Irene And The Scott's - I'm Stuck On My Baby
to us karl, who've been around for longer than we can remember, you're right...we can view it in that light, people will naturally chase a good record and if it's relatively common...eventually though, these copies dry up, vicious circle-like and we arrive at square one, not go back to it...it then becomes a required rarity, a realm it hasn't actually been in, but lets not forget the bigger picture here,...and ive stated this before...records are second only to antiques for collectability and we're only 60 years into the revelation that was r n' b, that became soul but overall, is referred to as "race" or black music. the irony is, above our cynisism about sheep, it's good to know that a good record is being held in such high esteem, that has been known and has been around for a long time, but never really got it's just desserts, so perhaps we should forgive the unknowing for any obsessing.

Irene And The Scott's - I'm Stuck On My Baby
yep, picked it up for that price last year...minter as well in company sleeve....probably was quite common until it got picked up in the quest to vary playlists...same thing has happened to another mercury/detroit project that robert bateman had a hand in, principly the chalfontes ( shal-fon-tays ) "he loves me" now zooming in price as well.

Irene And The Scott's - I'm Stuck On My Baby
great tune, awesome double sider,.....one of the best credited records, that is a who's who of detroit staff...robert kreinar (bob babbitt ), dennis coffey, mike theodore, micheal campbell & ray monet.....monatary worthiness pales into insignificance with the quality of this production.....and it's latter popularity is probably well overdue, despite the fact it's been there or thereabouts for a very long time ( played at the catacombs ).

can't comment enough about fabulous varied playlists at some tremendous venues across the uk....particularly love viewing the one's from here ( along with horse & groom, doncaster etc ) it's what makes the scene endure...people really do have a wide choice...surely, that's got to be a good thing? big up to paul & guests for keeping it real.

Posh Venues ..soul Nights
well, it's probably pretty obvious to most, but, the hilton hotel in blackpool has to be a contender, though ive not been to any of the luxury soul weekenders there myself, but always a good line-up of djs and top acts from the usa...i have actually been in the hotel though, rooms pretty pricey but quality!.

top recollection there steve, and what my mate pete said as well....it really is rich of some people on here and on facebook, to suggest that drugs were near invisible from the human eye..of course everyone's entitled to their opinion or we wouldn't have populist debate, but it makes me even more angry when it's coming from some people who i know and the way they have dismissed the film as a nonentity..i'll not mince words and i'll defend this film to the hilt...bloody hypocrits in total denial showing their true colours....crawl back in your holes, you are on the fringes and don't seriously get involved in the scene any longer, go back to your day jobs!

already commented on fb ian...so let's do it again here! simply can't stand down the plaudits bro...they just keep coming, this is a life affirming triumph for elaine and you all,..we knew for decades a representation had to be made, now it's well and truly stamped on the grey matter of very likeminded person who is willing to give the underdog his/her chance...those amongst the distributors who failed to believe...are now reaping the whirlwind as it makes them so acutely embarrassed by their total ignorance at something that has been staring them back in the face for over 4 decades, not discounting soul music's popularity in the 60's....REAL MUSIC - REAL DANCING......NOT TODAY'S AEROBICS AND X-FACTOR SHITE.....finally someone has learned what sensibility is, it's called northern soul, it's a template for life, to be proud of, as keb said " and you will be listening to it for the next hundred years"......rings true dosn't it?...even moreso now the platform has been established...the last 17-18 years the scene hasn't really been underground at all, in fact it's been clearly visible and sustaining huge growth...we can't over emphasize just how important this statement is..youth has finally begun to accept that this is a fundamentally acceptable way of life and is embracing it in droves, the film captures that essence for them...perfectly

"getting that record"....still as much a part of today as yesterday.. the tingle down the spine, the anticipation as you drop the diamond stylus in the groove, the frenetic movements as you're in full flow...then your mom opens the bedroom door and maybe you blush with embarrassment,...or..today, it's the wife saying: " oh no, not more BLOODY RECORDS?" my introductory moment came after my first week at work, july 1974, left school friday 12th...week later having thought i would get paid a week in lieu, to my surprise i got it there and then...so what did i do?....very naughty!, told my mom i hadn't got anything and went to max millward's on the following saturday morning with the princely sum of...get this,...EIGHT POUNDS! and blew the lot on records...can't remember them all, but i deffo got paul anka "cant help loving you" and laura green "moonlight, music and you "...which in those days would have cost £1 a time. that thrill is still there now as i approach 57,...god, will we ever learn?...the answer, quite simply, is NO!

i think i probably mean who's responsible for the marketing strategy, the distributors, universal really stepped in when no-one else showed any faith...if it's one and the same then they've shot theirselves in the foot if they thought it wouldn't conceive valuable remuneration, people in departments who simply don't understand the logic or popularity of this type of subject matter, deciding it merits a straight to dvd sale. these people obviously didn't count on or have any true awareness of just how in demand this film would be, and the subsequent ploy to get cinemas to show it, for which the response has been little short of staggering. that aside, i'm mightily impressed that such a giant of film production payed the project attention and saw it through.

karl, words fail me brother....you have so impressed me and almost moved me to tears...and we've only just been talking in the last half hour as well, celebrating your birthday...what a truly immense edict, wonderfully precise with poise and character...an undeniably glowing reference...you enjoyed the satisfaction as much as i did in going to see it a second time ( i was privilaged to be at the premier in blackburn ) as an aside to your comments, you'll be pleased to know, as elaine announced there, fran did see the finished product before she sadly passed away...she was so impressed...god bless her soul, god bless elaine...we entrusted our faith in her and she has delivered in the most monumental fashion.......every person who keeps the faith, loves the music, shares the brother and sisterhood that is the scene, should be eternally proud......the world of northern soul is undiminished, it is timeless and will have reverence for decades to come...the greatest subculture in living and future memory...it will never die as long as it is somebody's heart and soul......KEEP THE FAITH!.

tell you what ian, it makes your blood boil that so many people on this country just want an easy ride pity big brother dosn't exist to punish this crime, every single one of these low lifes are draining the energy & will of just people, like elaine who have put their own security on the line to achieve the success the film is having...perhaps it's not too late to drop on the knob heads at the top from a great height like a ton weight and go public in the criticism of how they have callously mishandled the whole affair...the only samaritan to my mind has been universal for stepping in to make the dream a reality, whilst all the other sodomites stepped aside with total disregard.....name and shame these bastards, then stand them against a wall and mercilessly shoot them all..

it is so bloody shameful...people who simply have no conscience...dosn't matter what sort of product though anyway.....the internet was deemed a wonder, that also is demonized because of the dark corners people create with it...the good the bad and the truly ugly...perhaps our film industry had an agenda even?.....perhaps they didn't want it to succeed, because like the media, they've never understood what it's all about, so they want to stick the knife in wherever they can...a bunch of childish tossers minus genuine grey matter...i know i'm summizing but somebody has to be held to account for an act of gross betrayal of the principle that a film should be allowed it's due on the big screen...EXACTLY WHERE IT'S MEANT TO BE......they obviously thought it wouldn't do much at the box office, and it's shut those miserable f***in b******s up so the next spoiler is to do exactly what they've done...and on top of that, a multi million bunch of freebie lovers with tight wallets are robbing the people responsible for all the hard work of their dues.

i really think Elaine has nailed it...the detail was as precise as it's ever gonna get when you've spent every god given hour researching for countless years. i'd like to make a pertinent observation of our characteristics as people from different counties with different dialects...and it's a behavioral one. i went, last night ( 19/10/14 ) to watch the film again, this time at the wonderful art deco majestic cinema in Bridgnorth. wanted to catch the atmosphere prior to the dvd release, as only cinema can really deliver on that. i would estimate between 100-130 people turned up to watch it, on what was it's third showing over the weekened. there were certain elements, who at various times during the screening were boisterous and noisy but on the whole enjoying it and there was a warm round of applause at the finish, though somewhat abbreviated...different strokes?...having attended the premier at Blackburn some 3 weeks ago now, i reflected on the fact that, it's a film about northern folk and northern life..in a northern town. i have to say that there was a rapturous applause for Elaine when she introduced the film and throughout, the screening was observed with virtual stony silence apart from moments that were intended to encourage laughter or shock. upon conclusion, the film received a standing ovation, that's a lump in the throat and a tear in the eye stuff as far as i'm concerned personally...something i have not seccumbed to since the funk brothers documentary. it therefore.would be interesting to hear what people's reactions where across the u.k., not just their views of the film's credibility afterwards.
