Bought my copy of Nine Times many years ago at Clifton Hall.Thing is mine is like the one here and all the others i've ever seen have a blue label.Is mine a later issue or just a different label design.The guy who owned it first has written the date 6/01/1976 along with the words OK FAST.

remember having one of these.....id say it was a first issue, just that they'd changed the label design and i reckon they hit on that one after the design of the moments "sharp" lp...yes?, prior to that of course, it was the familiar dual-blue colour.

I have a question relating to this record i have the blue one but it seems different to all the other blue ones in so much as the pictures seem to reflect the light when photographed,which indicates they are possibly glossy labels, mine is paper the others have ST5066A on the right mine is on the left all the others have engineered by allan tucker at the bottom of the disc mine hasnt its has it on the left of the record. Mine was sold as an original, so is this the case or is mine a freak.

Thats the first issue as far as I know, but as stated, they just redesigned the label

Original issue is two shade blue. The label shown above is the design they used for the last few releases and came later as it replaced the two tone blue label…..Sorry. But don't think is much too much later, maybe as little as a couple of months when they did re-presses.

They must have run them simultaneously Steve, I bought that when it was being imported and played and it was definitely the orange one.  I think.

maybe it's an east coast / west coast thing like happens with other labels

The Moments was 5066, both two tone blue and orange ones exist for 5066, 5067, 5068, 5069 and 5070. Then the following releases were just orange (and demos white of course).

Also, that scan at the top, that has a date of June 1st on it, well I went to the Casino in April and it was being played then, I know that because it was on the first ever tape I recorded there along with Little Joe Cook, Marion Love, Joey Dee etc...strange that it has a date at least two months after that

Pete with records like that it would have been re-pressed to meet demand. Maybe an initial run of 10,000, then another 20,000, then another 20,000 that type of thing to meet demand. It's logical that that's where the orange label comes in since all prior releases were two tone blue.

It could but was thinking it was using the USA way of writing the date

it was the first ever 12' single I ever had my hands on, got it off Steve Sales [  'Siz ' ], another good Stretford lad.

 

Thought it was a wonderful exciting gimmick [ 12' singles ], but that they were hardly ever likely to catch on !

 

The extended version spot on !

But this is the old style 12' with [ maybe ] just an extra wee bit ; not the magical but extremely lengthy morales / moulton type thingies that came along later taking 3 mins up to 9 mins +.

And I'm a big fan of those too; don't let me be misunderstood [ as Eric would say ].

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing copies on both coloured labels when it was a new release so I assume they were pressed at roughly the same time.

Usually the explanation would be that one of several plants used different coloured label backgrounds, sometimes for no particular reason but sometimes to identify copies being shipped to a particular distributor.

 

But in this case they had just changed the logo design and colour of the Stang labels from blue tinted backgrounds to red tinted backgrounds (I think 'Do What You Feel' was the first) so the most likely explanation for the different labels on 'Nine Times' is that they wisely decided to use up some of the old label background stock - they would have had many thousands of them.

 

It would save money but it would also enable them to press more copies quicker to satisfy any demand.

The UK 45rpm issue is certainly longer - more sax at the end and suchlike - still rather have a US copy though. Incidentally I bought mine the week after hearing it at the Mecca and it was a pink label. So I'm thinking both designs were used from the off.

12" was UK only I think released through Soul Peepers who were responsible for all the Polydor output at the time If memory serves me it was just over 4mins long, never saw a US 12 of it and I can't think what album it originated from definitely a Ritz Cracker though

According to Discogs 4:35 long with the Rimshots on the flip. Nice!

I've got a demo and an issue of this, it's one of my fave 70's records ever.

 

The demo is the same design as the two tone blue (but white obviously), so I would expect that it was the earlier press? 

Bought the same copy from Alan Fearnly in Middlesbrough the week it came out. It was also vinyl whereas blue label ones I have had were styrene

It was Steve, I remember thinking they'd missed the boat with that one (and also not releasing I've Got The Need off the Moments lp despite overwhelming demand for it)

Yep, it is. It's actually something of a UK Holy Grail 12" for many 12" collectors. Very few and far between. I can't imagine what the pressing run was.....

No, this one was a very sparse mailout and only went to a limited few apparently. It was hard to get at the time - I was actually on Phonogram UK's DJ list at the time and I didn't get one. Took me a fair while to coax one out of a friend.....

Yes indeed young Gareth ..... Very highly. Im pretty sure it was Tony Rounce who discovered this gem lurking in the vaults. He sent it to me back when it came out.It's brilliant I think

I also have the 12" of Nine Times. Never realised it was such a rarity.....

The date stamp in many cases is just when someone, like a radio station received it, not the date the company sent the records out…..but I know you know that.

While were here, i have this copy (darker blue) which is different to the the more often seen lighter lable, mine has  cat number on the opposite side darker in colour and engineered by on the left not at the bottom, i havnt seen any others like this one so is it a boot or is it indeed an original, curious more than anything, plus the fact its been indicated to me its not an original .

Well it's certainly not a boot, this record never came in a million miles of being booted.  That's the previous Stang label to the red one.

Original just using up old labels......when a smallish label like All Platinum gets a hit they'd pull out all the stops, use various pressing plants around the country, whatever they can find to get the thing out to the distributors before the demand wanes...

Hi , I had one of the 12" Soul peeper UK releases (?)which I played at the time,

which I bought from a local store.Unfortunately ,stolen from me,If anyone has it I stamped it with a rubber stamp "demonstration copy" , check yours ,love to know where it ended up......

Note, had a bright pink cover from what I remember
