Bury Town Hall Virtual Allnighter

This Online Soul Event event has now ended

Event Information

Event Type: Online Soul Event

Event Date & Time:

Event Description

The COVID-19 measures have left the Rare Soul scene littered with cancelled events and the faithful following home alone at the weekends; so the Bury Town Hall team have decided to launch a ‘virtual’ all-nighter. The show will be broadcast over internet radio every Saturday while we’re under lockdown from 20:00 until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The format will be just like a real event with a selection of DJs from previous and upcoming all-nighters at Bury Town Hall selecting their spots, carefully in order, from actual records they own to keep it real.

You can join us at https://www.radioking.com/radio/soulallniter

We hope you enjoy the show and it goes some way to filling the void and lifting your spirits

What a soulathon that was, quality from start to finish. Simon - top marks for putting together and the djs for there time and effort. True labour of love and these allnighter are keeping some of us going in these strange times. This I think us the people on the scene get behind the bury lads after covid and all get together at bury town hall to thank them (that and want to see lens dodgey dancing in his dad clown outfit) sorry mate but your banter is hilarious and is part of what makes it all work. That's 11 top allnighters THANK YOU ALL 👍

Thanks again to all the spinners for what were great sets. Ended up being too busy on Discogs as usual!

Special mention to (I think) Bob Hinsley for digging up that Robert Banks track - great stuff. And Chalky - that Gladys Knight tune was pitch perfect.

Carrying on from the virtual AllDayer - the AllNiter just kept the quality flowing.
Great DJ line up with their slant of choices and boy did they deliver.
Wilxy sneaked in (YES, I know you were offered it) with a 7-8pm slot - very kind of Simon.
Just carry on the good work everyone as I am loving it.

Tom.

Listened from the off at 12.

Went for an "Extended Walk" in Stockport and listened from about 4.45 on arrival at the chosen route whilst we were taking our "Daily Exercise".

Difficult to pick stand out moments when everything stands out, like a finely tuned V8, foot down and a non stop rolling burnout! or in normal language, a big wheel spin. Just buckle up and hold on - Tightly.

Think Fingers venue report is required to make full sense of it all, it was all too fast for my brain & fingers to keep up with. Wilxy put his foot down and the last thing I remember was the finish line, 4am "Why have I done this to myself again"? We all have the same answer, I had no choice.

Here's my top 3 moments.

Lennys Clown Story, seriously brilliant "You couldn't Make It Up"

Mischief a Go Go🤣 aka Winsford Soul & the many Lennys in chatroom, another masterclass.

Everyone just on top form whatever they were doing, everyones enthusiasm is infectious.

Now Simon, have you set up the Bury Niter addiction helpline yet? I need couselling.

Nor me (Currently playing it for the fourth time)

What a day! Yes a marathon, but I think loads of us listened to the whole thing! I listened from in the bath, to the graveyard (Visiting Dad's grave), to my record room, then (thanks to 'Soulandy') to our garden whilst burning everything that I thought could be flamable in my ('LD Fabrications' made) Fire pit! The kids were up until 1.00am, completely ignoring Nina's 'Marge Simpson' sounding groans :D

As Pete touched upon above, this whole thing is made up of so many things.  Not least the enthusiasm, fun, and positivity that all the listeners bring to the party - 'The Magic'

Thanks for having me once again - Here's what I managed 'to get on the decks' (To quote our Johnny Fingers)

Len

‘MIKE 1’ (INTRODUCTION)

'THE FESTIVALS - YOU'VE GOT THE MAKINGS OF A LOVER'

‘THE SPECIALS - YOU STOOD ME UP’

'THE SOPHISTICATES - I NEED YOU'

'VIVIAN COPELAND - HE KNOWS MY KEY (IS ALWAYS IN THE MAILBOX)’

‘MIKE 2’

‘LITTLE ANTHONY - NOTHING FROM NOTHING’

‘DOTTIE CAMBRIDGE - PERFECT BOY’

‘MIKE AND THE CONTINETALS - LITTLE SCHOOL GIRL’

‘KIM KATRELL - DID YOU SEE HER LAST NIGHT’

‘PATTIE WARD - (GIRLS) YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR LOVE’

‘THE VOICES OF EAST HARLEM - SO RARE’

 ‘MIKE 3’

‘THE DARLINGS - TWO TIME LOSER’

‘THE DELETTES - WHAT’S THE USE’

‘NEWBY & JOHNSON - I WANT TO GIVE YOU MY EVERYTHING’

'JO ANN GARRET - A WHOLE NEW PLAN'

‘CANDACE LOVE - WONDERFUL NIGHT'

***‘BONNIE BLANCHARD & ANDY AARON - YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE’ ***FADE OUT BEFORE THE END***

‘MIKE 4’

‘BILLY SHA-RAE - DO IT’

‘THE DELLS - IT’S ALL UP TO YOU’

Every week we think it can't get any better, then it does,so many quality tracks have been aired over the last 11 weeks deffo "food for thought" going forward.

Another monumental production delivered from Simon and Pete, absolutely brilliant!!

Hiya Guys, I apologise for running out of likes, primarily ! "Hare of the dog" today I'm afraid, after a mammoth Soul session yesterday from midday to when my head hit the laptop towards the end of Pete's set!.....(apologies Pete). Without fear of repeating myself, I had an absolute ball yesterday from start to "finish", and whilst I was chuffed to be asked to forward my selection by Simon and Pete, can only reiterate the gratitude for the overall effort it must take to put on these virtual all-nighters, and furthermore / moreover the colossal effort it must have taken to put on yesterdays  all day Festival/Soiree, which was an absolutely awesome experience! Thank you very much, you all deserve more than plaudits....including the pucker Dj's who were awesome as always. Furthermore, the virtual friendships struck up in the chatroom......, you make my weekend, every weekend since day one, and can assure you I will be at a future Bury nighter in due course.....I applaud you all👏

Kind Regards

wilxy

Only Len could have this happen to him . Anyone travelling from a nighter could probably have a good story to tell but to actually fit the story into the DJ set. Len the Legend

Just a 'foot note' guyz - I don't talk as much when DJing at a venue.  I kinda fell in to this style as I looked at this task as a radio show rather than a venue, and hope that hearing a (familiar) voice chatting away acts as some sort of comfort, a bit of entertainment, and adds to the escapism that the whole show offers us all.

It at least gives people a chance to put the kettle on :D

Len
