A new year and a new photo thread to keep us entertained through the months ahead.

My first addition is something suitably seasonal - a wintery scene taken in the Amsterdam woods.

DSC_1212-web.jpg.403007fb2d1c4c9deefe4ade26a6e734.jpg

All contributions very much welcomed, and if the photos we've seen in previous years is anything to go by, we've a lot to look forward to.

Enjoy!

Amazing to think you actually saw it to get the photo! Brilliant

Thanks Andy. After spending most of my life fishing and loving nature,  birds in particular you kind of get a eye or second sense for any sudden movement no matter how small then it's just a case of stopping still and seeing what happens. Thanks again

Been working in Liverpool with the lads, dotted around both sides of the river are ventilation towers for the tunnels under the river, this is the most ornate of them, the King Georges dock vents, in the alcoves on either side of the door where our scaffold wagon is protruding from are these two statues, one represents day and the other night, apparently the tunnels used to be open 24 hours a day, thus day and night.                                                                        WP_20180115_09_31_07_Pro.thumb.jpg.57644932177e6248cc1593473ed9487b.jpgWP_20180115_12_16_32_Pro.thumb.jpg.cfc3cca1161da53f59a6532e14f82cbe.jpgWP_20180115_10_08_19_Pro.thumb.jpg.17a26dcd7f450bdf363b6f1e26dc8b8d.jpg

Ste. I've just been having a closer look at the picture.  I now think its one of  those Ghost Bikes that's from when sadly someone has been killed in a cycling accident and its a memorial to the rider

One from the archives.  Just trying to empty out some drawers and came across this one.  Put a smile on my face.  Taken on the flight deck of the last HMS Bulwark circa 1980/81, after some inter-departmental sport.  All the guys were from my mess, and I'm the one paying attention at front left.  Maybe Joey can tell me what squadron the Sea King in the background is from.....

Yes tour of britain lots of these yellow bikes still on show around the country some near us around the eastwood / underwood area where the tour passed through.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Dylan

I've just seen the later post where it suggests it might be a memorial.

it may have become one at a later date after its initial purpose.  It would make a fitting memorial.

I have seen ghost bikes painted white where a cyclist has been killed.

Dylan. There's plenty of ghost bikes in and around Manchester but I've never seen a yellow one either mate.  . The reason I mentioned it as a ghost bike is the amount of flowers and notes etc posted on the bike plus it's on one of  the quietest lanes that I know of that's well off the beaten track. No where near the tour  passed, it's actually near the  St Helens, Widnes, Warrington border. Hope that helps

I am sure you must be right.  That amount of flowers can sadly only suggest one thing.

Willow Warbler.  So much like a Chiffchaff . The  song is the easy way to tell them apart and luckily for me that's what I heard before I actually saw the bird flitting amongst the branches of a birch tree
