past obscurities re-surfacing interest....

Jimmy Burns vs Brand New Faces ?

how many known copies of each?

whats their value now?

(JB was only a £40 record tops)

Surely the BNF must be up there with the h0LEY-gRAILYS? Is it not, far, far rarer than say,Don Gardner?

Just wondering why the one on ebay is so low... :g:

  • Brand New faces Might be rare and all that, but i think its a pretty dreadful record... Jimmy Burns is great and all that, I still listen to it on i-tunes, but its allot of money for a track thats a p

  • I like BNF. Messy and quirky but it works

  • Quite surprising how much vitriol is being spewed out over Brand New Faces. Great up-and-at-'em piece of girl group soul. Yes, it's messy and chaotic. What do people expect from a Northern tune - a Ba

I used to have this, and got it off Shifty for £750.00, and it really is a hard record to find. Personally i loved it, basic production and a raw gritty sound,  I know iam in a minority here, as the Pinchers used to love telling  me, but its one of my all time favourites and it was a sad day when it was sold.

I have the BNF, perfect record for a club love it, all 3 versions get played at Dig Deeper but that's because we can't help ourselves, predictable seeing the same old folks here saying it's too shouty for their tender ears and old knees, still have a strange memory of seeing Jimmy Burns doing his version live but at such a slow pace it sounded like a country and western song, ah well.

that was when,in the late 80Ts ? :g: (I first heard it on tape mid 80Ts)never saw a copy anywhere and no one even mentioned its existance...and this was in the period when The Cairos was a £1 record....

Yes, and I know the whereabouts of at least 10.

Sometimes i have wonderful dreams where i'm at an infinitely massive record fair and there's boxes of Cairos for £1. And i've got huge dungarees on with giant pockets full of £50 notes.

The fashion crime on-the-spot fine for you wearing dungarees in public exactly equals the imaginary wad of sovs so you'd still not be able to buy any even in your dreams.

Brand new Faces, Stanky.... What next? :glare:

Jimmy Burns re-surfacing, don't know about that but it's certainly one of the "Rarest" of the rare

What Pottsy said...what PhilT said...but I still wouldn't want a copy! Outrush Greeeg used to play it at the CapitolSC and still has a copy. they're out there.

The hokey cokey would sound great over a big sound system...still doesn't wash with me

So if i've got this right, you're not keen on this record Dave.

Oh no ! didn't know Greg has a copy, I was down at Solid Hit Soul last Friday (brilliant night by the way lads) and Greg was guesting there, would have gone up & asked him if he'd play it if I'd known !

Ady, you could have asked Stuart Tyler - he used to play it at Solid Hit Soul when I was part of it, and may still have it.

Ain't that the truth

Remember Sam playing it at the time Jimmy Burns was big for Richard Searling.

Was it justa question of being  played by these DJs because they didn"t  have J Burns ?

Cheers Paul

I friggin love Brand New faces !!! Great gritty street level sound I love to swing my legs to !!! Hmm, just type in Jimmy Burns, Al Williams and you get more sales on ebay/popsike then BNF !!! Add to that manship and private sales/offers .... It doesn't mean much but you just never know how many copies are around for sure !! There are many silent big ticket armchair collectors in the UK  as well as dj's and collectors who like to show off a little !!! Anyway, I love it even if it would cost me a tenner :hatsoff2:

But a save guess would be it's not as rare as Don Gardner ;)

not in Sam's case Paul , Sam played them back to back at the clees dayers circa 78

The harmony ballad side of Brand New Faces is actually pretty good. I think the vocals on the dance side are supposed to be deliberately off-key in order to add to its 'hipness'.
