is there any pics or evidence that little Richie is in fact blue eyed soul (a white chap) ?

Certainly doesnt sound white?

I don't think he is white, but am not 100% sure. What I do know is that, somewhat surprisingly, given what else is on there, this single is on the juke box of the Fred Perry store in Covent Garden. 😅

I've searched but never seen a picture. Apparently he is white, his surname is Jarvis.

Little Richie Jarvis was on "The Porter Wagoner Show" season 07 Episode 18 singing two songs, "Banks Of The Ohio" and "Bottle Of Wine" around 1967/68 . This was a big show in America that ran for many years, there's got to be some footage somewhere.

 Yeah be Intresting to know, from what i could find his real name was John Richard Jarvis, so could possibly be white, he passed away in 1980. Recorded on Viking Records as Richie Jarvis.

Also recorded a single on Capital records in 1973 tittled "You cant get there from here" as Little Richard Jarvis.

Seems to confirm for me on listening he was a White artist

He sounds more like creedance Clearwater revival on this track,he certainly sounded more black 10 years prior 😂

 

Little Richie Jarvis (Nashville singer) did die in 1980 from the result of a car crash. He was white, and had what i can only describe as a 'hillbilly type beard". ( no i'm not 'beardest')😉 and he is probably the same Little Richie Jarvis ( no beard) and The Upsetters.

The Upsetters were Little Richard's backing band, same group or are you getting mixed up.

 I don't know if it's the same Upsetters as with Little Richard...maybe it's just a quirky coincidence but he appeared as Little Richie Jarvis & Upsetters at the Jolly Rogers club (amonst others) 1965.

They actually forbidden from growing a moustache to avoid any association with anything military , so shaving the top lip is a must. 

Great to finally put a face to one of my favourite oldies, thanks for the pics.

There are issues and demos with the title "Heartbreak" which is the actual word Richie sings in the song rather than the more common and mostly used "Heartache"

Didnt know there were demos of “heartbreak” too? Also any idea of which came first? I wondered if “heartache” was out first,then tried again with heartbreak due to the first lot being an error or little Richie going off his head at the title! And I think by heartbreak being in such small numbers they had just run out of steam with it?

I don't know which came first. It was copyrighted as "Heartache", maybe "Heartbreak" was a typo and they got it repressed.

I am just learning about Northern Soul. It is so cool that people are still listening to one of his songs. "Just Another Heartbreak" is one of my favorites that he recorded because of that cracking vocal that was mentioned. Man, he could SING!

Dad had several bands over the years. He played many gigs around the US, especially in Nashville, Tennessee. He played the Jolly Roger and Captain's Table in the 1960s when Printer's Alley was a hot spot. (There are fewer clubs there now, but it is still fun to visit). He also did some sessions in Nashville and was a songwriter. I grew up traveling with him, our family, and his band members. He was called Little Richie because he was actually very short!

In June 1980, he was coming home from performing at The Water Hole in Nashville and was hit by a drunk driver. He would have been 40 that year. All these years later, and I can still hear his voice.

I am gathering memorabilia, music, photos, etc. for a Facebook remembrance page for him. That is how I found this site. It means a lot to me to know people have listened to and danced to this song. As a Nashville native, I have to say, "THANKS, Y'ALL!" :-)

Hi Lori, it's great you came our way...here's a few 'gig ad's of your Dad. Guess you probably get better access to these, but thought i'd post anyway. one is from 1965 the other 1968.

Thanks! I had not seen the "Toast of Nashville" ad!

I found this locally in a Kidderminster charity shop for £1. Curiosity got the better of me , & after getting it home and removing the obviously false label on the B- side found it was the blue labelled SP reissue , with original label deliberately removed but matrix details gave it away .

The Label was an original release Jamo Thomas , Bahama Mama , Part 1 on Sound Stage 1967 . With the Artist & song title probably Tipexed out & filled in with Letra set ?

Would this have done for home use or to play out & deceive the soul police ? Have also found a few others so it's not a one off , and no it wasn't me .
