Eugene McDaniels "Compared to what" may have wrote this years earlier but when it was put into the track listing of Swiss Movement by Les McCann & Eddie Harris it was considered political criticism of the Vietnam war.  

And of course there's Curtis Mayfield with " Back In The World"
