Obviously I'm very biased, but we were chuffed to bits to have 82 in at West Wilts Soul Club.

I'd be very pleased to hear anyone else thoughts of WWSC -we aren't too precious to take criticism and lord knows we had microphone issues (now under examination!) but hopefully everyone who came felt it was well worth the door fee and journey.

It's a small club and 70 ish is a normal night usually, although we have a 120 capacity with the ratio of dancers/sitters we were lucky to have it would have been a very crammed floor with too many more!

I think most people were comfortable with being asked just to respect each others space, we had the air con on (although it didn't feel like it! Some tweaks to do next time to reflect the build up of dancers heat I think) and hand sanitisers dotted about also.

I was especially chuffed to see such a large travelling contingent from all over, it's taken us nearly 4 years of really hard work to get such a large number of 'week in week out' dancers (as opposed to the once or twice a year casual attendees) and it seems to be paying off.

I had some nice feedback so far, so hopefully we'll see all the new faces again when we have our 2nd event this year on November 27th.

I'm not sure what any new government rules will entail fromSeptember, although we will, as ever, be seeing what's going on at the myriad of events we'll be going to before then and adopting what we feel is 'best practice'.

Thanks again to the dancers, chatters and of course our resident DJs, and regulars and most of all our own 'Mrs Woods' Katie who polices the door & floor with ruthless efficiency!

Went to the Forum Theatre in Romiley last Friday and watched, again, the play, Once Upon A Time In Wigan. This was then followed by a set from Kev Roberts. Super night 👍

Any more reviews on how venturing out has been after such a long time from anyone?

I'm looking forward to dipping my toe back in / 're-grouping' with folk, so it would be good to hear how various places have been.

I forgot this was back up and running.

King's Hall Stoke. I hadn't been for 15 years (  apart from the Rare, crossover room which if you could ignore  the what felt like 120  C heat was fantastic ) it will be another 15 years before I go again.  Still playing the same records from my last visit.  £2.50 for a bottle of water which was available for £1.50 outside from the catering van. The cold water had been turned off in the toilets so you couldn't have a quick cool down wash or fill your water bottle . As most people will testify I tend to know a few people at any nighters I care to go. Stoke - I actually knew more DJ,s than punters. Sorry not for me.

Swinton.  Was fantastic even though the numbers where less than I expected.  Musically every base was covered,  spent most of the night upstairs in the modern/ crossover room before finally venturing down to the oldies type room quite late to catch up with lots of people I hadn't seen for 16 months.  I then went into the Dark horses room for the last hour of the upstairs events before returning downstairs for the last hour or so. Heard plenty of new to me records and the last set put together by Kev John ably assisted by Jez Jones 🤔🤣🤣🤣. was a nice way to end the nighter about 6.15 am . I did hear though that the building itself will be sold so I'm not sure how many more nighters will be held at this iconic Palais.

PS . Forgot to add that we had a BVAN reunion type thingy.  Soulandy,  Lorraine,  Ste, Martin L and myself  . Was good to catch up with them as always.

Popped into MK Soul Club’s event at Olney on Friday night. We arrived at 8 and had difficulty finding a spare table (which is never the case there). People were already on the dance floor and the place was buzzing (akin to how it would be by about 10 pm pre-COVID).

We’ve been going to this event for 2-3 years now and this was comfortably the fullest we have seen it, with the best atmosphere there to date. It seems that North Bucks has a pent-up demand for Northern. Long may that continue!

Olney, as in, near Milton Keynes? (I guess it must be what with 'MK' Soul Club) Just up the road from me - When's the next one?

Thanks for the reviews thus far - It's good to hear how things are developing after our 'famine'

Just down the A509 from you.

Next one is Friday 8th October. You will hopefully enjoy it - good venue, good people running the club, good crowd.

All the best.

Went to Swinton which was enjoyable but certainly not full but a nice relaxed atmosphere and good to be back out. A few gremlins with the speakers downstairs early on that were soon sorted and didn't distract from the night. For me, a great way to get back in to going out 👍

Was good to catch up with you Steve and finally put faces to Martin, Ste and Lorraine. Nice one

Ventured out to Culcheth dayer charity event in aid of Blesma.

Me & Lorraine really enjoyed it, arrived late at six and stayed until it ended at eleven.

Great variety of music, not the same old same old.

Met up with friends and acquaintances, plus the rare pleasure of seeing fellow soulsourcer Martyn Pitt.

All proceeds went to a worthy cause.

A great turn out at Barry Holland’s Memorial Day on Saturday; a total sell out and even had an additional marquee to accommodate the numbers. A massive well done to Ann and all the DJ’s for putting on a fitting tribute to a well respected gentleman of the Northern Soul scene.

Tomo

Went to SOS at Bradford Sunday afternoon.Seemed nicely busy with great quality music (always measured by how long since I've heard certain records out)

Nice warm, welcoming crowd.Standout tune Teen Turbans NTBL, sounded ace.
