Hi All, Just a quick blast and update on the new Manchester Allnighter under the New Century Soul Club banner which to recap happens on Saturday December 6th 2003 at The Century House Venue, Corporation Street, Manchester. Firstly to squash any rumour out there this is not my venue i am just one of the DJs ok. Im very proud to be connected with this first class promotion as this will become one of the leading events in the country very quickly, no question of that, there is a first class atti

Hi our 2nd year underway: heres a review from Wendy Flynn
Friday 23rd May was the first Sleepless Nights of year II. Anyone attending must have had low expectations - it couldn't possibly better the attendance and atmosphere of the 1st anniversary bash. Could it? Friday night would indicate SN will continue to be a great club. It also proved that SN is establishing a legacy.
Al was up first on the decks. Under the tutelage of Danny, Pip and John, Al has been spending slightly less mone

After fridays adventures, pleased to annouce all lost was car keys for a while and a houston outlaws for 30 mins Quick and fast report if interested Trip down: Listening to Cardiff promotion playoff match could have been the highlight, or would have been if you spoke welsh! and then it was the normal game of anyone bring tapes, nah so it was the one duty minib
Second Monkey At Springfield event of the year, and we were well looking forward to this one, know when you get that feeling? Well we felt a buzz of anticapation going around for this one... Ongoing car probs, clutch status: now only gets us round corner to asda, so had to scrounge lift of Ritchie and Ann, much appreciated. Turned up early and in a soon to be gone chill mood had a casual beer while looking out over the river to England, realising we could flyer it as 1km from England. Sound
Last ever Tonys
As well behind with many things, if dont do it here it never get done so all a bit its rough and ready...
Anyway looking back at it the last nite at Tonys was a very good un, think somewhere about 3-400 turned up for this final nite.
Popped in to an earlier all-dayer at Lowton which meant we were well up in the mood.
Having a laugh we were talking about what memorabilia we were going to rob, then later saw 3 or 4 people carrying out one of the red easy settee

Guest DJ: CRAIG BUTLER
Col & I went up to the Rider good ‘n’ early and, with the help of Eddie who arrived shortly after we did, the decks were set up and spinning toons well before the 8.30 kick off This gave us time to admire the newly refurbished & decorated room, the bar area had been transformed (complete with new barmaid), there were freshly painted walls, a new car
DRIVERS CLUB – SOULER POWER – EDINBURGH 26/04/03 Thanks to Shirley for yet another great review Guests Malc & John (Dundee) Colin Wood & Guy Hennigan (Yorkshire Rider Club) Sometimes living in the centre of England has it’s advantages, one of them being it’s as long as it’s wide to get to most places throughout the UK, so the journey to Edinburgh wasn’t really any further than say a trip to London for the night and we’d done just that on more than one occasion;-)) I’d been to Sc
It’s been a long time since I added anything worthwhile to this site so I though I ought to pull my finger out.
I haven’t been out much recently so can’t really say anything about venues although I do feel as if I am missing out on a lot at the moment! Despite that my system at home has taken plenty of hammer because the excellent tunes keep arriving. The soulful house epidemic seems to be dying down as the ratio of top quality sounds continues to reduce. It certainly seems that way t
After Broughton, the minibus headed for Goldbourne niter, picking up yet a few more North Welsh strays, was a great nite. Somewhere along the line Goldbourne has become a regular haunt for us, with a minibus full and 6 others from coast turning up at the event, there was a well strong presence from the homeland. Think the recent selection of djs , the venue and the fact we always have right old laugh there make this a most enjoyable niter. And the quality of sounds heard there makes this imo a g
Broughton Soul Nite North Wales Saturday 20 April It was case of get down expressway to Broughton on Saturday, famous for British Aerospace and also as the home of Soul Sams and Brian Ellis monthly soul nites. DJs: Mick Smith, Butch and Ady Croasdell plus guests Kenny Burrell and Keith Money.
Another sound night with the DJs particularly excelling. Kenny played his male version of Sweet Temptation (very different to Martha Starr) and gave airings to a lot of sounds we dont get to hear enough of.
Keith shone with a great deal of thought going into his set, changing the moods and tempos at just the appropriate times, he more than justified his recent sign
Theme Park Update and a reply to guest comment. Firstly i would like to make it perfectly clear to everyone on the scene that the new Manchester Allnighter on December 6th is NOT MY PROMOTION I am simply DJing there so as for putting my money where my mouth is and reducing the cover price/admission this has nothing to do with me, anyhow is £10.00 advance not in line with other current venues, this event is costing a huge amount of money to set up so it has to be covered.......... funny the e
March has been a full month of great soul so far. Col&I went to both the Prestatyn and Llandudno weekenders - whod have thought soul heaven was in Wales;-)))))) Both of these weekenders were excellent, great soulies, great soul acts, great music thanks to the organisers of both these weekenders all their hard work certainly showed in the end results. By opening time at 8pm there were already in excess of 70 people, and the atmosphere was starting to tingle. By 9pm the room was full to bursting and the atmosphere was electric with the crowd full of anticipation. Dave started the night off on a high, with the dance floor full immediately, and t

Ok here we go with a look back at last nites xmas monkey. 8 o clock doors open, few early people already in, Not attempting much vinyl info, as still scrambled and as a lot of nite was spent darting about, was a case of missing a lot of vinyl going ons First up was Colin Wood one of promoters of the great Halifax Yorkshire Riders Club, got to say many thanks to Colin, fairly long story but end of day Colin put in a lot of effort to do this spot and know myself and Steve really appreciated thi
Had an enjoyable time at last weekends Niter/Dayer at Llandudno. As always it had its own unique feel and atmosphere and had a great time. Think niters been going over 6 years now, main thing I always say about them is they have their own unique feel, style and atmosphere. Hard to explain really, think many factors come in; the promotion, the location, venue, crowd and djs booked. All give event its own identity and feel. Of course being a "local" my view may be a bit different than others, a

Well what a weekend, it started just how I wanted, it to with Janine picking up myself and Steve Heinsen from Bedford. We arrived around a quarter to ten, and were pleasantly surprised jus
Dome CSC, well after moving back to the homeland a while back , my attempts to get regular to Dome, slowly got less and less, the vast amount of events, petrol prices, other involvements all meant trips down south had to be curtailed a bit. As been a bit of time since did a review of a csc nite, standby for a return of the sense of puzzlement that usually accompanies these reviews.
Written for off-list thing with soul talk bit added on for list, so apoligies if context n
Many thanks to Neil and gang for taking time to pass on their view Regrettably, despite having read a lot about them, we havent been able to attend the previous DMSC nights so, when the five of us arrived at 8.45pm we were all officially monkey virgins!! For the the extended version read on…….
Of course am involved in running of this event along with Steve Holyhead Thomas and cynics could say a totally biased view, and tell the truth they are more than likely right, but
Seems like it was just a week ago that I was somewhere in North London trying to find a night club where word was some lot called Capitol Soul had regular soul nites that were worth getting to. Cutting it short, well these nites later moved location to the Dome and the rest is history.
As 3rd anniversary coming up, thought throw up this special feature to mark the occasion. (A revised version of this featured in recent "Shades Of Soul"). Gotta say have had some of the most enjoyable nites e
Lowton A busy mini-niter (till 4am ) at Lowton last nite.
Looking forward to this one as had a smart line up, late finish and Lowton with its many rooms, places to chill and catch up is always a bit of a laugh Few words , some re-cycled quips and a disturbing lack of vinyl info follows. Lowton - things as always the same, Car park was full and as always no matter what that guy tells me when driving can never find how to get that bit around the back. In and at em. Marc F from Germany recently travelled across seven seas to the Hideaway, and going by what he wrote had a right old time.

Also it was great to meet Lee Miller for the first time in person (cheers mate!).
Lots of understanding, open-minded and knowing soul fans! I hardly can think of one recent night th

FORMER MOTOWN ARTIST BARBARA RANDOLPH DIES
The below was posted up on the soulful detroit forum (link in links) and on Motown Alumni Association list
I am deeply saddened to inform you all off the death of Barbara Randolph on July 15th. In an effort to re-establish contact with her for the Tammi Terrell project I sent a mail, via a friend, to Eddie Singleton in South Africa and this news has just been relayed to me. I have no idea of the circumstances and am feeling quite shocked right

Northern Soul in Dublin is still alive. Sleepless Nights has taken up the mantle and ensures our growing family meet at least monthly. Add 2 successful allniters and 2002 will reflect that the rot has stopped and better days might be round the corner for our City. Raining for last few days, a few emails and a Paul Davis phone call before 10am ask the question is it still on tonight, "course it is" I t

Indeed it is. 21st century, the year 2002 and all that. Life is very complicated these days and that includes the modern soul scene. What was seen to be a variation of the northern soul scene in the late 70s/early 80s, i.e. rare recently released soul, is now a mixture of many different sub-genres. The good news is that if you’re broad minded and like variety then there’s lots of good stuff out there to listen or dance to. The not so good news is that if you only like a certain type of mod
