Northern At Home V Northern Out And About
It is true. When I walked into the Village Soul do on Saturday, Lenny Curtis was blasting out and it sounded fantastic. It amy be that I hadn't heard it for years or just the first time I've heard it out, but it sounded much better. Btw, Kegsy, Do It To My Mind has always been a great record . Someone will now say that about Lenny Curtis

Village Soul Is Back
Well it was a cracking night. Great room, terrific sound system and some of the best music ever recorded!

Celebrity Death Soul Match (Author Apologises - Dodgy Idea ;0)
What happens when you got an odd one in round two? Surely you need 64 songs to make it a knock out competition?

Sapphires On Bbc World Service - Outlook 3Am Gmt
That's what i thought. It would be great to see a film about them with a soundtrack inculding Gotta Have Your Love, Slow Fizz, etc.

Street Soul And New Jack Swing Is It All Crap?
I was actually referring to Swingbeat rather than Street Soul Nick. Nothing wrong with Loose Ends, btw

Street Soul And New Jack Swing Is It All Crap?
Agree with Jock. Most swingbeat stuff was rubbish but you do get the occasional LP track which was great e.g. Jeff Redd — Love High, Keith Sweat — Make Love Last Forever.

Night Closers?
The Dome in London used to finish with Jimmy Ricks “Oh! What a Feeling” which always sounded good. Wasn’t the most used ender at These Old Shoes Jimmy Ruffin’s “Everyone Needs Love”?

Djing - Clear The Floor - Question
You haven’t got that aspect wrong Russ, but times have moved on. It is now 2012, technology and other ways of life have moved on considerably, the music is now over 40 odd years old and the format is almost dead (it’s incredible it’s lasted that long!). I agree with some of the things you say, but the way you’re expressing your view is alienating yourself and other like-minded people from most regular folk who already perceive it to be an “up its own arse” scene. Phrases like ethics and giving back to the scene make me cringe because it’s not life and death and it’s certainly not some worthy cause. It’s supposed to be fun! It may have felt like something cool and underground quite some time ago but it hasn’t been like that for a long time. It’s full of fat, middle-aged to old blokes who can’t dance very well. Nothing to stop them still having a good time. It’s become a parody of itself and all these indignant put downs of anyone who doesn’t share the same view, doesn’t help.

Soul Junction Finally Pop The Question
I think it was only a very small handful of collectors that made a fuss over Gregory Porter. And it was totally unwarranted too as the label design was different and Gregory is a living, working artist. I've got this 45 and it wouldn't bother me one jot if you issued more due to demand but I'm probably in an easy going minority. I don't recall any vitriol over not releasing an mp3 of Audio, but certainly comments were made. I still think it's a good idea for all your releases. It won't devalue the 45s, makes them more accessible, additional revenue for you and enables the likes of me to be able to listen to it more often.

Patti & The Emblems - Mixed Up Shook Up Girl . Boot Or Pukka
Herald. Great record!

Majestics Or David And Ruben
Majestics for the intro. I used to hate this record but have grown to love it now.

Black Box - Fall Into My Love
I agree with Jock!! JoLynn Murray - now there's a tune!

Who Was Otis Smith?
Thanks for your replies Gents. Only seven years later

Where To Start? Djing?
In terms of practice, it won't take long to master playing old 45s. It really doesn't get much easier. It's incredible how many people screw it up

Sad News Frank Wilson Has Died
RIP Frank. He wrote and produced many of the soul scene's favourites such as: Lenny Williams - Choosing You Renee Geyer - Be There In The Morning Eddie Kendricks - Girl, You Need a Change of Mind Alton McClain & Destiny - It Must Be Love I always loved his own "Sweeter As The Days Go By" too.

Sacked By Letter St Doms Newcastle Upon Tyne
It might be a bit daft, but it's also a bit daft publishing it on here and asking for opinions, rather than discussing it with him.
-
Manifesto Magazine
It's not been very good for a while. Bad printing, spelling mistakes, too many pages devoted to Australia with long lists of oldies played, etc. I quite like the Soul Jones articles and Fish's page. Soul Sam is also always good entertainment as is Tim Brown.

Maze And Frankie Beverley Question
Excellent record, but that is ridiculous. I would've thought it charted in the US (sold well anyway)

Northern Soul Dj......'sets'
No, they're supposed to have better records, taste, cueing skills and personality. Supposed to, anyway
-
Northern Soul Dj......'sets'
I like the DJ to surprise me and play something I wouldn't have thought of playing and hearing. It's all part of the fun of it. Anyway, you can't have different individuals selecting records, as they won't necessarily represent the majority.

Bobby Boyd 45! Out Today On Streetsoul Records.
One of my favourites!

Mrs Biggs
No it's not that. It's a well known 60s northern soul number with a piano introduction, followed by backing singers in the first ten seconds, I can't remember anything after that.
