  1. Neither. And certainly never those flimsy envelopes, which offer zero corner protection. For most standard orders we use Defenda’s Musicmax mailers with two of their extra rigid stiffeners. We ship a lot of vinyl from the shop and send it around the world without issue. For more expensive items or shipments of 3-5 albums we use the deluxe mailers from Covers33, which are essentially their version of Whiplash mailers.
  2. Just seen from Ramsey Lewis. RIP Isaac “Redd” Holt, drummer on many of my all time favourite records from The Ramsey Lewis and Young Holt Trios. I guess for many people on here California Montage will be the big Young Holt Trio tune but for it’s got to be this killer. Rest easy Redd.
  3. I think some of the fairs in the Northwest were definitely playing to the growing NS crowd. I remember loads of popular Motown of the time being played: Two Can Have A Party, Needle In Haystack, Wherever I Lay My Hat etc) but also Festival Time and stuff like The Kid and Condition Red, which sounded awesome coming out of the powerful, bassy systems. The last two still trigger the sights, sounds and smells of the fairground whenever I hear them.
  4. You mean you’re hoping for Footsie, right? Kidding Mick!!
  5. Warner currently own the Pye/PRT back catalogue.
  6. Image of die cut sleeve that these 45s come in.
  7. Maybe not soul music connected enough for this thread, but I enjoyed "Dolemite Is My Name" - the Rudy Ray Moore biopic. He made a few cracking soul/funk/R&B records amongst all the blue material though!
  8. Motown and related Box Sets. These are all genuinely Near Mint. No warps, scuffs and the Tempts 45 was checked and plays without faults. These boxes came from the estate of a late collector who was a customer of ours. Not a DJ and really took care of his records. I have no way of knowing if the downloads work. Sorry about the glare on the pics - it's been sunny! 9. An amazing singer songwriter, astonishing vocalist and a lovely human being. Saw her play at Glasto with a terrific band including Mick Talbot on keyboards. I chatted to her occasionally online and she was kind, funny and smart, with some great stories of the music business. Reach For The Truth would be one of my Desert Island Discs.
  10. Hi all Just had a set of Motown 7s boxes come into the shop. They all look superb but I recall reading about some issues witha couple of the early ones. Can anyone advise which volumes/discs had the problems please? I'd like to avoid hours of internet searching and/or playing through both sides of all the singles if possible! Thanks in advance

  15. Part of the issue is that everybody with soul records thinks they should automatically get more than they paid for them - regardless as to whether they paid a premium price at the time, paid the price of M for VG, bought when demand was high etc etc etc. The concept that prices and demand fluctuate appears to be alien to a lot of folk...
  16. UK sales only please. Shipping £5 signed for, any amount. We take bank transfer / Paypal and will never ask you for Family and Friends payment. PM to secure please. These are posted in several groups. .................. John Thomas – It Sure Is Groovy / Come See Me – Veep promo Pic Sleeve £44 Two great Mod/Soul sides for the price of one. Check the credits… Both sides glossy Mint Hard to find promo sleeve has a small amount of wear but is still extremely presentable. https://youtu.be/96EylFsULGs https://youtu.be/fyicJJZg6r4 Mystic Moods – Astral Trip – WB Promo VG+ £39 Appropriately trippy sounding dancer from the Wigan era and still a popular oldie. Vinyl has light surface marks but is still glossy and plays at least Ex. https://youtu.be/C3jw25hxehs Lorna Doone – Dangerous Town – RCA Promo VG+ £29 Uptempo Big City style sound. Super strong VG+ with lightest of paper marks. Seen at much higher prices https://youtu.be/xobRNWQfMdU Dutch Robinson – Can’t Get Along Without You – UA Promo VG £35 SOLD Seldom heard out, which is a mystery. Never booted or reissued, this has loads of legs left. M/S promo. Stereo side is pretty crackly but Mono side sounds great. https://youtu.be/bwhDwxEnS8A Vivian Roberts – So Very Proud of You VG+ £29 Would have sat nicely between Judy Hughes and Vivian Carrol, but seldom heard out. Nice blue eyed female dance that takes off when the backing vocals come in. Some ringwear and slight discolouration to label as seen. Vinyl has surface marks but it’s a solid player. https://youtu.be/uuMggqlDDvY Linda Elliot – Fell In Love With You Baby – Josie Promo VG+ £39 SOLD Light marks, nice play copy. A little ring wear to label as seen. Old school, feelgood Northern fave which retains the ability to pack floors https://youtu.be/T93Ze_xTbi4 Joe Tex – Under Your Powerful Love – Dial VG+ £24 SOLD Perennial fave across various scenes. Somewhat questionable lyrics, it has to be admitted, but a great soul dancer nonetheless. Styene looks Ex but has evidence of a pressure fracture which they’re prone to, but the record isn’t actually cracked and it plays perfectly. Slight label smudge. https://youtu.be/oz1d5OBTpMQ Stingers - I refuse to be Lonely – Stax VG+ £75 One of the rarer Stax singles and a terrific dancer. Only available on issue, as the promos have the funk flip on each side. Never booted/reissued, so tons of potential. This copy has a couple of surface scuffs, so we’re grading VG+ but it plays beautifully and the labels are lovely and clean. https://youtu.be/loapjyrryXQ
  17. Needed for a non-soulie pal and fellow record shop owner who just likes the song. Ideally cheaper than Discogs JM if poss: Bobby Patterson - Till You Give In. Thanks in advance!
  18. He’s conflating someone selling records which are - in his view - overpriced with organised criminals deliberately setting out to defraud victims. There’s a clear difference, which is evident to most I suspect.
  19. Probably Baby Huey. Or the Gene Chandler version, which is called In My Body’s House. Both excellent tunes.
  20. I think it's treated/sped up sample of Dynamic Superiors - Leave It Alone.
  21. It's worth remembering that although it was recorded in 1961, it was unissued at the time and the so called original is in fact from 1977....
