I just sold one on here for £150.00 which raised some comments, Mark Speakman Funky Feet Records listed one for the same a couple of days ago, some seem to think it's a £30/40.00 record back in the day it was a tenner or less so who knows? perhaps a case of the record finally getting a few spins pushing the price up as demand increases, thought I did really well at £150.00 but $300.00 seems a little steep....record collecting madness don't we just love it lol

I guess the old chestnut apply's here that a record is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it? don't agree with The Magicians comment though Pete, not actually an oldie as it never went that big in the first place but it is a quality record.

Thanks guys, about time I had a bargain and I paid £20 for mine just a couple of years ago.

I've been playing it out at every opportunity, otherwise haven't heard it much.

I guess like everything it's supply and demand. Nice to know I got in early for once!

I was happy to pay £20 for it and would have probably gone to 3x that depending on availability. I hardly ever go by price guides, and never by

whoever else is playing it, but just decide how much I rate a tune personally and then try and find it.

Sometimes you've just GOT to have it I guess.

Yes, but no, but yes...but Johnny Howard for example always was "rarer" as 45s like the Dealers. The Dealers -a great 45 no doubt- is never ever rare enough to justify anything more then 50 UKP top IMO. Even when I was young this 45 was still around in quantities and used to demand 5 UKP...

Jimmy Soul Clark "Tell Her"...another timeless Rare Soul 45 that was (and to my knowledge still is) 5 UKP...wonder who will re-activate this and what price tag it will then demand LOL!

I agree with you Pete, sheep mentality. Ringleaders must be about in greater quantity than the dealers yet commands £250 every time just because it fills the floor. Who's playing this to make the price go up? I've been spinning it for a couple of years or so but I wouldn't think I have that effect on prices, probably the opposite

And there are loads of in demanders that are not really that rare that have shot right up .................... and real hard tunes that have gone through the ceiling.

Not over £150.00 I sold it for £150.00 Pete is partly right here as my original investment on this record was nothing like that as it was a pretty easy record to obtain a bit back, if JM has 4 copies left, Mark Speakman offered one up for sale just after mine went, one on Ebay just sold well you do the math here, very much demand seems to have pushed this up over true rarity or so it would seem.

OK, have you ever heard of Mick Smith, long standing record dealer and dj. I asked him this morning if he could sell me a copy of The dealers and he says what do you want that crap for, so I said was just asking, he said ok whats that, 15 quid? I said yeah, it should be.

I repeat, anyone paying more than £30 for it needs to sort their life out.

All of a sudden, will it become a new top sound for everyone and jump up to a hundred quid overnight just because Butch played it? This is the problem, The Flairs, The Dealers, these are just not rare records, they may be good but they are not worth anything. So after 3 spins, Cut Your Motor Off is now worth £100 and all the divs and sheep are after a copy. Anyone with any knowledge knows it's worth no more than 10 or 15 quid. And thats why 'we' can't accept The Dealers will be anything but an around-in-quantity box filler.

It has always been the same way on the Northern scene with DJs bringing demand / prices up hasn't it.

And I do understand your view on the 45 not being that rare

I suppose we just watch what happens to the availability and price of the dealers as the tune gets popular.

I mean your Roy Hamilton cracking up demo is another 45 that lives on sales lists for 100 quid - there are thousands

of them in this country - it just has that price cause it is a popular oldie.

I've played it out pretty regular Kenny and it packed the floor at two Radcliffe nighters I've DJ'ed at!

Obviously too many people about with too much money & no imagination.

Same thing happened with Little Archie. I bought a mint demo couple of years ago for 20quid just before it went mad 50/60/75/100 even saw one at 150. Saw one a couple of weeks ago back down to 30 which is fairly unusual these days as it seems when a record hits that ridiculous high price it then becomes the norm.
