  1. ....and here he is! There's also his version of the Buckinghams Northern tune....
  2. PM'd you regarding Laura Lee.
  3. Soul-slider posted a post in a topic in Record Sales
    PM'd you Dave.
  4. Cheers for Nina Simone info. Heard Huey Smith & The Clowns being played here in East Anglia, heard it a few times and it got a release on Kent UK in 1983 so it would have been around that time. Peterborough, Norwich, Cambridge.
  5. Thought Nina Simone was 1962? Anyway, here's one I remember used to get played early 80's... Huey Piano Smith - Don't You Just Know It (1958)
  6. Be interesting to hear her version, she wrote it so it stands to reason she recorded it.
  7. Possibly unissued / unreleased and he had it on an acetate?
  8. That is fantastic! If it's OK Derek I've put your info on 45cat and a link to this thread. Hope that's fine, if not please let me know and I will delete it. Here's the link to the post https://www.45cat.com/record/pxm10&rc=1152591#1152591
  9. This one by Darin D'Anna played on the Northern scene by all accounts. Hash Brown & Orchestra backing on 'World Artists' same as with Gerri Thomas. 1965
  10. There's also this 45 which is a version of the Commotions on Blue Rock and Colly Williams.
  11. Flip side is a soulful ballad, not bad.
  12. Just reminded me of this LP which I own, great and some good Northern on it. 'Just You Wait', 'Sound Of The City', 'It's Been A Long Long Time'.
  13. Blackpoolsoul is correct. Danny Monday was Daniel Peil. I posted this photo and some info over on Facebook last week or so. I also posted this photo on Discogs under the Danny Monday listing... Danny Peil was vocalist in a psych/rock band during the late 60's called 'The Corporation'. They had 3 albums out during 1969-1970.
  14. Thanks for the tip, just listened to Doris Duke 😍
  15. I did the same, I got it on M.M.C first then got one on Independence for £5 or thereabouts, sold that one soon after for £25, guess I should have held on to it just a little longer! I did pay £30 for an almost mint demo of Invitations - Watch Out Little Girl just before it got in-demand.
  16. PM'd - re Boy Friday
  17. Yes, I agree. BTW I got my copy of the Monzas direct from the lead singer, Al Wilkes.
  18. Hi Robb, Maybe you have an answer to this? Discogs have linked Mike Williams to Jimmy Williams who were in a rock/beat group during 1965/6 called 'The Playboys Of Edinburg'. Later, the brothers formed a country outfit called 'The Younger Brothers'. As you can probably work out, these are white musicians. However, as Mike Williams also had a 45 out on 'King' which is a James Brown production, I have my doubts! Begs the question: if Mike is a white guy... 'Vietnam Through The Eyes Of Black America'.??

There is another band called The Magnificent Seven (notice the change from '7'). They are also a white group and released a good Northern 45 on 'New Groove'.

I actually posted that photo of the Magnificent 7 on Discogs. It comes from a picture sleeve of them when they were called The Temptashuns...
  21. I heard this record by The Chapters and was blown away! I think it has massive 'Northern' potential. Obviously blue-eyed, it's not in Manship's guide or even in TeenBeat Mayhem (US Garage/slight Northern Discography). I just wondered whether it was known on the scene? Might not be everyone's cuppa but those who like stuff like The Chevrons (Love, I Love You) or 7 Dwarfs 'Stop Girl' will like it. I've never seen one for sale.
  22. I remember hearing it out, in fact I bought it as a 'Northern Soul' tune, probably around 1980.
  23. Found this, ties in with Blackpoolsoul's clipping, this is the 'Airtown' group. 7 members including 2 brothers...
