Show Us Your Great Photos - Pt2

Following on from the huge success of the "Show us your bird and wildlife photos" thread (some 31 pages and a staggering +1500 posts), I thought it time to start a "part 2".

 

As we don't always have the opportunities to take bird or wildlife photos, but nonetheless might be taking great photos of other things, I  thought a broader approach might encourage even more people to share their top photos. 

 

They can be anything to do with nature, landscapes, outdoors, indoors, superb holiday snaps - basically, whatever. If you think it's a good photo and you want to share it, this is the place.

 

Here's three from me...

I know ... wind was cool first thing, we had three Stonechats showing well today, once the sun came out I was getting problems with heat haze coming up off the dead read beds  :huh:

I haven't, and I even managed to spend a couple of hours stretched out on the sand by the sea today.

Chris. Is that one of the original shimano baitrunners ? If so got to agree mate. Only looking on a kindle when you enlarge the image it goes all blurry and can't make out what it says on side of reel.

Yes mate 4500s,got 5 use them for my piking float rods :)

Chris. I've got two of the original baby ones. I think they're 2500,s or possibly 3500,s they're tucked away on a couple of tip rods I've not used for a few year's, they're loaded with braid, which is not allowed on these commercial fisheries for what ever reason the owner's have decided.

There's been a confirmed sighting of a sand Martin at Elton reservoir over the weekend. Spring is definitely on its way. Sand Martin are the smallest and the first to arrive back from Africa but the 7th March is I believe a new record for the north west

Remember using braid for the first time about twenty years ago when I fished for gaswise Liverpool. The only importer was Scott's of northwich and it was a Dutch sinking braid, it was amazing, the difference in showing up the tiniest of bites off roach compared to normal nylon monofilament.

They could be. Lapwing tend to fly in large flocks at times, might be them

If I told you I’d changed my name to Martin Le-May I’m pretty sure nobody would believe me and I’d be lying if I said I’d taken this outstanding photograph as many will have seen it featured in the national press early last week.

 

It’s not often I gasp when looking at a photograph but this one made do it - out loud as well.

 

I realise I’m bending the rules of this thread somewhat – so how about having a thread on the ‘most amazing photographs you’ve ever seen’ type thing so we can move this magnificent photograph into a more appropriate place.

 Hi Derek, I wouldn't worry too much as other members have posted images that were not their own on this thread.

 

In fact this is the third time this image has been posted on here, Smiffy got in first with post #334  :wink: 

Way past your bedtime Martyn. 12.06am. Nice picture as always mate.

There's daily reports of a red necked grebe from Pennington Flash so will have to nip over and have a look. Hopefully get some pictures.

Cracker mate!Could have beat that Friday with a long tailed tit on one of my fishing rods.

Tried to reach camera but the little fella flew away.

Great shot. Had no idea that Northern Soul hand/arm gestures had become so widespread.  :D   :thumbup:

Here is a colourful one,  a Japanese Green Pheasant ... with a limp, which I am sure he puts on to impress the ladies  :shades:

The weed dance ... a pair of Great Crested Grebes courting.

 

They grab a piece of weed then present it to each other, they all do it when they are pairing up to mate ... what intrigues me is how did they learn to do it ... fascinating thing the natural world.

I'm impressed Martyn. As you know I've fished all my life and been a outdoors person and I have never seen the Great Crested Grebes mating dance ... thanks for posting.

Living around Broadland i have seen it many times but never tire of it,and i know of two broads where parts of the bottom are littered with grebe skeletons.

Have no idea why its a sort of a grebe graveyard.

Not the best of photos but another angler took this shot of me in my boat chinning a jack.

finally getting out  with the camera  Wed and Thurs this week. Hopefully returning with a few Cettis warbler pictures

Same thing going on over here in the Netherlands - unless it's Martyn's pair on a weekend getaway!
