This was a big Tony Banks play @ Leeds Central circa 1972. It was a big record back then.   Ian D

Interesting you should say that about a Maltese Market !!!!! The reason being that Malta was still a HM Forces posting up until 1979 , I know a couple of my mates big brothers were out there mid

  • I do remember it being played at Wigan, probably around 1975, may have been John Vincent, also remember hearing Mighty Joe Drake "Try, Try, Try" (Kapp) around the same time.

Got this in a soul pack years back. Both sides are good. Can't recall if it was in the '70s or '80s, might have been a Soul Bowl pack, they tended to be the most interesting.

Used to be on Steve Vickers lists early / mid 70's.

As already stated, was played early Wigan.

I bought one of a friend a few months ago its a great record needs playing out more

Must have travelled well, I found my copy in a Maltese market sometime during the 1980's

Interesting you should say that about a Maltese Market !!!!!

The reason being that Malta was still a HM Forces posting up until 1979 , I know a couple of my mates big brothers were out there mid 70's and all had been regulars at the Casino. There was quite a few service personnel out there at the time along with their partners, some of whom they'd met and married on the scene. They even had a few soul nights at the various messes and local bars in the area. From speaking to them in later years it became apparent that what with New postings, marriage break up, etc.... a lot of records were dumped at the local markets rather than boxed up and moved on....

I have had a couple of albums over the years from there marked with the HM Forces radio station stamp, my last being the Stateside Lp " An Album Full Of Soul "

I'm playing it out all the time but then who cares, I'm always the bloody warm-up girl    :P  - think i paid 30 for mine

Been featuring this as a reactivation at Lowton. Picked it up a Wigan for about two quid. Will probably put it on the CD for the night on the 8th August

I have it on one of the CD's I play in the car & it came on yesterday.

I'd forgotten how good it was

I don't recall it from Wigan at all, first heard and purchased from 100's Club early/mid 80's.

I bought my copy as a teenager - around 1979 or 1980. Got it out of Rob Smith's shop in Nottingham. I understood back then that it was a well-known oldie that had been a Wigan play.

Cheers

I never heard this played anywhere, ever, in fact I think I first heard it on either a Northern Soul Story LP or a CD.

Great track though.

£30 if anyone wants one.

Great track, always fond of this one and pleased to pick up a nice copy on here last September.

Nice one, it may have come from a soldier then!

My father was stationed over there during the 1950's and married my mother who was a local Maltese girl from Sliema.

I have picked up a few Italian 45's from the Island including a couple by Rocky Roberts  and a nice 1960's garage thumper 45 from a local band that belonged to my mother.

Mine also came from Robs shop around the same time, he told me "this is gonna be big" would have been around the same time, 1979 at a guess,

I think he must have had a lot to shift.
