Have got Linda Griner on Canadian Tamla which is quite nice, plus a copy of the letter licence from Motown USA to Canadian Tamla, allowing it to issue it in Canada. It's got the royalty rate on and yes, it's a pittance! Will post up some pics of each when back at home....

Have got a Fantastic Four on Canadian Ric-Tic, & was wondering if anyone has seen any others.

I think it's "As Long As The Feeling Is There". instead of being the green with swirl logo, it's all red with the logo on the left.

This is true, but they never are and never will be, with a few exceptions. Mainly they'd be half the price of US issues.

Two reasons why canadian issues are cheaper than the US counterparts:

1) technically they are second issues

2) there's no real market (i.e demand) for them.

Example:

If there wasnt such a demand and market for UK releases they'd be much cheaper than the respective US releases.

Always exception to the rules I know but basically I think I'm right.

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM IF CECIL WASHINGTON WAS RELEASED IN CANADA? IF SO THAT MUST BE RARER THAN THE U.S. ONE.

I honestly don't think the Candian Motown 45's are any rarer than the US ones, only a few years ago you could buy them for $5. Rain is probably easier on decca than it is on US Bell to be honest, always turning up on Ebay.

I was thinking the same, surely they are the original release of that country.

I have collected canadian issues for years and have had just about all the big sounds that came out at one time or another, i have always been under the impression that they were released in smaller quantity than the U.S.A thus making them rarer. Also they are usually a lot better quality.

Agree with Gasher that Canadian issues are probably rarer than US ones but think this can be said for any release outside the States ?

I also find a lot of Canadian vinyl seems to be a higher quality (no pun with the label

Some nice stuff that you have added to the list there Dave especially the Eddie Parker on Stone, wasn't all of The Precisions Drew catalogue released on Canadian Stone.

I can remember seeing Jackie Edwards stuff on Stone.

In my opinion the rarest Canadian 45 I have seen is La Reine La Mar - That's not the way to love - Capitol, this must be mega rare, I have only ever seen one in the 40 years I have been collecting, what anyone else think ? has anyone else seen this ?

good reading this topic, i know kelboy has been collecting non usa labels for years as has ron pedley from york, theyve both got some intresting stuff on canadian, patrick bradley, lada edmund jnr, it seems to have been a thing with a few of the lads from york, ian ohara who now lives in new zealand had a gloria jones come go with me canadian capitol in the sales section recently, intresting stuff the other foriegn labels as well, could never undertand why a record like frankie beverly-if thats what you wanted, would get a release on GREEK TOP TUNES, and what was the other one i saw recently mr creator on an argentinian label

I am constantly being surprised with what I have found and I have things like Little Charles on Canadian Decca, Alexander Patten, Helen Troy on Canadian Kapp, Ketty Lester on Canadian Black Rca, I have the Etta James mentioned at the start of the thread and loads of classic Motown like the Linda Griner, Eddie Holland - Outside Looking In etc etc.

I can remember one of the first "junk" shops I went into and found a Gloria Jones on Capitol, it was battered beyond belief but there went the "Im not going to start collecting again".

I am currently picking up the Detroit stuff like Precisions on Stone, the Reo stuff and the Canadian Ric Tic on a nice Purple label. I also have a Deon Jackson on Canadian Carla, nice looking white label.

I Think that the Original Release for this was Canadian London, Later Released to BELL U.S.A.

That is as far as I am aware, I think that they were a Canadian Band.

Yeah, like you really needed persuading Kev! ...mate of mine picked up a Patrice Holloway "Love and Desire" Canadian Capitol only recently for peanuts off ebay, seller mis-spelt the artist and it was the only record in a bunch of stuff...and a minter as well!

Harry, it was because of the GI`s stationed on the Greek bases during the 50`s/60`s. I was talking with Manship about the Frank Beverley and he saw it for the 1st time on a Jukebox in Corfu I think it was, tried to buy it from the bar owner but it wasnt his to sell, owned by the brewery .....Check out the cheeky label owner adding himself to the recording credits

I can see what Benji means, and also your point - I think the keyword in Benji's statment is "technically", because it was almost unheard of for a record to get a worldwide release on the same day, which is the only way multiple releases of a record could be called "original" . - Technically !!

Realistically, I would think any record that was released in various countries could be called "original" if they were all released within the same time span (maybe a couple of months) - So then it would be fair to say that a "reissue" could be a release in another country based on the POPULARITY OF THE ORIGINAL RELEASE.

think the canadian copy of rain is 71 , as they are out of canada !! the USA copy i think is 74 !

I have had at least a dozen Little Carl Carltons and 4 or 5 Rain's. The last Carl Carlton cost me $1 at the Niagara Fall Show and I havent paid more than $4 for the Rain. Neither of them seem to sell well. These do seem to turn up quite often at shows.

I will dig some of the more interesting one's out and list 'em.

I had a too late - Larry Williams & Johnny watson in the 70s on Canadian Epic and everyone and his dog wanted it becase it was so unusual compared to the Ok copies and was vinyl. Think I sold it to Richard S in Jan 1980 for £12 or £15.

I had a copy of September Jones on Canadian cap a few years ago , as well as other various Canadian 45's. They always seem a better quality label compared to their USA versions

A young lad I have met who has started collecting Soul 45's picked up the September Jones on Canadian from a Charity Shop in Hamilton for 50 cents.
