  1. Flippin' wonderful. But Linda Jones on the other hand was a proper squawker.
  2. Are you sure about that Gene? I have had a burgundy vinyl Tempos since the 70's which I always thought was a boot.
  3. It plays great Rhys. I haven't played it for years but I know the audio quality is fine.
  4. Here's a few more Chris. I borrowed a camera from college but as is fairly obvious from the results, I didn't know what I was doing with it. These aren't of Brian so feel free to move them somewhere more appropriate. Oldies 5th anniversary Feb 6th 1981.
  5. I think they forgot to record any bass sound onto my old purple boot. Very tinny sounding.
  6. Here's a picture I took of Brian at Wigan.

Sold my copy earlier this year for about £150 I think.
  8. That'd be nice on a piece of vinyl.
  9. The fabled 12" of Closer. I was looking for that for years, no-one ever knew anything about it's existence, although Manchester rumour said it did exist.
  10. That's a great track Roual. Nice video too.
  11. Impossible, expensive and never for sale. Although having said that, I think George Mahood had one a few weeks back.
  12. Yes, let's all read dribble from right wing rags newspapers, there's no racism there at all is there. Christ on a bike what a friggin' mountain out of a molehill. Craig Charles is hardly your Guardian type is he? Dumb, thoughtless comment, probably based on some heresay incident.
  13. Don, have you still got any of these left. I need 2. Cheers...Jordi
  14. Offers over £500 for a beautiful MINT copy in picture sleeve of 'Heaven is my Witness'. This very rarely comes up for sale as the people who have it want to keep it. PM if interested. Many thanks.
  15. These people really need to learn to snipe bid (or may be not). That bidding history is hilarious.
  16. If I played some 'Northern' to black mates that I have, and said this is soul, I would recieve some very quizzical looks to say the least. The problem is that the traditional northern stuff is as much about pop and garage band stuff as it is soul. So long as it has a 4 to the floor snare beat it would do, whereas most soul doesn't use that beat.
  17. What do you get if you pay the £40 VIP rate?
  18. I think the RCA 'Rare' series of albums was far and away the best sets of rare groove compilations. If you can find the Midnight Music bootleg comps, they are also just as good if not better. (IMO)
  19. Colin, just go to the next Soul Funk-tion in Walsall. Dark, hot, sweaty and atmospheric, full of energy and good vibes, some of the music is utterly sublime. Here's a couple of examples of things that get spins. Earl English & The Apaches Willie Wright
  20. Nice valve amp.
  21. A few really good nights in the Sunflower lounge.
  22. A couple of things in your blog write up Maryam; You mention not playing 'crossover or mainstream' soul. Just so you are aware, 'Crossover' is a genre of rare soul albeit a confusing moniker for a lot of people that has nothing to do with mainstream soul. Handbaggers are generally people who don't care what format the music is played on and the music will be very predictable overplayed tracks most of which will have been hammered to death during a few years at Wigan Casino. Handbaggers will pester the DJs for these same records all night. Unless your DJ's are playing off original label vinyl then your event, like it or not, will be a kind of handbag event. Personally it doesn't bother me and I reckon you are well placed to attract some youngsters from the lively, bar/club area of Digbeth into your bar and hopefully they will enjoy the music and vibe.
  23. Hope you've got a tin hat Maryam.
  24. Good luck to them. The Digbeth area in Brum is a very lively area for youngsters so it should certainly attract some of them away from the deluge of happy house clubs and Indie bars.
