Belting tune - memories? 

 

Seem to recall reading it was played at Wigan / M's - anyone confirm? Presumably the 7" rather than 12"? Great 12" mix though

Good chance it may have been played at Wigan in the last year or so. It was definately played a lot at Rotheram Clifton Hall but can't remember if it was Searling or another DJ, anyone remember?

No & no, don't think anyone had it at wigan ( can't imagine it getting spun in M's ) & i was sacked from c/h after the 1st night  , it was a big track for me for months as a one off at the small modern nights we we playing, after i found copies it then got plays around the country.

Arthur was spinning this at the legendary Snaith , Turn Ups all niters  , Brum Locarno small room and other fledgling venues around the early 1980 's period.

 

The 12 " become a sought after ' boogie ' tune in recent years - sold my gold label orig 12 " for £100 some years back - the 45 is the one to have like Arthur said ....

just remembered now, Dave removed the info off the label but while on honeymoon in London in 82 i found it on a 12", this had phone no & address so then was able to track it down, amazing this record thing eh! 

Sorry to upset the applecart Guy's but the 12" is far superior. Sounds oh so good played alongside 'You Dazzle Me by Dazzle (Burgess connection). Glyn & Arthur have pretty much hit the nail on the head with the above comments.
Thought the Gold & also the Orange 12" were both original copy's though Glyn.
PS, My 12" used to belong to Adrian Guite who ran Clifton Hall with Steve Croft & some other bloke so it's precious to me.

Mines a 7, and I reciently saw another on ebay...

I played it regularly at (probably every) Clifton Hall, KGB, Cleethorpes after buying it from Arthur. Would have thought a couple of us had it there. A massive record in South Yorkshire at the time.

What value on a 7"? Several copies of both the red and the gold 12" versions currently on discogs etc for under £100 but no 7"

 

Anyone know why two label colours? Both are NIA 1004 and both apparently originals, though presumably one a first pressing

True Martin -  both 12" original copies  - would have thought the 45 is around same price no ???

all my 7's & 12's were red, only got the one 7" left now tho  nothing unusual with 2 or even 3 different colours & almost impossible to say which came first.

The only 45 I could find was on here recently as 'offers'. Can't find the one Mal saw on ebay. Seem to be plenty of 12's around but not many 7's

Actually remember buying this at clifton hall along with larry houston ' lets spend some time together' which had only just been uncovered from what ever it was and was a big record then. To cut a long story short i lost my little blue ticket to the cloke rooms on the floor, some f***** found it stole my bag and the records. Found both titles a few months later, but not great when you only got £42 pound a week as an apprentice!

I know the others were at Clifton before me but I doubt they would have played this particular record any sooner, as I think we all got them from the same source (Arthur) around the same time.

 

I certainly remember hammering it at the KGB and Windmill while it was still very hot and then at Clifton, Cleggy, Bradford etc... soon after

 

It's an interesting point though. The truth is (and I'm not sure it can be said nowadays) quite a few of us would be playing many of the same sounds at the same time.

 

Guess that's how they came to be so massive!

 

And even more interesting to see how there seems to be a 'revived' interest in records from this era, right now.

Hi Arthur, thats funny….I found another 12" NIA record in London in 82….nowhere near as good though. reckon yopu got there before me LOL!

Agree Steve. I'm only half sure and that's cos I'm basing it on the fact that Richard's sets were obviously very similar at both venues.

Richard was playing things like Leon Bryant "Mighty body hotsy totsy" (Delite) at the Casino and that's pretty in yer face too...

i havent cross referenced it yet as a wigan sound (ie a tape with it on - but u never know !)
