Three lovely Femme sounds Gary, I am mainly male vocal orientated but these all hit the spot

Kev

Dug a couple of albums out, selected these 2

Think they both had 45 releases, people associate the Trammps and JB too much with the Disco thingy, but do some digging and they were as soulful as anyone or any group, certainly Jimmy Ellis, on lead with the Trammps is a fantastic singer in his own right, JB ? well, truly awesome

Kev

Some great stuff up there that i havent heard before, especially Betty  Renay and    Soul connection.      Personally, have been playing THE SUPERBS , BABY BABY ALL THE TIME . maybe eight times this morning .

A couple "other" sides & a new want have been big plays at this end recently.............

Eddie Wilson-Just Call On Me Tollie.........t'other side of "Toast To The Lady"

The Experts - Shing A Loo & Boog A Ling Big Mama Jo-By.......t'other side of "My Love Is Real"

Recently heard this out & it went straight on the wants list............

James Kelly Duhon - Pusher Man Jude

Cheers

Martyn

I gave it spins at Lifeline and other places some years ago, good under rated 45 and under the radar of many as you say.

Yip, does get played at more discerning venues..

Dug a couple more out, that's the good thing about this thread, gets you up off your arse to have a dig through the record room, inspired by Chris's post of Joe Odum, another great version, Joe just tips it for me, though, they are both fantastic

You sell records to finance the purchase of others, sometimes regrettably, this however, will never be weighed in

rightly so Kev, Cecil Shaw is an absolute keeper... that Joe Odom is a dead ringer for Jerry Butler dont you think..

here's two I just got on Aussie release, Merry clayton is such a great singer...

Couple from me that's in the current CD swap

Ted Ford - I can't give you up (Budd)

Masqueraders - Please take me back (Bell)

Gritty as you like.

Previously unreleased gem from Daptone a couple of years ago...

Perfection, it chugs along, and oh that bass line

Just dug the Barbara Mason out lately myself Kev - off to see her in Bilbao next month as you know. Strange 'Jimmy Bishop' wrote her song and 'Jerry Weaver' the Joe Odom ?

Mike

No surprises Mike, Jerry played a blinder by swapping the "Him" for "Her", genius

Kev which is the best version?

The Dells Chris, CH is marvellous, but when you go heads up against Johnny Carter and Marvin Junior, the next track on the Mighty Mighty Dells is also of the highest order, arguably my favourite tracks alongside each other on any album, "That special someone"

Awesome

Kev

Not sure Kev without looking, I have it on a 45.

Just looked and no.  The 45 was few years later.

I didn't reliase for years that I actually had the Dells version Kev - always played the UK copy but left the US copy sealed filed next to it !!! totally different track listings but the same cover!

Yes Mike, I think a lot of people own the British one not realising there are three (at least) incredible different tracks from (my preferred) the US issue, owning both is essential IMHO

There's been a top[ ten LP's doing the rounds on another social media outlet and Millie Jackson Caught Up and Still Caught Up have featured a lot and with soul music like this you can see why...

Both LPs along with John Edwards' Aware LP are gracing my decks this morning in between jobs.

Ed McCoy - We Can Love One Another

The Elusions - I'd Like To Say I Love You

Shep Grant - You'll Cry Tomorrow

Louis Dyer- Lonely drifter

Little Milton- You ought to be here with me

Ronny Shannon- One way street

Donnie Elbert- This feeling of losing you

J G Lewis- Let the music play

Oscar Toney JR- Ain't that true love

Now time for bed.

One fantastic L.P     The Esquires -get on up  --- bought about because i played my sweet baby on action the other day - then played it on hot line - something made me think there was a difference, so dug out the bunky L.P, played the whole thing while cleaning UP --FANTASTIC- aLWAYS THOUGHTthat my sweet baby took all the honours - Well its put to the sword by ' How Could it Be' - then' listen to me' is great and' things wont be the same',' woman '  all great. President of the association of television and radio presenters Inc back in the day, delivering the sleeve notes happens to be E. Rodney Jones  ---- Get on Up Bill Shepard and collect a grammy!!!!!!!

Next L.p this week has been Cornelius Bros and Sister Rose on UA - came across a copy in Rob Smiths Shop that was coverless -- i love rescuing albums with no covers, oir sleeves with lost vinyl, hoping one dayto reunite then with their partner, every track is a soul masterpiece and harmony score 10/10.

Next to warrant a play, out of out of technical interest more than content was a recent purchase of a Spinners untitled Atlantic L.p from 73 featuring some of their most popular sides - have it on two labels, U.K & French that should be, But couldn;t resist A QUADRAPHNIC CD-4 channel Discrete encoded vinyl offering of same. Branded as Quadra-Disc and prefixed QD matrix wise.  The inner sleeve holds all the technical details and explains, with diagrams, the discrete nature of QU and SD encoding, playing on my Stereo system the enhanced nature of the technology can said to dilute the actual recording with hidden audio tracks without a dedicated Quad system. I have a few quad discs but tend to be mainly stuff i dont want to hear-Well this disc actually shines in quality mastering, and really stands out in sheer bandwidth terms-try it you might like it - quad systems ARE AN EASY SET UP, but whats not easily obtainable these days is the actual stylus, profiled for the direct cut groove- there are lots of quasi-quad systems on line with decoding taking place after the fact of the needle picking info out of a record i indeed this tech is the forerunner to modern day sound bars and systems such as Bose in which frequency manipulation has turned full circle and does provide some interesting results  -  knocking purists who are esoteric in their need to have as little of the original signal put through electronic  cicuits to, in their mind set, corrupt the original. i.e No tone controls etc etc. Ive been there!!! Todays electronic ADVANCES in chip sets and the like really do work. A modern digital amp with sourced componants is cabable of coming up to valve standards that have for the last 20 years been favourite amongst purists for sheer sound quality. Anyone want to try a form of quad a simple wiring exercise known as Hafler (after a david hafler) gives a cost effective method of retrieving phased enhancements to stereo signals ...............................................Esoteric what a great word!!
