soulbrother61
Probably the worst £70 (x2) that i have ever spent, Fri nite only a few hundred in attendance,Sat daytime maybe 50 or so,Sat nite busy (ish) usual "joker" or 2 on the dancefloor in full " regalia" as for the DJs in this day in age when we can send men to the moon you would think that they could devise a system that would let them know what previous DJs had played, not in this case 3 djs in a row played 3 records from previous DJs set , didn't hang about for Sunday shift, enough is enough.....time to try elsewhere PS to Goldsoul drop your over inflated prices for this venue Link to comment
Andy Reynard
Have to agree with all youve said, came home early ourselves, quite dissapointed, but still, a lot of folk were happy judging by the dancefloor which seemed full most of the time ,nice to catch up with old mates, Hope Whitby is a lot better fingas crossed. Anais nin Carms
It's a shame you didn't do Sunday afternoon because for me that was the best of the weekend This event was very much in the shadow of the Royal wedding and such fab weather , I would guess that many chose to enjoy both these events as they are in such rare supply in this country in April. We hung around Manchester Friday Morning and did the northern Quarter 40's street Party which was a great spectical , many dressed up , then after lunch we mooched over to Blackpool late friday afternoon. The day was thrilling the excitement of it with the wedding and all that sapped on our energy levels so we only popped into the tower for an hour late on Friday. It was glorious day Saturday we spent the morning breakfasting and shopping and then spent the afternoon chilling out at the end of the North pier in the sheltered Carosel bar with a deck chair and a beer or two , where you are surrounded by a sort of conservatory , it was blazing . We had only planned to stay an hour but it was so nice we stayed for the afternoon and evening , It was very surreal with Karioki hearing Browny sing Mac the knife and Karati Bob doing the shoo doobi doo's , later joined by Ginger & Christine . I would guess many did this on Saturday. I would say I agree the crowd was nowhere as big as is normal at this event , but those that were there dancing looked well happy. Myself I like my tunes on the more rare side and for me the best was Sunday afternoon where I found myself at one point being the only dancer to Richards Searlings set. I would have to say I relish it when I see not too many in because the Dj can play anything , he has nothing to risk and throws caution to the wind which I personally find very exciting. Richard played something I diodn't know which sounded so good I could not resist getting up to it , you don't have to know them to dance them they just need to have a great dance beat. I regret missing Bob Hindsley's set I heard it was exceptional , I did enjoy Colins set from blaconey , something I have never done before , sit upstairs where the air is cooler and the sound is so much better where you can look down on the dancers and spot the best dancers. we must have looked like those old muppets picking our choice for best dancer award. I would have to agree there was no getting away from the fact that the numbers were down , but there was enough there to party if you wanted to. I always like to look at things with a glass half full rather than half empty. One chap was so great to watch on Sunday , he acted every sound he was dancing to and did some amazing spins ! I said to Browny I will be the only dancer to RL Burnside.... glad to report I was wrong. I so enjoyed hearing Pucker up buttercup as an alternative Jnr Walker sound , I get fed up of hearing aint that the truth and Tune up ( yes I know they are great tunes , but there are so many other great Jnr walker tracks ) .... good choice Browny ... shotgun next time ! We had a laugh ballroom dancing to Thrill the moment , well it was more a suedehead smooch really not knowing how to walz. We had our come dancing moment lol We have to also take into consideration that times are hard, that was a very expensive bank holiday to get through for most . Some even went away for their hols I would guess with being able to take the three addditional middle days and easter enabled them to have virtually two weeks off. I would have to say Blackpool is changing , lots of money being spent on it , should look great by November . I do feel sorry for those young lads though , being chased by so many tribal type women on the streets sailers , togas , firewomen , camoflage trouts and all that , they are very scary , talk about the female hunter theory coming into fruition ..... must be hard being a man nowadays but thats another thread. I would like to see a pack of Audrey Hepburns , less is more ! Edited May 2, 2011 by Carms Link to comment

Goldsoul
Firstly thanks for attending. As promoters, we are driven by the Tower's management decisions. The major facelift and current scaffolding around the building did not help. Bank Holiday's are no longer what they were in terms of attendances. 800 passed through the door's. A very low figure for us. I can assure you though for November, we are heading for 2,000 plus as usual. We will be promoting another event around the same time next year but with shorter hours and a cheaper ticket price. The Sunday night session was probably the best of all in our opinion. A few things against this one overall....Royal Wedding, Glorious Weather throughout the North West, Major construction around the building. Sometimes these things happen. Try November 11-13.....a very different tale indeed. Thanks to everyone who made the trip. Link to comment

Guest DANCER DI
OUR 1ST TIME AT THE TOWER W/ENDER, YEA WE WERE TOLD BY REGULARS THAT THE NUMBERS IN NOVEMBER ARE ALOT MORE THE MUSIC WAS VERY GOOD THOUGH THROUGHOUT & PLENTY OF DANCING ROOM.....I THOUGHT SATURDAY NIGHT WAS THE BUSIEST....SOMEHOW FOR ME IT LACKED THE ATMOSPHERE OF THE JULY WHITBY W/ENDER.......? SEARCHING BAGS ON THE DOOR WAS A BIT MUCH, ALL NIGHTS ?! IF THE BAR PRICES WERE BETTER THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS ?? 1ST TIME WEVE BEEN THE "ONLY ONES" FROM NOTTS AT A WEEKENDER ??? DIDNT KNOW ANYONE OTHER THAN THE DJ'S..... GO ABROAD EVERY NOVEMBER, SO WONT BE ABLE TO COMPARE......BUT HAVE M8S GOING SO I'M SURE THEY WILL BE TELLING ME !! Link to comment

Souledtrafford
Obviously can't please everyone all the time, but those who go know what to expect before they part with their money. My wife and I attend the November Weekender as well, but I have to say that last weekend was more enjoyable than the Saturday night last year - at least there was space to dance!! The bag searches didn't do much good, as the couple sitting front of us on the Saturday night had two water bottles filled with vodka, while I noticed another couple with a small bottle of the same on the Sunday. Prices at the bar were not actually too bad, as we paid more in a local club where I did a dj spot the previous Sunday. Moving on, can't understand why there is so much bickering on the Northern Soul scene. If it is not a venue , then it is the sounds - no cd's, only original vynil, or something else. Surely it is about the music and people enjoying themselves full stop. Link to comment
Geoffp
Couldnt agree more.So numbers were down- but really what do people expect when there is unbroken sunshine, endless bank holidays and the odd royal wedding going on. Go to dance, listen to music and socialise with like minded people and you ll enjoy it.Go out to moan and you wont. Those who stayed until the end know how good it really was-Sean Chapman take a bow-magnificent. Link to comment
