This could be complicated.

If somebody had never heard of Northern Soul which record would you play them to describe what Northern soul is to you.

Mine would be ..

The Superlatives I Still love you.

Apologies if it's been done before.

Anyway who are the soul police 🚔🤔.  Anyone care to admit to being a member , don't be shy. 😁

Soul or pop....??

Paul Anka - 'When we get there'

Love this song! Always have since I first heard it age about 12. And it just gets better with time imo.

Still more a pop song than a Soul record imo.

Have to agree a pop song....but then you have "I Can't Help Loving You " by the  same  artist  100% Northern soul.

I agree, like 'loving you' dislike 'get there'

Yes quite right , everyone loved k-jee

still do massive in my youth club in Lancaster as well as today’s people

SOS 👍

I guess its also about when you joined the scene.

One of the first massive sounds for me was Barnaby Bye.....but no doubt folks who joined 5 years earlier, literally baulked at it.

Author and curator of the Cornell hip hop Collection, Johan Kugelber says that the history of hip hop is a

“riddle wrapped inside an enigma stuffed inside a mystery hidden in a sock"

and the same can be said of Northern Soul.

It would have been nice if it could have been hidden in a sock a bit longer. I'm a bit selfish and didn't want the world know about my Northern Soul.

Nothing Can Compare To You, Velvet Satins.

Uptempo, crisp vocals that rattles along with a dance break to boot, an archetypal NS record that covers all the bases.

Probably not even in my all time top ten but if ET ever landed and asked the question that's the one he's hearing.

Good shout, some might say Velvet Satins was the best 45 to come out of the Casino Speakers....

I wouldnt presume to do do the judging of a highly subjective part of te condundrum associated with vinyl sales prices with defining in summary , a sub genre of music everyone has a passing acquaintnace with, but may not grasp an overweaning urge to listen to it for up to eight to ten hours or an entire day or three consecutive days , just ask em when they can free upbsome time to experience an event with you to answer any questions , if your notbactually having a dance in which case they can adress their query to any other adult in the vicinity? Who isnt balancing te act of drinking, taking selfies and indulging their own mastery of being a northern soulot!

Reissue & Mal....given the title of the thread i don't think either of these three posts show much NS 'brotherly'.
