A little Christmas present for you lot from me, this is the last 30 minutes of the 4th Anniversary at Wigan casino, 24th September 1977. I taped this from the back left of the room. It's notable for featuring the late Martyn Ellis doing one of his rare Wigan spots, he's the first DJ on, followed by Russ Winstanley ending the night with an awesome, atmospheric 3 Before 8 (well 4 before 8 if you include Gerri Granger). Sound quality is as you would expect from a cheap cassette deck but if you love the Wigan atmosphere you'll enjoy this. All the best,

Clapping on the last 3-4 is fantastic and really takes me back, sadly though it seems these were the 'crap years' according to the clever types on here.

Thankfully, I'm not very clever so prefer the sound of the clapping to the sound of hands being rubbed across chins.

Listen thanks everyone for your comments, this one was an exclusive that I have never podcasted before because for the last few years the tape had stuck and I couldn't get it to play, it was a fantastic night and I'm more than happy to share it. I did have another 90 minutes worth of this night but I lent the tape out to Kim Style's mate from Tonbridge way back in 1988 and never saw it again.

It reminds you of why you got into the whole thing in the first place.

Great venue, great times, mad people, unforgetable adventures that are scary to recall.

Even if you felt like something the dog had sicked up, you always made the effort to wring the last bit out of the night and get on the floor for those last few tunes.

Where do all those years go, funnily enough I found my box of memorabilia the other day with both my 3^rd and 4^th Anniversary badges in. plus many others and even remembered my electric blue speedo bag which was round oblong shaped. Our gang used to sit upstairs next to Ladies Loos right hand side of stage and there was a spate of nicking badges off bags hence we all removed them and luckily enough I managed to hang on to mine. Many many happy days and fond memories of NS life as it was then "underground" and I for one loved it that way- Happy Days for sure - Thanks again Pete

Paul, after I'm On My Way, Russ actually played it again, I cocked the tape up yesterday though so it's only on once, as the intro for I'm On My Way starts you can hear me say as clear as day "Paul, hold this for us" and the cassette recorder being passed to you so I could, presumably, have a dance.

I know, those we recorded in the wolves corner were more atmospheric, and those that were recorded on the stage were clearer, but either way, there was a lot of history in those tapes mate.

Something I really miss about Northern nowadays is the clapping - I don't just mean the fantastic clapping to the last 3 but on every record, people clapped on the exact beat at the start or end of a chorus etc, that was a skill that you had to acquire, shame that it died out. For instance on Long After Tonight Is All Over, he sings "let me tell you" and the response is a massive uniform 'CLAP', just the one, but by a thousand people, before he sings the next line. F*cking magic.

Pete agree 100% the clapping has gone dont know why, its a pity only the odd time at certain venues you may get a little clapping,it was really as important in them days to clap as was the footwork etc etc, my partner never went to Wigan but now shes got a better insight and feel as to what it was all about....

Got one of these tapes somewhere in the loft from circa 78 which you've inspired me to try and dig out - I do remember it's got similar fantastic clapping to 'You'd Better Believe it Baby' Joe Tex (another sadly VERY underplayed track).

Great memories of a great night.I hadn't been to an all nighter for quite a while so my brother got me a ticket. I remember going with my brother (Ronny Wynne ),Mike Hughes and Jimmy Small ( what ever happened to him ?). I know there were quite a few others with us but I can't think who after all this time. Sold my badge to some one from Italy a couple of years ago and after hearing that clip I wish I'd kept it.
