Someone just sent me a message saying he doesn't want the record he bought off me on February 23rd and would I refund the money.

Six weeks to decide he doesn't want the record as it has 'static' throughout, it doesn't have static, it has some crackle which is why it was graded at VG.

Should I do a refund or not?  I don't want to. But you're over a barrel with ebay.

no chance..6 weeks to long..he should have got in touch earlier...record was as described then you cant expect to return 6 weeks later..just my opinion rich

Would not refund in MHO Pete - until

1. You are in possession of the record. 

 

2. Buyer has paid for return postage - been scammed myself numerous times - by people who promise if you refund they will return , and not leave negative blah blah - guess what - most of em then proceed to 

1. not return 45.

2. If they do - leave negs

3. Check his / her feedback left for others and see if there is a pattern of INAD cases - If so report to Ebay via report buyer link - if they don't know - they cannot act ...

 

Only speaking from personal experiences Pete .....  Unfortunately , there are some unscrupulous characters in the vinyl world . 99% are fine , but the shitty 1% cause headaches galore.

He is.  Thing is, there's actually nothing wrong with the record, it's my own copy I've had for years, it's on at least two of my podcasts and it sounds fine..

Annoying only you can decide the best solution, hopefully not too many readies to give back.

I think 6 weeks is taking the piss a bit and as Glyn said record return first, then refund. As I recall that's the EB way.
Then block him.

A couple of days ago he contacted me saying he had not recieved the item and could I show him the tracking details , sent International signed for fully insured.

I sent him the details and what it said on Royal Mail track and trace site.

An hour later he contacted me again saying the record had a blemish which was not in the description and wanted a full refund and would not return the record until  I had given him a refund in full first. As if.

Over 70 days and wanted a full refund. As someone said earlier he has 45 days to file a complaint.

If I seriously thought he was an honest buyer I would of refunded him but something was not quite right.

I told him to take it up with Ebay and the Russian postage service but have not heard anything since touch wood.

Tell him to go and jump!! He's taking the michael. 6-weeks he's probably played it to death in that time and has got fed-up with it.

Someone on here says they wouldn't mind buying it so if I can put the pair of them together there might be a happy ending!

Amazing how he actually received the record within an hour of the first email saying he hadn't received it.  Wish our postal service was that dynamic.

Blimey, can't believe all this discussion - it was me with the Pageants record - admittedly it was cheeky asking for a refund after 6 weeks but I have just been busy with other stuff. It was completely genuine based on Pete's original offer to refund if I wasn't happy, because it doesn't play well on my turntable at all. However clearly it plays fine on Pete's as per his podcast, so looks more like a problem with my system than his record. I absolutely wasn't trying to scam anyone, it is a great record that I've been after for ages but it just doesn't play cleanly on my system. Have told Pete I'll just keep it and apologies for the inconvenience. Podcast above is a great playlist BTW, Samantha Jones straight to top of my wants list (though won't be asking Pete to sell me one!!)

Thanks for coming on Chris, as you can see from the discussion, it wasn't a 'nasty' thread, as you can see from post number one, I was shellshocked at getting a refund request after nearly 6 weeks thats all.  As it all unfolded, I did say I would refund and someone else offered to buy it as well so it all ended amicably.  I think.

Yeah unfortunately it's impossible to predict what the buyer is going to play the records on.

If the seller has a decent system and a record plays well, and then the buyer has a crap system and it doesn't what can you do?

I suppose you could suggest trying another stylus or even a friends system to see if there is any difference, but that's it really.

Sorry to say this but if you don't have a returns policy (minimum 14 days on ebay) uk law says they can return the goods for a full refund and you pick up at your expense, ready for this...............................WITHIN 3 MONTHS from Receipt. Under Distance selling regulations.

Six weeks Pete is far to long mate but like you say the dilema is Ebay and the fact that if he don't get his way your integrity will be questioned with a big fuss and negative feedback, I had one the other day off Ebay sale slight label damage or rather the label had lifted slightly, vinyl clean the guy was happy to keep the record but asked for a tenner part refund back which I just did after offering a full refund and return of the record, keeps your integrity and reputation, might just be worth taking a hit here Pete and give a refund if nothing else to avoid all the Ebay hassel.

I'm interested in the "static" mentioned on the thread.Doesn't static "go away" or disperse? After playing a record would this not "go away".?

Has the method of cleaning vinyl / styrene,anything to do with "static".? Method's being liquids or cleaning cloths.

 HI ALL STATIC, As you are aware static is either +/- in structure (atoms) all man made materials like plastic attract a positive reaction to a magnetic field, remember making a balloon stick to a wall, by running it one way on your school jumper? well that's the same principle of what happens with your records, as they play in one direction only the pick up an electric charge we call static, also when we clean a record we might make it shine but unless you have not used a anti static fluid at the end of the cleaning, you record will attract all the griff back.

MY TIP, if you tap the record, it will disperse the atoms in all directions, so avoiding dust, also use a anti static polish in and around your record room and on your deck,  AS ALWAYS DAVE

My auction page says return within 7 days. Take it up with Ebay, I've found that some buyers realise they've paid too much for a record and can get one cheaper elsewhere so want to send back their 1st Ebay purchase. Good luck.

Chris, you may say 7 days but I doubt if that is enforceable.  Ebay can overrule you I think.
