Blue-eyed Soul?
Thanks for sharing this sad news about Johnny Daye. I had missed his passing. That is an excellent article, lots of detail on his life that fills in lots of blanks.

Blue-eyed Soul?
I have never though it was a black artist singing. Although it is undoubtedly sung from the soul and has deep meaning (I think ). Black artists have covered many rock and pop songs over the years . Just imagine the first time you ever heard Whiter Shade Of Pale is was Aretha singing , or maybe Stevie would be a better fit, would you conisder it a soul record? It gets difficult. As it happens in my case the term blue-eyed soul immediately conjures up songs that are typically of a light pop soul confection. But it's not as simple as that. I see Rod Stewart got a mention up thread A good shout for someone who I think has buckets of soul (particularly anything in his catalogue before the mid 70s). Also I must mention the Average White Band. In my opinion they had more soul and funk in their bones than many black groups (and much as I love and respect James Brown I thought when he recorded as AABB that was a bit disrespectful). Sir Shambling has a great article on his site which incidentally includes the Average White Band in his list of 25 blue eyed soul winners. Pete Nickols follows up on it too. https://www.sirshambling.com/articles/blue_eyed_soul/index.php https://www.sirshambling.com/articles/brown_eyed_soul/index.php In John's list he also includes Johnny Daye - Stay Baby Stay which is certainly no light pop soul confection.

Bunny sigler
Had a similar wtf moment a couple of years ago when I heard Bettye Swann My Heart Is Closed For The Season in a local cafe/restaurant. I asked how they chose the music, they said they were centrally compiled playlists. Thos playlists were quality over the next few months.

Brothers of soul I'd be grateful
Wouldn't the mis-spelt "I'd Be Greatful" be the first issue, which was then corrected on further issues?

Anybody ever find out what happened here? Feeling nostalgic. It was a good source.

Alfreda Brockington - Phil La Of Soul
This is a 2nd issue. As stated above the 2nd Issue had an R after the matrix number. Also the song title (and to a degree the artist name) are in much bigger fonts on the original issue. btw it's the B side that does it for me, and for that the 2nd issue might be the one to get because I don't think it fades so quickly.

I do it all the time and there is no blur (nothing fancy - a very old Fuji Finepix camera with flash and auto setting).

Ebay Now Including Import Charges In Listings ?
I am really missing buying records from the US. Haven't indulged since the US postage hike in January, and recent talk of Global Shipping Program debacle and customs tightening up have not helped. Also, your comment could easily be simply edited down to "Bollocks to ebay its gone down the tubes" - taking commission on P&P value is another worrying step too far.

Did All Uk Pressed 45S Have Centers?
This is a staged shot isn't it? Note the switch is in the off position so the idler would have been disengaged and the platter wouldn't be spinning. (Dim and distant memories were stirred yesterday when I was trying to work out why a BSR deck wasn't working).

News: Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures Ranked 1-100
Waiting now for this CD! Re the top 100, these would have to be in my top 10: Roszetta Johnson - Who You Going To Love (what an arrangement!) RIP Roszetta Doris Duke - I Don't Care Anymore (the lyrics! - Swampdogg at the top of his game) Jaibi - You Got Me Eddie & Ernie (not sure which one though!)

Stax/volt The Best Of The Companies Xover And Northern Soul Releases
Thanks Mick re that Joni Wilson thread on Soul Detective - that was actually Red Kelly taking up my original question (with my blessing) that I had posted on my blog a few years ago now! Red usually gets a lot of response to his "burning questions" but in this instance there was virtually no response at all.

Stax/volt The Best Of The Companies Xover And Northern Soul Releases
And it is The Parliaments "All Your Goodies" as the backing track, with Joni singing isn't it? Anybody know anything about Joni Wilson? Manship site says it was Joyce Vincent Wilson who was in the group Dawn. Is that definitely true?

Monster Ballads Hiding On B-Sides Of Northern Classics
A few not mentioned yet I think (dancer/known side in brackets): Josephine Taylor - Depend On Me (Smooth Groove) (Right now this would get my vote for the greatest deep track ever and this was the A Side) Alfreda Brockington - I'll Wait For You (Chained & Bound) (just a shame this one fades a bit too quick, it's about 15 seconds longer on the reissue I think) Tyrone Davis - A Woman Needs To Be Loved (Can I Change My Mind) (was the A side when initially released - I have it on a solid black Dakar label - flipped after a few months)

Bessie Banks - Undocumented Track?
Well it certainly wouldn't rip up a storm on any dancefloor, it's a slowie - but I like it. Follow the link in my starting comment and there's a link to an mp3

Bessie Banks - Undocumented Track?
I have only ever seen Bessie Banks on Quality 508 referred to as a demo with "Baby You Sure Know How To Get To Me" on both sides. Even soulfulkindamusic has it only listed as a demo on it's discography of Bessie Banks. I have just acquired an issue of this release with "Do You Really Want To Be Right?" on one side, "Baby.." on t'other. I wonder has anybody else got/seen an issue copy? https://darcysfeelit.blogspot.com/2011/02/hens-tooth.html
