Agree Jason it is a stand-out track - Billy Byrd - Silly Kind Of Love as Boba identified. The flip Lost In The Crowd is a winner too - killer bass line - proto Chic.

Ann Sexton - Come On Home - flip of I Still Love You is superb.

Jo Stance - Live
Noticed they are included in a couple of lists on here in the last few days. They're a great little band as I think this clip shows and would be good if they play some UK dates this year.

Special Guests - 100 Club Northern Allnighter - Jan 28th
IL's influence on the scene in the early days is well documented, but it seems the influence didn't end there judging by this extract from an interview with Tim Ashibende taken from the Stafford Pages of the Soulful Kinda Music website. J.P. On the subject of distinctly Stafford sounding records, and although I want to cover this in depth later, the who found what side of things, were there any specific factors which contributed to the amount of rarities that got played ? T.A. There were two big record collections which played a big part in what was played at Stafford. The first was Ian Levines collection, which had ended up at Bernie Goldings. It had been well and truly gone through for Traditional Northern by several people, John Manship and I had gone through it at Levines house, where the deal was if you bought so many they were a quid or two each. I got tons as did John. A few years later, as I said, it ended up with Bernie. Of course the style of Northern Soul had changed by then, so people were able to pull yet more stuff, as did Keb and Co . I look forward to every all nighter and although you ain't gonna like everything that's played, has there ever been a bad night at the 100 Club?

History Of Recording Site - Studio Photos and Info
Used to do a bit of recording in studios when I was younger so was interested in looking at the tape machines and consoles etc. There is a photo of a AMPEX AG-1000 16 Track 2" Master Recorder ( now uploaded below) apparently the very first unit arriving at Mira Sound Studios New York. The Recorder was apparently used, later, in the day on "With this Ring" by the Platters ( brilliant track incidentally) . That would have been 1966? At about the same time the Beatles were still using 4 Track technology over at Abbey Road and recording Revolver. The USA has always been ahead in the technology stakes and it just goes to show what brilliant engineers they had at Abbey Road. Have very much enjoyed surfing the photo's on this site and no I can't recognise any of the unknown groups. The pics of the teen band are very good and the dude smoking the pipe is classic. As you say, one to keep an eye on for new interesting photos. Cheers Mike

Been listening to the last one today and they're all winners! Almost did a spin getting off the tube this morning As Jason says, these podcasts take time and effort to put together, but they're very much appreciated. ATB Mike

E-Bay Sound Clips - How To Attache?
Hi Mick This is from the Official Div Share Website FAQ. I've never tried it myself but hope it works for you. How do I add an audio file to my Ebay auction? To add an audio player to your eBay auction, start by logging into your DivShare account and then head over to the upload page (www.divshare.com/upload). Select any audio file in MP3 format from your computer and then click upload. You'll then be provided with a sharing URL and other sharing codes, including an "embed" code. Just copy and paste this code into your eBay auction while adding a new listing using their HTML (or non-standard) form. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Good luck with your auction!

Ric-Tic - (Label Of The Week)
Yeah - just had a listen to it on You Tube - it's not bad. Presumably as Andre Williams is credited as having co written it, his version came out first?

Ric-Tic - (Label Of The Week)
Strange lyrics on this one - opens with the lines:- Mother nature was good to you baby She gave you everything you need Think this was also used as the backing track for Fabulous Apollos - Determination - Valtone which was on Chalky's Stafford 3 Podcast which I think I may prefer.

News: The Temptations - (Artist Of The Week)
Norman Whitfield recorded the song's instrumental track in 1964, two years before he got together with Eddie Holland to have lyrics written for the song. Several artists recorded "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" before the Temptations, including Jimmy Ruffin, and The Miracles , who included it on their 1966 "Away We A Go- Go" album. After Whitfield's previous production for the Temptations, "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", hit number-one on the Billboard R&B singles chart, he prepared "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" as a showcase for Ruffin and the Temptations.

What Record Would You Use To Explain Or Exemplify Northern Soul
Has anyone mentioned Joe Hicks - Don't It Make You Feel Funky? Sounded absolutely fantastic when Mick Smith played it at the 100 Club on Sunday morning.

Recommended Record Of The Day, From Your Collection 2011
There is where it all started for me and my mates. We got into soul music when a class mate bought the Temptations 1990 and played it to us. It's a fantastic album using original members of the Funk Bros James Jamerson, Earl Van Dyke, Jack Ashford, Eddie Willis plus Dennis Coffey, Melvin Ragin. I think this track is one of their best 70's tunes. Hope you like it too! https://youtu.be/8KiB0mjKW3s

Soul Memorabilia
Did a google search and nothing interesting came up! Wasn't there a thread on here though about Man of My Word being sold at Salt n Pepper gigs. That would be a nice bit of memorabilia to own although I'd probably sell it coz I'm not really in love with the tune. I wonder whether Brothers of Soul had any merchandising at their recent gig? When James Burton ( Elvis' guitarist ) played down the 100 Club a few years ago he was punting out laser print pics of him and Elvis which he'd sign for you with a personalised message for £5, if I remember correctly. It's a great little earner. Mind you, he probably got a few tips off Colonel Tom Parker, the master merchandiser.
