Very sad news, especially as he had kick started his career again.I was lucky enough to see him in Utrecht a few years ago and he was in great form. As Wendy has mentioned above 'Half a man' is still a firm favourite with me and for the price of a pint!

Very sad news - he recorded some wonderful records RIP

RIP, only posted ´Half a man´in Recommended records of the day thread just recently and called it one of the original prototypes for midtempo Northern Soul...Great voice and talent...

Howard Tate just heard what another great gone.

One of my favouite voices up there with the very best and truly underrated.

Just to name a few great tracks Get it while you can,I learned it all the hard way, Half a man,and the best of all A'int nobody home.

Currently spinning the limited edition Howard Tate - The Complete Verve Sessions CD whilst on the computer. What a blinder of a release! Thank you so much for the music, Mr. Tate.

Sad news, RIP to a great talent. It was awesome to see him get back on his feet again the last few years.

Hi Steve

Thanks for posting it up. Just been spinning it in the all new record room, been up and running for a week or so, pop out for meals and work  wife not happy at all. Losing Howard Tate and J Blackfoot and off topic Gary Speed, it seems to be all gloom and doom, but lets remember the entertainment all 3 gave us.

Very sad news to hear of Howard Tate's passing.

He was, and always will be, my favourite singer.

It is written that if you live in the minds of others, you'll never die.

He'll never be forgotten.

RIP my man.

Its been a bad time lately, sad to hear of Howard Tate passing away..Hubert Sumlin this morning and Lee Williams and J Blackfoot recently and i see Jimmy Norman on the writing credits on the above 45...damn its getting so you don't want to look at any news these days...God Bless them all Steve

Very sad, seen him at one of his early comeback gigs at Poretta and he was amazingly good, loved it so much they couldn't get him off, some incredibly decent stuff in the 60's and a half decent Atlantic LP, among his highlights.

such a sad loss to the world a great singer

love to his family and friend

There's a short, but interesting, 18-minute documentary about Howard Tate online. You can see it at:

Enjoy!

Very sad news."Baby I Love You"always did it for me way back when.

Another little star in the sky-god bless.

he had such a great voice!

for me, his turntable releases were the best to play out - especially "plenty of love" and "that's what happens"

One of my all time much loved soul singers. A voice like no other. Rest in peace Howard Tate. No more uptown soul left. Stu Raith

Been offline for a while, hence my late post on this topic.

I had the pleasure of meeting Howard Tate when he came to Sweden to perform. His voice was still intact and he put on a great show. Afterwards I got to speak with him and he autographed a few records. He was a very friendly man and it was great to see how he made his comeback after all those years of personal problems.
