Apologies if this has been done before, perhaps its time to recycle?

With all this talk of oldies, underrated, overrated etc, thought it might be nice to look at those records that may be overplayed, overrated, used in adverts/films/remixed/remade and the like, but are just so so so so damn good, that you just dont care!

Them records that it wouldn't matter if you heard them zillions of times they would still destroy you like the first time! (even if you are a card carrying upfront newies punter or modern room mover or closet funketeer ) Perhaps your little dirty secret?

Here's one of mine, I'm way too young to have heard it played out when it was big first time (79?), but it's a stone cold "oldie"

Billy Hambric - She Said Goodbye - Drum (them chord changes in the chorus ruin me everytime!)

Don't really consider it a dirty secret, just a piece of music that can still bring out goose pimples. Jerry Williams - If you ask me

Why 'dirty secret'? I've nothing to hide in my taste of music. I don't need to be clandestine about what I like. And labels like 'over-played' and 'over-rated'are merely subjective statem

I still don't get why you quoted my post where I stated that I liked the Al Wilson track which Stevie and posed the question as to whether as an artist he was underrated.

I don't understand that either

Underplayed tunes is what we need to keep the scene going forward, who wants to hear the same record week after week?, thats why we've got pure soul at nuneaton going :wicked:

Ain't avin a pop, we like new 60s, never want to hear flogged to death oldies, horses for course for ALL concerned,

As the topic starter I would point out that I agree with your sentiments exactly  However, that's not the point of this discussion. I don't want to listen/dance to a set that sounds like a Goldmine CD, but even though I prefer my soul upfront and progressive and spend obscene amounts of time researching, listening, buying and trying to find new 60s stuff (I still believe its out there!), there are still those "oldies" that have the power to move me (and you maybe?), in a very deep way. Preferring upfront/rare soul/across the board, does not mean you have to forget that does it?

two oldies i love at home and even still when out are williams and watson too late and joanie sommers dont pity me....the energy in too late is infectious and the intro of dont pity me on a big sound is brilliant...to me!

DENNIS EDWARDS--JOHNNY ON THE SPOT

WALTER AND THE ADMIRATIONS ---MAN OH MAN

BERNIE WILLIAMS--EVER AGAIN

JAMES LATELY --LOVE FRIENDS AND MONEY

LESTER TIPTON--THIS WON'T CHANGE

BOBBY TREETOP--WAIT TIL I GET TO KNOW YOU

TRENT SISTERS-- A LETTER A DAY

JIMMY DELPHS--DANCING A HOLE

loads more i could fill a page.

Be a good DJ rosta that could deliver all of those in one event. Ohh hang on I think the Southport Weekender will have all them covered.:thumbup:

OT - Never tire of Tony Middleton - To The Ends of The Earth - a world away from the traditional 'oldie' but thats what blew me away when I first heard it.

just having a oldies appreciation night on my own and this is one i will always love although its been played a zillion times everywhere

Isnt this thread supposed to be about records that have been hammered to death and thus liable to be in the category of "not this again" that you can listen to time and time again without thinking that?

The Entertainer never gets old..killer!

Jimmy James & The Vagabonds version is sublime..

As for my tireless oldie, dirty or not, fanfekintastic!

FRANKIE BEVERLY AND THE BUTLERS - IF THATS WHAT YOU WANTED

As I understand this topic is about records that are played at venues week in week out and what you never tire of hearing so in the spirit of the topic can we stick to this.

epitome of sound - you don't love me

barbara mercer - hey!!

gwen owens - just say you're wanted

gene chandler - after the laugher

del larks - job opening

Don't depend on me

Don't depend on me

i presume you mean the fantastic johnny c track, still love this now, brings back memories of youth clubs and soul clubs in the early mid 70,s,sounded exotic then and still does now

i still love house for sale millie jackson and i got the need chuck jackson. love them even more when i discovered different mixes that are around, only slightly different but awesome

Hey Dunc. Good to see you on here bud.

Mine would be Beverley Anne - You've Got Your Mind - cos its great out loud.

April Stevens - Wanting You. Not heard out in about 30 years I reckon. Pleasantly surprised to see it on Manship's auction.

April Stevens ?? Playing at Derby Assembly Rooms Nighter on Sept 15th. I will play it for you there if you wish. Still gets played occasionally around the North Midlands.

My 'never get tired of ...' has to be ' Moses Smith - Girl Across The Street '

Eddie Parker, Tomangoes, Johnny Sayles, Jokers............All records that got me into northern soul, and although my tastes changed since the days of listening to "northern Soul Classic cd's" as a nipper, i'd happily hear these any day of the week at a venue.

They're all oldies...just depends if you have heard them or not! New "60's" is a contradiction :-)

The floor is the "teller"...depends on the crowd, the night. What works one night, flops the next.

Still...for me; Tamala Lewis would do it...however; DJ'd at a mates wedding the other week and 2 stalwarts of the scene since 73; request was Dobie Gray - Out On The Floor

tomangoes ...and ....hide nor hair.....by........earl grant ......these lines are doin my head in , dont know why they appear sometimes when i type :D ezzie

2 that I've loved since the 60's - neither of which are "soulful" but great northern

Mitch Ryder - Breakout

Four Seasons - Opus 17

- and one I never heard till 70's and I'll never tire of it - Al Kent - Way you been acting

Proper Nighter music from back in the day.....

On the left hand side of the toolbar you see when you're replying is an 'S' with a line through as in S which means 'Strike through', you use this if you want to strike through some text BUT leave it on show, as in 'This thread is Shite great', you must have clicked on this accidentlly.

Four Seasons Opus 17 (or is it Optus, nevermind) wow that take's me back, not heard this played out since the sixties, great......

Shawn Robinson - "My dear heart".

Kev !! Love this one. Slipped by me when thinking back. Trouble is, we don't hear it too much in the N Mids !!

i know where i'm not wanted or too working class

You can never be too working class. :hatsoff2:

ooh seconding Tamala Lewis. "You Won't Say Nothin'" always makes me move, even if it doesn't make the floor here in Denmark particularly explosive
