December 13, 200420 yr The Interpretations(Coming Out Of Hiding) link Ok stone me, but I really like this...
December 13, 200420 yr DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF X FACTOR STEVE SUNG ON THE FOUR VANDALS ONE PICTURE'S WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS/NO NO NO GIRL? link Whats the story behind the Four Vandals, never heard of them before
December 13, 200420 yr Whats the story behind the Four Vandals, never heard of them before link Four Likely Lads, original line up hailing from Sheffield - Brett, Mark Etheridge, Blade For Life (Steve Manion) and Shane (hopalong) Think sort of The Beatles meets The Full Monty and you'll get the picture
December 13, 200420 yr Four Likely Lads, original line up hailing from Sheffield - Brett, Mark Etheridge, Blade For Life (Steve Manion) and Shane (hopalong) Think sort of The Beatles meets The Full Monty and you'll get the picture   link .... That'll now be TWO CRUNCHIES "owed" to you Nob Jockey :Fck_off_by_nulltarget:
December 13, 200420 yr is this bullshit...cos ive just listened to it...its awsome...and is there a single....when was it recorded....if its true...that bloke as gone right up in my estimations....... here it is https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Four_Va...usand_Words.ram
December 13, 200420 yr No bullshit Dob it's Steve Brookstien all right and an Ian Levine production, pretty sure it did get a release as well. It's certainly been issued on a couple of CD's John
December 13, 200420 yr For my sins I like 'Wrong Side Of Town' despite Mr Levine's finger prints all over it. It's just a pity we had all the very dubious and silly games played over it by certain people who should know better!!! That said, ceratin people should also be gratful Mrs Osbournes not a northern Soul fan - can you imagine what she'd have done with them and their....you get the picture Edited December 13, 200420 yr by TheBigO
December 13, 200420 yr Its certainly on Allnighter 3 GSCD144. But dont be downhearted the rest of the cd is rather jolly good.
December 14, 200420 yr Hi everyone. Wake up and smell the coffee......it's a pile of poo! You all know that really.
December 14, 200420 yr Aye, but that Venetia Whats er face track is really quite good. link Yeah but that's Steve wotsisname as well - just with the vocals sped up Jerry.
December 14, 200420 yr Hi everyone. Wake up and smell the coffee......it's a pile of poo! You all know that really. ========= Isn't it a matter of preference though? Personally I think it's not bad, and very danceable. Can anybody tell me (honest question) was it released to chart....or was it aimed mainly at the northern fraternity? Winnie:-)
December 14, 200420 yr  I think you'll find winnie that it was aimed at ripping off certain DJ's by passing it off as an original 60's 45 - hence the deft hands of Boxing Ginger Taylor at Stoke! No amount of spin doctoring can change the fact. Sad really as it is a good record IMHO (although ripped off Dan Folger chorus!) * Thats 'Wrong Side Of Town' I'm talking about by the way - anyone seen the film clip that goes with this? Edited December 14, 200420 yr by TheBigO

December 14, 200420 yr He (Steve) is that good, he was booed off stage t'other night , not once, not twice but three times forgot the words as well He also said according to the radio that skeletons in his cupboard will ruin his career I bet his career doesn't get off the ground, he'll sink faster than the titanic Still a million quid ain't bad I suppose for a Karaoke singer Edited December 14, 200420 yr by chalky
December 14, 200420 yr Dissagree, I think we are going to see him in the charts a lot. And yes, I loved wrong side of town, perfect dancer for me. But I do not in anyway agree with the way it was sold to the scene
December 14, 200420 yr Dissagree, I think we are going to see him in the charts a lot. ============ There may be a little bit of interest in him initially, but when you consider the other winners of various talent shows.....I don't think it will last too long. Winnie:-)
December 14, 200420 yr Aye, but that Venetia Whats er face track is really quite good. link Oh no it isn't!
December 14, 200420 yr Oh no it isn't! link I agree Tony, the backing and the vocals don't even sound like they belong together.
December 14, 200420 yr I agree Tony, the backing and the vocals don't even sound like they belong together. link Reminds me of Petula Clark too Edited December 14, 200420 yr by chalky
December 14, 200420 yr I agree Tony, the backing and the vocals don't even sound like they belong together. link Thats because they don't, inspite of what Tone-deaf Mikey says
December 14, 200420 yr I have only heard it in the vacant Rocket Halls, but I quite liked it. I accept my charge of being tone deaf. But you really should hear my singing. Actually... no you shouldnt
December 14, 200420 yr I have only heard it in the vacant Rocket Halls, but I quite liked it. I accept my charge of being tone deaf. But you really should hear my singing. Actually... no you shouldnt link Played in an empty hall is where it sounds best!

December 14, 200420 yr i wonder if steve x factor has a northern collection.....instead of being paid off levine,he gave him a load of records....
December 14, 200420 yr Chalky where was he singing then? link I forgot, it was someone on the radio saying what happened. He was doing an appearance at a night club or summat like that I think. Edited December 14, 200420 yr by chalky
December 14, 200420 yr Reminds me of Petula Clark too link Probably because the end bit of the chorus is a direct clone of "Downtown"...also the earlier part of the melody is borrowed from Trinity "We Love The Pirate Stations".
December 14, 200420 yr Oh no it isn't! link Oh yes it is. If it was by anyone else but Levine people would still be raving over this. Fantastic record.
December 14, 200420 yr If it was by anyone else but Levine people would still be raving over this. link Oh no they wouldn't
December 14, 200420 yr Oh yes it is. If it was by anyone else but Levine people would still be raving over this. Fantastic record. link So are you saying you prefer this tune to the Chuck Cockerham, that you refer to elsewhere Pete?
December 14, 200420 yr Oh yes it is. If it was by anyone else but Levine people would still be raving over this. Fantastic record. link Sorry Pete, you´re dead wrong there!, I always loved Peter Hamilton(inst.) and played it regularly in the early 90´s when it was largely forgotten, on hearing the vocal, instantly hated it, tailor made rubbish! See me after school!
December 14, 200420 yr Steve is the lead singer of The Four Vandals and The Interpretations(Coming Out Of Hiding) link soddin hell i never knew that .....i like that too Davie
December 15, 200420 yr But please don't tell Dave, it's his christmas present link spoilt me xmas surprise  ...but yipee . I love the record, hate the lies surrouding it, but its a great record imo.
December 15, 200420 yr Oh no they wouldn't link I think the version by Elaine Paige is better. Hammy
December 15, 200420 yr Oh no they wouldn't link I'm not jumping on the bandwaggon, but I don't like the record. And I made my mind up after listening to it before I knew all the background to it. It just sounds like it should sit one of those CD comps 'Northern Soul For The New Millenium' type thingys, which should read 'Manufactured Bontempi Pap Northern For Supermarkets'. It just does not sound right, even with the benefit of hindsight. Just my two-penneth. J
December 15, 200420 yr Thanks for the support Pete, Johnny and Janine. I was stewing at home last night, about whether I had backeddown too easily. But that comes from buying some awful crap at niters, and then listening to them in the cold light of day, without any stimulants. I was surprised the 4 Vandals was still played at the Rocket despite 99% of the soul scene knowing what had happened with the 'PR' on that track, but it didnt stop me liking the Viennetta track.
