Just thinking about records that are not rare- Infact common but actually are rare as a white demo.

One kind of snuck through eBay about two weeks ago. Was listed as the other side. Went for about £150. Not great nick. That's at least two on eBay in the last six or eight months.

What about Gene Chandler constellation  white demos - Cheap as chips on issues but white demos?

Also The Esquires on Bunky- again real cheapies on issues but not easy on white demos

Couldn't agree more. Finding demos on bona-fide hits is difficult. I've got some hellishly tough promos many of which have never made it to either Discogs or E-Bay yet.....

What condition are they in? I never found any mint demos of big hits. The ones I've seen were all in a really bad state. I went to a couple of US radio stations in the 70s and the DJs would throw the unsleeved  singles around without a care.

 

Any chance of  scans of some of yours

The Cliff Nobles " Horse" demo looks as though it's one sided, so was there a demo of "Love is All Right" before this as I thought the Horse was  the B side originally. The story was that radio DJs flipped "Love is All Right" for "The Horse" which would be tricky for a J/G single sided demo

Yes Rick, The copy that I have is Single Sided with a scoured vinyl "B Side" and blank Label.

 

It would suggest that It was the "A Side".

 

However;

 

Totally different Label, but this one also has a Single Sided "B Side" DEMO

Just got a fats Domino 'It keeps raining' with 'I'm walking (to new Orleans' on the B side. Not a promo, but both top tracks.

Don't know anything about this one from my box, (except that in JM's latest guide issue listed as £50 and demo at £200) (pages 559 and 91)

To help us get Al Wilson out of our heads, I'm sure we can all think of loads of fantastic white demos on the Motown labels and Atlantic. Even these two:

 

Miracles - Tears Of A Clown, and

Soul Brothers Six - I'll Be Loving You

 

are very decent collectors' pieces.

Here's a few from the shelves of my record room. Nothing uber rare but you'll have to have a good look round when searching for some of them. I'd say the hardest to find was The Capitols Karen 45.  Had owned the stocker for 15 years until I eventually located a WDJ. Some of the Motown Styrene WDJs are particularly hard in pristine nick in my experience too.

Some folk reckon the issue is harder - and I think price-wise they are possibly in a similar  ball-park

Yep as far as price in pounds is concerned I'd certainly agree Mate. But the Ad Libs is a Mint-  and I'd think they are not as common in that nick as a stocker issue. Plus, sometimes it's not about the cost of a 45 but the value to you as an individual collector.  A good example is Dickie and The Ebbtides on GW. Terrible record but hard to find so the cost of it is high but the actual value to me is nil. Yet I've seen many more Dickie and The Ebbtides than, say a Rose Batiste Holding Hands Demo or a Sunliners - All Alone Demo in perfect nick.  Yell you what....it's a funnee ole game this collecting lark eh?

Most of the ones I have I don't think ever reached radio stations since they're all pretty much mint. Could be ex promo stock that got dumped by the promo people. Most of 'em were bought for 10-25 cents each simply 'cos I can't resist a Soul hit on a beautiful white promo. Some are exceptionally rare. I just sold a "Why I Came To California" - Leon Ware mint Elektra promo for £60.00. I think that's every bit as rare as many Northern things.....

I would say that It Isn't that easy to find on DEMO, Plus different pressing plants Involved.

I have seen a few different Label Variations for this on Stock Copy so are there other DEMO Variations ?

For Instance, I believe that there should be a DEMO for the West Coast Monarch.

I haven't seen one but see no reason why It shouldn't be there.

 

Could be a White DEMO, may be a coloured DEMO same as Stock Copy but with PLUG SIDE,  PROMOTIONAL etc on Label.

Yep - incredibly rare, and I'd say it's gotta be worth £500 of anyone's money.

Out of interest were your copies exactly the same as the one I posted up...same print layout, same size font and the "Not For Sale" wording positioned top right? Just curious as to whether the demos came from the same pressing plant. A rare demo IMO.
