Even though it was a promo only release (for Detroit Mayor Coleman Young) - it doesn't seem to go for much money- I've never seen a copy sell for over $200 USD. I would think many of the early Tamla releases (Satintones, Nick and the Jaguars, Barrett Strong "Let's Rock" etc.) and the Supremes "I Want A Guy" on Motown #1008, and the Miracles "Bad Girl" on Motown G1/G2 would be much rarer.

A promo in vg condition sold for $128.50 about a month ago.
  3. Pearl was the owner of the Pearltone label. Freddy was her husband Fred Johnson. He co-wrote Maxine Browns' "All In My Mind" along with Leroy Kirkland and Maxine.
  4. According to the liner notes of "The Sue Records Story- The Sound Of Soul" (1994), Pearl was working with her husband's ministry in Arlington, Texas.
  5. It worked for me but.... it only played "Little Baby" .
  6. The Chymes 45 is "Dancing Shoes"/ "I've Lost" on Teako #784. There's also a Ray Pettis 45- "Question and Answer"/ "If I Found A Love" - Teako 4770. There's probably more but their release #'s (4770, 784, 370 and 747) don't seem to have any reason to them so it's hard to tell.
  7. Gladys Knight and the Pips did a great version on their "Feelin' Bluesy" album. The Isleys version of "That's The Way.." was recorded between August 26 and August 30th, 1966. Marvin's version was recorded between Nov. 30th, 1968- Dec. 6, 1968.
  8. Every promo copy of the Du-Ettes on collector's frenzy uses the label design I posted. Also not all M-Pac 45's have a date on them - M-Pac #7201(blue label) - Harold Burrage- "Master Key", M-Pac #7204- Harold Burrage- "I'll Take One" and M-Pac #7210 - "That's A Friend" have no month or year for the copyright date on the label.
  9. Is this a reissue too ??
  10. Some Mar-V -Lus 45's have this for a copyright date ...
  11. That was how the U.S. Philips label looked in the 70's. It was used for reissues and new releases. Here's another one...

The song is "For The Love Of Mike" by Patrice Holloway. It was recorded in February, 1965 and was unreleased. It's available on "This Is Northern Soul Volume 2" (Debutante) or "Love And Desire- The Patrice Holloway Anthology" (Ace / Kent). I don't think it was released legitimately on vinyl.
  13. Another strange thing is that on the blue label copy, the publisher is now Sherlyn which is associated with the T.K. group of labels (Cat, Drive, Alston etc. etc.)
  14. It's hard to say. Less than a month ago , a copy with no cover in vg+ / vg++ went for $59.
  15. A copy with a near mint cover and vg+ disc went for $32 a few weeks ago.
  16. Doni Burdick was born Don Dominguez. I'm guessing he is Hispanic or part Hispanic.
  17. "(True Love Is) In The Heart" was unreleased until it appeared on the "Kent 30 - Best Of Northern Soul " CD in 2012.
  18. It was probably due to marketing- when the album was first released in 1962, the title was a good selling point. As the years went on, the title dated the album.

Monica's single "It's The Real Thing" was written by "M Higgins. A. Brown". The A. Brown is most likely Alex Brown but the M. Higgins could be either Monk or Monica Higgins. The song was published by Special Agent Music/ East Memphis. Monk Higgins did the arrangements for the song.
  20. He also co-wrote one of the biggest Northern songs of all time- "You Didn't Say A Word" by Yvonne Baker.
  21. Sharon Tandy also released "Love Makes The World Go Round" on Mercury U.K.
  22. The TY5-56957 is the phone number. In the 60's and backwards, the instead of saying the phone number is 895-6957 the operator would say something like "Tyson5-6957". Not sure when the phone company stopped doing this. Not sure why they did this in the first place either.
  23. The seller describes "At My Front Door" as an "original U.S. pressing on red vinyl " and someone paid over $5700 for it- I would hope it's an original. I've never seen an "Up On The Mountain" on red vinyl but it's listed as existing in this format.
