  1. There were definitely two different runs of each Soul King release one pink the other red. Both pressings have slightly different layouts as well information such as credits and recorded dates. Don't know which ones came first, but I ordered mine when they were first mentioned circa 1991 and mine are pink.
  2. I would love to believe that it’s a genuine vintage pressing, but there are a few things don’t stack up for me. With no singles released at the time of the LP, why wait 4 years to release a solitary single. After touring with the Raelets, she left Ray Charles and toured with the Harry James Orchestra and then worked with Mike Post releasing singles on Bell in early 70’s as herself and Rye and Rita Jean. Surely she would have had commitments, would she have done any promotion for her new Tangerine single? The Tangerine releases I have from 1972 onwards (both issues and demos) have the year of release on the label, this one doesn’t. Also from 72 onwards Tangerine demos were quite prolific, but there no demo for this release.
  3. To my knowledge, there was only one issue of this, which was a Demo in 2002, to help publicize the Timeless CD.
  4. They're an Israeli band
  5. John Reed replied to a post in a topic in Record Wants
Oh, its not that bad, its quite a nice pop record. Nothing to do with soul, though
  6. There were one or two exceptions; G C Cameron's No Need To Explain/Out Of My Mind, IMO was one of the best Soul vinyl releases of 1992.
  7. I've always believed the Crescent release to be a reissue. The Federal release is 1966 and Crescent records (later rebranded as Creed) was not formed until 1967. Initially, it does seem odd for the Swanee Quintet who historically recorded on Nashboro, to switch to a King related label for a one-off release and then switch back to the Nashboro subsidiary Crescent. Around this time the Swanee Quintet were on a bit of a low ebb and as they were important to James Brown musically, he included them on his touring revue as a pay-back for the inspiration he got from them as a young man. It's produced by James Brown and the writing credits are James Brown related, so I believe this was his way of him giving them back some dues. The record failed to re-spark interest in the group and Ruben Willingham left the quintet soon after, which is why I think his name is missing from the later Crescent release. Crescent's first LP release in 1967 was Step By Strep by the Swanee Quintet and both sides of the single are included on it.
  8. It happened to me a few years ago when I paid Chris Anderton for a record. I too had money in my account and had a debit card linked up as well. I felt quite embarrassed as I received the record before the eCheque cleared and its the only time that its happened to me.
  9. Don't think so, I thought Little Milton's I'm a Gambler was Malaco's last vinyl LP release a year earlier
  10. All the demo's I've seen have been double sided, including the variant with the blue Volt logo
  11. The 12's over 7 minutes long, so probably a bit too long for inclusion in a Northern set. Plus there is the 7" attraction.
  12. There was a consensus that the Etta James on Flying Witch was a spoof label for youtube. If you want it on vinyl, best to buy the recent Chess northern soul box set.
  13. Ace tried a similar thing a while back with their "Singles Club", but that seems to have died a death, probably due to a lack of interest.
  14. He cut a single on Warners called Peek-A-Boo b/w Sunshine, which is a nice laid back track. He was also lead on the three Five Flights Up singles on TA
  15. Bump.... Surely someone has this rubbish record, that's taking up valuable space on their shelves? Cheers, John
  16. It's a fabulous track, but think its download only
  17. Hi, I'm after a copy of Sam Baker - It's All Over / I Love You - Sound Stage 7 SS7-2636 (issue). Minimum EX+ No requests for offers, please state the amount you want. Cheers, John
  18. Sometimes there wasn't a uniform template so different pressing plants had different designs. Regarding the "Plug Side", "Long And Lonely World" was the official A-Side. If you look at the plate number LALW is VO-0189-PL whereas City Of Fools is VO-0190-PL
  19. Are you asking about his Pzazz release? If so; The text "Delainieur Music (BMI)" on the boot its on the left hand side, on the original its on the right hand side The pressing number "(G-272)" on the boot its on the left hand side under the above text, on the original its on the right hand side under the time The Address "6725 Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, Calif" is on the left hand side on the original and isn't on the boot On the original the Arrangement credits are above the productions credits, its vise versa on the boot
  20. Also the Represses have the beveled edge and the originals have a straight edge
  21. I think its a pressing anomaly as I've only seen a black version of the Phillips Sisters - Where Did You Stay Last Night, which is the next release and I've only seen the old green version of Billy Williams - Too Much, which is the release after that and kept the same green design for the next two releases.
  22. Don't think there is one, as I'm So Happy is the B-side of If it Ain't Love, It'll Go Away. The only demo's I've seen are S/S mono/stereo of "If It Ain't Love..."
  23. Although it doesn't say it on Popsike page, that copy was VG- I think there may have been some sort of label printing error as all the one's I've seen; the "$S" in their name is on the "Smoke In The Disco" side and spelt with an "S" or a $S on the "Daylight" side.
  24. Not to put a downer on things, but real w/demos are mono/stereo whereas the w/demo boots are mono/mono
  25. Tracks Of Your Mind by Sounds Of Lane is actually the B-side of the CB 713 release. The A-side is George McCannon My My Mama.
