I believe it is quite Tough to find Harry, When I bought it I didn't realise that it was a difficult one.

Just bought it from Soul Bowl along with other Ric-Tic stuff. The only chance I have ever had to purchase one in 41 Years collecting.

Also love the not often mentioned

"Welcome to the club"

Cloudy Days"

From "The Groovesville Masters album, also "She,s a Living Doll"

J J Barnes was the first black person I ever heard sing live. Mid 70's at the Casino. If I wasn't hooked by then I certainly was when he finished.

My favourite J J track -'I Think I found A Love' Hitbound production through & through. Like a Detroit stick of rock.

Can't find a file in refosoul though.

Best

Kev

I have Real Humdinger on Canadian Reo and so far it is the only one I have found.

It seems the earlier 45's came out on Reo and the Ric Tic started doing there own on the lovely deep cherry red label?

J.J. Barnes and the Del-Fi's - Won't You Let Me Know - Kable

(also 2nd issue on Rich)

According to the interview in an old Blues & Soul, during his days at Motown, he says he was in the Studio everyday!!

Any of it ever turn up??.

I think the J J Barnes version is called "Ain't It The Truth", and was unreleased at the time - it appeared on either the 1st or 2nd "Cellarful of Motown" CD of unreleased material. Don't think it had a 7" vinyl release.....

Hi Richard

Just wondering the same, I have posted on Weird Ric-Tic regarding the S.O.S. Stop Her On Sight Canadian Release.

I didn't realise that J J Barnes - Real Humdinger was there on REO

No scanner and I have just tried to add a digital photo - let's see if it worked

J J Barnes - Poor Unfortunate Me -

Joe Hunter played piano and arranged this. Naturally, he had several other Motown session players playing on it. What I can't figure out, is why Armen Boladian didn't release "It's Alright To Cry Sometimes" by J,J, It's fantastic. Also, it was so modern sounding for 1965, that, at first, I thought it was an unreleased Motown cut.

Speaking of that, -I've only heard 28 seconds of it. Can anyone send me an MP3 of "It's Alright To Cry Sometimes"? I'd really appreciate it. 1964-66 Motown (and related Motown soundalikes by Motown session players) are my first love in music. I've GOT to hear that whole song!

Is the James Barnes on Golden Hit (Free At Last) J.J. Barnes?

james barnes - free at last -

I think James Barnes on Golden Hit must be Jock Mitchell even though there is no evidence.

Because, Mitchell is also singing this "Free At Last" on the same Golden Hit label (#103) and both voices are very closed to me.

As you may know, James Barnes also released another single (Good & Funky) on Golden Hit label (#102).

In addition, Jock Mitchell issued a single (The Ways Of A Woman) on Cha-Joc, Florida based label, in 70s and it is written "Golden Hit Production" on the label, so I believe that Jock Mitchell had the Golden Hit label or at least he was concerned with label operation.

post-13296-0-01810400-1354161075_thumb.j

Jock Mitchell was either sole owner or co-owner in Golden Hit and Golden Hit Productions. I have also heard that James Barnes was Jock Mitchell. But Jock Mitchell was working out of Detroit, at the same time as well-known J.J. Barnes (another James Barnes) was at the height of his career. Why would Mitchell choose a stage name the same as a known rival singer/songwriter? Not to mention the James Barnes from New Jersey (of Jimmy Barnes & Gibralters). I also seem to remember a James Barnes Gospel singer (or was that just Jock Mitchell?)

The story of Jock Mitchell/James Barnes is on here somewhere. Deffo the same person.

Very sorry but I don't understand the word of "Deffo". Is it "default or what?

A Jock Mitchell 45 back in January 1966 .....

PLUS 2 versions of "Love Makes the World Go Round"

wish I could find a copy of the Leon Jackson version

Surely the King Floyd version is a different song? Credits King Floyd as the writer rather than Deon Jackson.
