Looking through my records came accross a few Casino biggies in their time that never gey spins anymore where i go anyway.Take a look at these 5 for starters do they get any action nowadays all big dancers back in the day.

Otis Blackwell--Its All over Me--Epic. Total Stormer

Out of those 5 i have only heard Otis Blackwell played recently the others not since the old days.Any thoughts out there on any of em could they stand up today i for one would love to dance to them all again.

I played the Tojo track for the first year at NMD, fantastic track that needs more play time IMO

Sweet - Broken heart attack started getting plays again last year, have heard it out a few times, have heard wilbur walton a couple of times this year too.

there are loads of things that had a brief kind of life at wigan and were then forgotten, shame really, a lot of them would go really well on todays scene.

The best thing is you can pick a lot of them up pretty cheap, knowing that sooner or later someone is going to remember it and start playing it out, then the price can only go up

Funny enough, we where talking about Sweet "Broken Heart Attack" on facebook the other day.

We where saying that this record used to be on sale on the stall in Manchester Market about a year before Wigan opened.

And the shock of hearing it covered up 6 or 7 years later by Dickie.

Agreed Steve its a great dancer one of my faves as is the Intros,both a hundred times better than some of the played out oldies that get relentlessly churned out.

Found another The Jerms--I'm a teardrop,midtempo moody atmospheric track ain't heard that one in years also

I think Searling played the Wilber Walton Jr track .My mate bought it from him. I dunno mate, I'll have to have a good think about it. What really bugs me is when people list a record and call it a "Wigan monster" and they're talking about something like The Lovells which only ever got played about twice. There's monsters and there's minor spins.

just off the top of my head

With the exception of some of the things Pete & Deejay mention, none of the things mentioned thus far are really forgotten in the true sense - a proper forgotten oldie is something that when you hear it, its the first time in decades & it almost takes on the mantle of a newie again, I'm thinking of the likes of recentish reactivations like Lee Fields & Sandy Hadley, I had never heard Sandy Hadley before to be honest......but I know it was played. I would like to hear about things competely buried for years, that we all have literally forgotten.

I had never heard Sandy Hadley before to be honest......but I know it was played.

Russ, first time I ever went to Wigan, I did a tape which I listened to many many times so remember a lot of the tracks, Richard played Sandy Hadley, it was bootlegged by the time I next went which was 2 weeks later so it had a very short lifespan.

Another truly forgotten oldie is on that tape, maybe forgotten because it wasn't actually very good, Freddie Hughes - Don't You Leave - Greg Uh Rudy Records.

(Also included Holywood Persuaders, Nine Times, jades, Vicki Sue Robinson, Marion Love - Walk proud and pretty)

Kev just because they are 70's releases doesn't mean they originated from the Mecca, Pennington obviously was did but Brandon & Johnson was a John Vincent spin at Wigan, Liberty was an Alan Rhodes spin at Wigan and was also played at Cleethorpes, how you going to know where it was played first when 3 venues have the same record?... I'll check the next lot with you make sure I don't make any more mistakes...

I don't ever remember hearing that at Wigan but Russ always played the other side, the instrumental, covered as Bob & Earl band. I didn't even KNOW there was a vocal til the 80's

That's a big shock to me that the Strides was coved up at Wigan, having said that I only found out last year that "Love Music" was covered up at Wigan as well.

I can see where you are coming from. I stopped going to Wigan just after the 2nd Anniversary, and didn't start going until late 78 .

For me 79 until the end was the best time to go to Wigan for the music, even if some Saturday Nights where dead.

I never did any of the Friday oldies.

Like Wigan will always be your No1 Club, The Mecca will always be mine.
