happened to me as well, after no initial response to a deal after a month, the buyer made his apologies and said he would send the money straight away.......that was almost a month ago and I'm still waiting.
