coops
we're nicknaming this event "Mid-Tempo Tuesday" because it's inspired by the ethos of the Mid-Tempo Tuesday radio show that goes out on South Holland Radio (https://shradio.co.uk) on Tuesday evenings. ALL genre to be covered, northern, cross-over, modern even a wee bit of RnB but...... here's the rub...... they'll ALL be Mid-Tempo. Now, that doesn't mean they will all sound the same, not by any means, because ALL genre will be covered we're just leaving out 100 mph stuff, mainly for two reasons.... 1) there's enough 100 mph venues around to satisfy that need 2) some of us (quite a few really) love Mid Tempo Soul and it often suits us old bugger's pace of dance more than the fast & furious does. 7:30 / 01:00 at the Grantham Squash & Raquet club Sat 30th April : £5 OTD hosts: BARRY COOPER (A1 Soul Club) MICK COOPER (originator of the Mid Tempo Tuesday radio show) guests: STEVE 'JAY' JACKSON ANDY 'TATS' TAYLOR & CHRIS FORREST if you like yours on the mellow side, c'mon in, close the door and dance. Geoff
This sounds interesting. I enjoyed the Club Caliente last Friday particularly because a lot of mid tempo was played. Therefore will put this in my diary. Is it a Bank Holiday weekend? Would probably stay overnight, so what's the situation with hotels (reasonable prices) or B&Bs in Grantham? Are there trains from London to Grantham? I do like uptempo sounds but they quickly knacker me these days. Link to comment

Hi Geoff There are frequent trains from London Kings Cross to Grantham, takes just over a hour, Grantham station is 10min walk from venue or 2 min taxi ride, there is a Premier Inn right across the road from the Squash club (but it does get booked up quickly) also a Ramada Hotel around the corner, plenty of B&B's nearby, lets us know if you need any further information. I know how you feel about uptempo tunes these days. Barry Link to comment

coops
some of the dee-jays @ grantham (from my perception) first up on 30th april is MIDGE. midge lives in lincoln and i've known him for a few years now. he has a passion for soul music specially mid-tempo. i know he loves the just soul events and he often sends me sound files of the highest order of tunes i've never heard of. we had midge do a set at the square peg (way back before it burnt down.... no connection!!!!) and it was an excellent set of cross-over and modern soul mainly of mid-tempo pace. looking forward to hearing midge start the event off a bit of a down side is midge and his wife are planning to emigrate to canada.... it'll be a lot of petrol money to get you to grantham and retford my friend!! Didn't know that Midge was off to Canada, even more looking forward to his spot for this Mid-tempo night, really up for this night seems quite a bit of interest, Northern, Modern, Crossover & R&B all at mid tempo but also danceable, can't wait. coops
second dee-jay up (and second in this unofficial 'portrait' series) is Barry Cooper. What can be said about Barry, firstly he's NOT related to Mick Cooper! He's old! that's one thing, he is in fact one of a pair of sextogenarians behind the decks this night, and he plays golf!!!!! Barry has found his mid-tempo accent on soul via oldies, modern and crossover, all of which he has specialised in recent years but..... here's the rub...... this event WILL have oldies, modern AND crossover but they will ALL BE MID TEMPO!, which makes Barry perfectly suited for one of the three resident sets. next 'portrait' (after consulting our lawyers) Tats & the Forrest Link to comment

By the way "Tats" and myself are not talking about Forest at the moment. Link to comment
coops
Andy 'Tats' Taylor. for those of you who aren't sure who Tats is, he's the one who plays the most excellent soul music mixed in with the 'slip-mat' just for effect. jet-setter and friend to the stars Tats has a depth of knowledge second to... well to not many really. Once this young (ish) Forest Fan gets to grips with the technical side of dee-jaying there'll be no stopping him. One of the founder members of Just Soul he consistantly plays that.... Just Soul (which is, of course more than Just Soul). If you want to hear some excellent anecdotes of his soul-searching trips to the U.S. just add a beer, a listening ear and enjoy his tales of yore. coops
Chris Forrest Chris has an undying passion for woolie jumpers, all things 'trains' and soul music. (specially TMG) Chris loves his trains so much he bought and now lives in an old railway staion in Lincolnshire (come to think of it, he loves his Motown so much he's bought the whole GB TMG set of 7 inchers) Well loved and respected he is the second of the nights dee-jays who has his very own bus pass. Chris can provide an excellent set in almost all genre of soul and often, when double-decking with the Tats seems to have been sepreated at birth from him, so complimentary are their tunes to each others. coops
what can you say about Steve 'Jay' Jackson...... held in great esteem in this neck of the woods and further afield for his 'knowledge', taste in music, deep and diverse collection of soul music and all round nice guyness. mid-tempo, in my opinion, is when you hear steve at his best playing tunes new to one's ears also tunes from our mist enveloped memories. i can't think of a better addition to the residency @ a mid-tempo event than steve. if you're not sure about this, come along to the grantham squash club and try and prove me wrong, i'll not hold my breath. coops
i'm trawling round skegness looking for some 'yellow cards'. if a dee-jay plays a tune over-and-above accepted mid-tempo then the paying customers should be able to 'yellow card' him. the dee-jay with the most yellow cards should have to dance to the last record of the night which, specifically for this event would be al wilson's snake. dance video'd and photographed as appropriate punishment Link to comment
